Zain Khan
(Hari Puttar) Percentage: 83% ICSE,
Avika Gor
Mumbai

Zain Khan: "I was very confident that I would score at least 75 per cent, but didn't expect 83 per cent. I did a last moment revision and I'm glad that my hard work paid off. I started studying only three months before the exams, but then I would stay up all night, as I would be busy with other activities during the daytime. I'll soon be hosting a party for all my friends. It's a double celebration for me as I fared well in my exams and my new movie Detective Naani has also gotten released."

Zaki Khan, Zain's father: "I never expected him to do so well. I was surprised when I saw his results on the net. He would forever tell me, 'Daddy, ho jaayega... aap chinta mat karo.' And he has proved himself. I have always supported him in whatever he chooses to do, be it his decision to join acting or take up motorcycle racing. I'm confident that he will be successful in whatever he decides to do in the future."

Tanay Chheda
(Slumdog Millionaire, Taare Zameen Par) Percentage: 80% Promoted to Class VIII

Tanay Chheda: "Even if I'm shooting, I don't forget my school. On days when I miss my lessons, I try and stay back after school to catch up on all that I've missed. Sometimes, the teachers take special classes. My studies continue to remain unaffected despite my hectic schedule."
Tejal Chheda, Tanay's mother: "Tanay never neglects his studies. He is very sincere and studies regularly. Whenever he takes off for a 8-10 day shoot, he always carries his schoolbooks along with him. And he takes out time in between shoots to finish his homework."

Swini Khara
(Cheeni Kum) Percentage: 96.8% Promoted to Class VI

Shilpa Khara, Swini's mother: "I'm very impressed by the way in which my daughter has managed to strike a balance between school and her career. She is excellent in her studies and for the last five years, she has won the best student award. Whenever she is out on a film shoot, she never forgets to carry her books along. At the moment, she's holidaying in Switzerland and will be back next month. She has three movies slated for release this year."

Sreeparana Ghosal
(Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?) Percentage: 87% Promoted to Class VII

Sreeparana Ghosal: "Education is very important in life. No matter how successful or famous one might be, one has to be educated. While shooting for Paanchvi Paas I had to miss school, but nevertheless I would carry my textbooks to the shoot and study in between shots. The show has also helped me learn many new things. I think there should be more such educational shows on television."

Debashish Ghosal, Sreeparana's dad: "My daughter has been very sincere about her studies. We never had to force her to sit down to study. She was in Class V when she was doing the show, but even then she never ignored her studies. We are proud of our daughter. Sreeparana is very close to her elder sister Rituparna, who has given her Class X exams this year. Sreeparana is very excited about her sister's results."

Avika Gor
(Balika Vadhu)
Percentage: 60%
Promoted to
Class VII

Sameer Gor, Avika's father: "We are happy with her performance and hope that she continues to do well. Avika is busy with her shoots and is not presently in Mumbai."

Parzan Dastur
(Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Sikander)
HSC, HR College, Mumbai
Awaiting his results
Parzan Dastur: "I'm anxiously waiting for my results. I'm confident that I shall score around 80 per cent. After Class XII, I intend to take up management. This year, there wasn't much pressure, so I could concentrate on my studies. Right now, I'm not doing any movies and am taking it very easy. I'm in no rush to sign anything now, I want to concentrate on my career. My parents have been very supportive throughout. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to do what I've done so far."

Talented and young actor Vikrant Massey from Balika Vadhu speaks about his love for gizmos
Vikrant Massey

Q. Do you like gizmos?
A. I am a major gizmo freak.

Q. What gadgets do you possess?
A. I have an I-pod. I have an Apple Mac book laptop and want to buy a Mac book Pro but it's very expensive. I have a Sony PS3, PS2, a PSP, and a portable DVD player which I carry with me whenever I travel so that I can watch films. I also want an i-phone.

Q. Which is your latest priced possession?
A. PS3.

Q. Do you think gadgets have made our lives simpler?
A. They have made our lives a lot simpler but also very complicated at the same time.

Q. Which is the one discovery (in gadgets) without which you think life would have been impossible?
A. I think its GPS unit (Global Positioning System) without it not only a common man's life would have been impossible but also the same goes with army, navy and the air force.

Q. Where do you access your email — on phone or on the laptop?
A. On laptops and very rarely on phones.

Q. How important is it to be techno savvy in today's world?
A. I don't think it's very important to be techno savvy. I don't think if you are not techno savvy you are laidback. I don't believe in that concept. It is possible that a common man who does not know how to use a laptop but still he can get his things done. It is good if you are educated in terms of technology.

Q. There are a lot of complicated gadgets, and they are expensive too. What do you have to say about them?
A. Nothing. I don't have to say anything about it, they are expensive then reduce the price, if it's complicated then make it simpler and if it's too complicated then I don't care.

Q. Do you think the whopping prize tags are justified?
A. Keeping the common man in mind, I think the price tag for necessities should come down, where as in terms of luxuries the higher class can afford it.

Q. Gadgets have made us completely dependent on them, don't you think?
A. That is very true, we do tend to forget at times that we are the ones who have made those gadgets. They have made us mentally lazy, we can just surf to know a lot of things about the world. I believe a lot of field work and activity should be involved in everyone's life.

Q. Where do you usually buy your gadgets and gizmos from?
A. I go to Croma.

No generation leap for 'Balika Vadhu'

26 May 2009, 1206 hrs IST, Subhash K Jha

While some TV shows get ready for a generation leap, others remain
Avinash Mukherjee and Avika Gor in 'Balika Vadhu'

unchanged

Now that the IPL has concluded, child lead actors in the primetime shows, Uttaran and Jai Shri Krishna are all set to take a generation leap. However, those who cant get enough of Anandi and Jagdishs childish banter in the popular show Balika Vadhu, which is telecast on the same channel, have a reason to smile as the kids arent ready to grow up yet. Even though the focus of the show has lately shifted to the adult actors, actors Avika Gor and Avinash Mukherjee, who play the young couple Anandi and Jagdish respectively, will grow up gradually in Balika Vadhu. Talking about the change in the plot, Rajesh Kamat, CEO of the channel, said, The reason why we werent showing much of Anandi and Jadgish was because both the actors were busy taking their exams . It would have been ironic if after addressing child literacy so forcefully in the serial, our own lead actors didnt get time off for their studies. Now that the exams are over, Avika and Avinash will be back in full force.

Meanwhile, the child actors from Uttaran, Sparsh Khanchandani aka Ichcha and Ishita Panchal aka Tapasya, and Krishna Bhatia aka little Krishna of Jai Shri Krishna are about to exit from their respective shows due to the time leap. Explaining the reason behind the decision, Kamat said, There are too many imitations of what you call the juvenile formula. We feel confident enough now to let our two popular serials take a generation leap without affecting their popularity. As for Balika Vadhu, Kamath envisages no generation leap. In fact it would be interesting to see the two actors grow up as the serial progresses, he said.

Vikrant loves his toys

Every boy loves their toy and Vikrant Massey is no exception. He has stacked up all the latest gadgets that keep him company every time he needs to be entertained.

Ask him about his gadgets and he says, "I have an I-pod. I have an Apple Mac book laptop and want to buy a Mac book Pro but it's very expensive. I have a Sony PS3, PS2, a PSP, and a portable DVD player which I carry with me whenever I travel so that I can watch films. I also want an I-phone."

However he does agree on creating a balance. "They have made us mentally lazy, we can just surf to know a lot of things about the world. I believe a lot of field work and activity should be involved in everyone's life," he adds.

We sure do hope his gizmos don't make him a couch potato!

The characters of Balika Vadhu have found a new way to have fun during the
A still from Balika Vadhu
shoots.

The most common thing we hear is that the actors prefer resting during their break but over here the young and vibrant actors like Avika Gor, Avinash Mukherjee and Vikrant Massey are known to play cricket in their make-up room. When we contacted Vikrant, he confirmed saying, "Yes, we do play cricket. In fact, we even play it in the make-up room. It's really fun being with these kids. I remember my childhood when I am with them. It's a good way of relaxing."

On working with veteran actors Surekha Sikri and Farida Jalal, he said, "It's a good experience working with them. I am able to learn a lot."
