A long time ago, there was an interview with anjum farooqi, who said that when the role of gauri was offered to her, it was not given as a long time role, but just a few episodes (I think she said 26) ... and the purpose of this was just to incite jagya against anandi ...gauri was only hired to be the 'comparison factor'...where J would start comparing anandi less favourably and generate friction... the marriage of J-G was not planned. However, as the storyline progressed she was given more and more episodes and signed on for additional contracts and is stil on in balika vadhu.
Sometimes I think they hire new characters and watch for awhile as to how the chemistry and ratings shape up... and so they only offer characters cameos before deciding whether indeed to make them second leads or not.
I dont think siddharth shukla is playing a cameo, but I think he, like anjum may have been offered a limited number of episodes in his first contract. So obviously, at this point he cant proclaim himself to be anandi's beendh and a long-term player perhaps. He is careful and measured in talking.
Somehow, I feel that while there will be a beautiful love story between shiv and anandi, it may not lead to fruition in terms of marriage because I think the story of anandi is that she is to rise to heights in politics ... and eventually become the chief minister of rajasthan. I dont think her story is to become a beendhni once again ... and while shivraj shekhar is a modern man with a progressive outlook who would help her in her achievements rather than hindering them, I think there are certain issues that crop up naturally when one has small children etc. and elderly inlaws that may prevent anandi from reaching her political heights (which she is supposed to)... so like they killed off pratap ... they may do something to shiv.
I believe his purpose is to re-assure her of her femininity, and of her worth and to shower her with attention all of which has taken a beating with jagya's constant abuse.

@Tinoo - that's depressing, but somehow I can see that - Shiv getting killed...it spurring Anandi to even greater heights. I hope not though. It would be great to see a strong female protagonist with a man worthy of her in her life not behind her, but gracefully beside her. If men can rise to great heights without sacrificing parents/children then why can't women? Is it that impossible? I haven't achieved it, but I think the flaw is mine not the world's

@Blue - It may not be Jaggu... it could be Anandi standing on her own.

seriously anjana, i missed lot of tracks of BV and I again started watching this serial only because of shiv. I really don't know what he meant by " his role is expected to be a cameo " . As he said in some TV segment, its confusion confusion evreywhere.

sure women can achieve it if they have an avid support system. Traditionally women have been caregivers and there are certain biological factors that require them to be the ones to take leave after their children are born.
It depends on what shivraj feels at that time, whether his modern and progressive views will stand the test in his own personal life and let anandi climb up or whether he will be like another jagya who talks about gender equality and admires working women but does not really want to deal with the negatives of having a working woman as his own wife; whether sumitra and bhairon will babysit anandi's children when she has a heavy travel schedule, etc. etc. πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†; and what turn shivraj's own career will take ... he wont remain the collector forever, he also will get promotions and have additional responsibilities -- would he be willing to take time off from his career to change diapers? πŸ˜† ...
But there are career couples in India who have managed to be very mutually supportive of each other...and the women have risen to great heights.
