When ds asked shiv to marry anandi he simply say yes. That means he wants just like arrange marriage ignoring her past. He wants acceptance from anandi just like in arrange marriage procedure. But she said no whatever the reason. If now she agree then any respectable person like to know cause behind it. And it is completely wrong to marry someone on behalf of fulfilling last wish of wrong person(bhago). Yes shiv should say u no need to fulfill last wish of ur mother as u always is a great daughter, always do what her mother said, neither question her mother, nor blame her mother for her life.
After all one can live whole life without marriage.

After watching today's epi I think self-respect is the last thing on Shiv's mind when/if he refuses Anandi marrying him to fulfil her mother's wishes. The only thing he wants is her happiness.He doesnt want her to marry him because she is pressurised but only if she wants to.

This is what true love is.. putting that person's happiness ahead of your own /thinking about that other person before you think of yourself.

Lvd shiv even more he z rite anandi should marry him only if she feels he z a rite guy with whom she can spend rest of his life...mohbbat pane ka nasm nahi..when u r in luv u want happiness of partner in every respect...it can b his respect n his deeper luv for her. ..

when I said "self-respect", I did not mean that in an arrogant egotistical sense of false pride -- like "who does she think i am? how dare she agree to marry me because of her mother's promise?"

I meant it in exactly the sense that you are saying ...

a lesser man would only have thought of self-gratification and would have used the mother's promise to his advantage and exploited the situation thinking "good, good, I now have an easy in with anandi"

but he didnt do that ... to show concern about someone else's happiness is a very high form of self-respect ... meaning that he would not be able to chase his own happiness at the cost of anandi's unhappiness.

Believe me, lots of people would not have had that integrity.
