Those days are gone Parri when actors could do any show and make it work (like how Nikki Aneja, Renuka Shahane had so many successful shows on Zee and DD to their credit!). Post 2000, no one really managed to get success in more than one show except Sakshi Tanwar (KGGK) and Ram Kapoor (Kasam se) who are now iconic again in BALH, and Sangeeta Ghosh who had Mehendi Tere Naam Ki and Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, Varun Badola who had Koshish and Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, Ronit Roy managed Mr. Bajaj and Mihir in Kasauti and Kyunki well, but his later serials weren't that successful. Smriti Irani's shows never got any success in any show she did after she left Kyunki... even though her Virrudh was a good concept. Nobody really gets same kind of success nowadays.

Yeh "true test" sab ke bas ki baat nahi. Talented, trained actors who held shows on their shoulders all alone, couldn't repeat success.

I applaud actors like Pooja Gor for staying loyal to the shows that made them. I wish good luck to Prats and hope she also joins league of those who could succeed in other shows they attempted. Time will tell. But honestly, such a fracas is a loss both to actors and the show. Let them all fight in their ego clashes. Viewers will either stay addicted to an old favourite or watch a new serial. There's no dearth of channels, serials or actors!

@ pari - Thats a false news again. Prats was chosen in a nationwide poll with 2 other actors who were shortlisted and Toral was not in the scene then. She was acting in another serial.

This is the issue I also have with PH. Pratyusha has not given a single statement defaming or condemning the PH like Gia Manek did - but they are going on and on about Prats, about how Toral is a FANTASTIC replacement.

I think that the Production house is getting jittery and hiring useless PR persons who are doing a lousy job :) Better PR strategy could have worked mildly in their favour..but what they are doing currently sucks.

Sorry in advance if I sound harsh here. But here again this is second hand news, and how reliable is it. Whether its a PR spin or not is not important. Whether Prats has been defamed Or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that poor Toral is the innocent party here. Unless I have missed another infamous article quoting her defaming Prats. I want to hasten to add that I am not a fan of Toral nor a fan of Prats. All this fervor and passion for speculated, apparent wrong that has been done to the 'golden goose' just seems so futile of your good time and energy. Let's get passionate about the plight of females in India. Let's promote Farhan Akhtars MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination) campaign. Let's just leave BV where it belongs, for pure escapism and derive a social message where possible.

Toral is not a "perfect" replacement to be precise, as media is touting it to be. And it's all too sudden plus at a really wrong juncture. Bound to create backlash or elicit mixed reactions.

I liked Toral a lot in social reformer mode. But if it's about AnSh scenes alone then it is indeed hard to accept the change.

CVs look confused. They should've kept the show focused on issues then. Instead of creating AnSh chemistry and giving their scenes! I didn't expect such shabby management from BV team at least. I blame them the most before any actor. (BTW, Toral bashing is not justified! She's got nothing to do with it! Woh aise hi gaaliyan khaa rahi hai!)

No Pari. You dont sound harsh. I also dont intend to sound harsh..but here goes.

Your argument is the typical Genocide in Darfur argument. There will always be better things to talk about, better issues to deal with and bigger problems in life than the one am facing right now..but that does not mean I should consider the problem in hand trivial because it is important to me.( by ME I mean many of us out there)

If we can spend 2 hrs a day discussing a BV episode..then we have every right to voice our displeasure and hurt with the replacement who we think is not able to comprehend the character well.

As for Toral, I have nothing against the girl. She knows what she was getting to and I am sure she is prepared for this backlash. Goes with the territory. That said, the girl is a BAD Anandi. She just does not get it.

Skelpbun - Well said. I share your sentiments exactly.

Management/CVs/PR - Everyone is worried and are doing a hurried oathetic job here in handling everything. The dialogues given to Toral seem so not Anandi.

@ bold Agree whole heartedly.

@ red, same thing applies to Pratyusha. If consensus cannot be reached with PH, letting go is part of the territory for both PH and Prats. She should have been prepared for that outcome. Her gamble probably did not pay out. Now if her fans expect Toral to boldly take the harsh reactions as part and parcel of the business, then they should be able to handle Pratyusha's situation in the same light. These things happen, not always, but they do. And everything can't always be tied up neatly with a bow.

@Parri

I just have to agree with you here! I am amazed how people show some much fervour, team spirit, zeal and passion for a TV actor (film actors) and fictional characters, finding out details to contact channels, CVs etc., getting together on every platform available online and "fight" for the supposed "right" of an actor/character. Here we have even an activist and intellectual like Madhu Kishwar ranting daily on Twitter (frankly it seemed silly, trivial of a personality like her to rant daily about a serial on a public platform!) on the new Anandi!

Is it a joke or what? It takes a super gruesome incident like Delhi gangrape for people to awaken to do something against rape and do something for women (though rape happens every 26 minutes in India!). But a filmi or TV actor or a fictional character is more important? So important so to keep debating, dissecting, ranting, raising voice and "fighting" to this extent?

Like you, even I find myself questioning myself many times why the hell do I even spend time writing on a serial or discussing fictional characters? Thanks to publicity and propaganda some of us end up giving too much of our mindspace to things which actually do not matter, instead of devoting time or mindspace to things which actually matter! 😕

I wasn't a participant at IPKKND or Geet forums but what fanatics did when these shows closed down or when lead was replaced or even took a leave was too much. I am NOT being judgemental on their actions. But it does make me wonder where we direct our energy and passion? Many real problems (even in our personal lives) could use this level of passion and zeal and make things better in reality.

Must say Parri, you have made thoughtful points in your posts in this discussion. Your words made me think and introspect myself too. Thanks for a civil discussion.

Hey Lavy and Skepblun,

I do not mean to sound preachy or anything and I am a little late coming to this whole discussion. I will also not deny, I love escapist tv. But I love it just for that reason and nothing more. Maybe it's because my life is immersed in the medical needs of my little one or maybe it's because I now understand, a little, what really matters in life. Whatever the reason, I also acknowledge that everyone is passionate about different things, the key is to not lose perspective or yourself. I've really enjoyed our little repartee. 😊

Such a pleasure, having a sensible discussion without fear of being misunderstood.
