Well , she is the family matriarch , a doting mother [ to Basant atleast] and a all-sugar-and-sweet grandmom to Jaggu...but then she's rather strict as a mother-in-law and a grandmother-in-law...
Well , before I embark on my flight of discussion on Dadi-saa , one thing in general about her character that struck me : she isnt ACTUALLY EVIL....evil as in all the serpentine bindi-wearing , backless blouses-wearing devranis and jhetanis and bhabhis is most saas-bahu serials....she isnt bad at heart actually....her actions are only a result of her way of thinking , she's conservative and orthodox and believes in what the age-old customs say , just like all grandmothers in educationally backward areas.
What I mean is : she will not allow Anandi to go to school , for that did not happen in her time ; didnt want JaAn to stay in diff. rooms in the beginning - again an indicator of her old-fashioned mindset... she had been a bahu since 6 years old , and from 6 years she was keeping a teej vrat and cooking and everything , so she expects Anandi to do the same...her behaviour is also a result of her life's experiences , she treats Anandi the way she was treated in her own childhood....
Dadi-saa is not negative , but the character is VERY real...she's a nagging , rather domineering lady , and goodness knows how many times I've seen grandmoms like that...dotes on Jaggu as he's a boy , and desire for sons in prevalent ...even now [damn]
