I say self-respect because a lesser man would have used the mother's death wish to his advantage, particularly since he is in love with her... but shiv isn't resorting to underhanded techniques or manipulation... he has a great deal of integrity, so he wants things to be done the right way for the right reasons...

I also think it shows shiv's confidence in wooing anandi the right way ... he doesnt have to resort to tactics like emotional blackmail, meaning he is not thinking that there is no other way to get anandi to agree, so let me resort to this way of putting pressure on her to agree...

I dont think many people in shiv's position would have given up the opportunity to marry anandi anyhow and in any way, particularly if it looked like she was cold and not warming up... but shiv has taken a stand -- and to me that shows integrity which is another form of self-respect.

The point I'm trying to make is that there is a right way to doing everything, which may take a little longer or which may not lead to any results at all...

and there is a wrong way to doing everything, which may be a shortcut, and will yield quick results...

shiv, given that he is in love with anandi, could have used the shortcut way, and used anandi's mothers promise as an easy way to marry her ... but he didnt... he decided to take the long way and wait it out till she falls in love with him...

that is why i say self-respect.

He is not an insecure man. He is quite confident and knows that he is not wrong. Here is a man who is done right probably all his life and that is the reason he did not take a shortcut... He deserves respect from Anandi which she will give eventually and then marriage.

yes exactly... and nobody with self respect would ever feel good about themselves if they found that they did not earn the thing... but that it was given to them because someone decided to lower the bar... it is exactly the same way jagat felt when he learned he was given the job at sng through gauri's sifarish...

shiv is a man who has earned things in life through hard work -- whether it is his degrees or his job or other matters -- so why should he be the husband of someone who does not herself think it is an honour to be his wife but rather does so out of a feeling of resigned resentment as a promise to someone else?

He gives Anandi the space she needs and decides to wait till she herself falls for him ,instead of hurrying up and making use of the situation! This shows his high levels of integrity and maturity . So Anandi has got another reason to fall in love with him!

shiv is so different from the stereotypical tv hero. so diff from the arrogant tycoon who marries for convenience;the goon who forces himelf on poor girl. there is not one serial hero like shiv. educated, cultured, gender-sensitive and drop-dead handsome to boot. he stands out👏
