Dwelling on the Details: If Only...

[Episode 91] June 20th, 2016

- "Aapse toh kuch nahi hota!" "Kuch hota nahi ka kya matlab hai, haan? Tum kehna chahti ho mujhe kiss karna nahi aata?" "Mujhe kya pata?" "Mujhe kiss karna aata hai!" "Mujhe kaise pata?" "Mujhe tumhe prove karne ki koi zaroorat hai nahi!" This goes on for a while. Rajni keeps deflecting Shaan's claims with her own style of sarcasm until Shaan decides that he does have something to prove to Rajni, after all. He jumps off the parapet, tosses his apple off the balcony with a flourish, grabs Rajni, and kisses her fiercely. That look he gives her when he finally pulls back - he has proved his point! Or has he? Rajni licks the corners of her lips - which made my jaw drop in shock - and concludes that she has no way to tell if Shaan is a good kisser or not! But she does know that there were absolutely no feelings in that kiss of his. How does she know this? I want to know how she can sense this! "Aap isse behtar kar sakte hai, Shaan." Amazing. Rajni is amazing!

- "Nahi kar sakta, yaar, main isse better! Nahi aata mujhe doosron ki tarah pyaar dikhaana ya feelings dikhaana...Nahi hota mujhse! Main - mujhme yeh feature nahi hai! OK?" "Lekin aap toh robot nahi hai." Shaan begins to let out his frustration and I thought it was neat how he uses Rajni's catchphrase to drive his point home to her. Rajni's innocent observation, which she says so sweetly, like a child, is what causes Shaan to launch into a self-critical rant. He lists out his shortcomings - I love every single second of this monologue of his. He implies that his peers and work colleagues and the world at large don't understand him, they don't know of his potential and his worth. He explains that he doesn't know how to maintain relationships because he can't express his feelings to others, especially to those he loves...He even brings up the topic of his marriage, recounting how he expected to avoid the complications of dealing with his wife's criticisms and emotions...and how he ended up falling prey to the exact things he wanted to get away from. Rajni listens to Shaan intently, her expression a mixture of concentration and curiosity. My heart went out to Shaan today. I feel like there's so much that he yearns for - validation, appreciation, affection, support, love - but he seems to primarily hold himself accountable for the lack of those things in his life. He does have shortcomings, like all of us do...and so I feel terrible when he is so harsh on himself. I really hope he is able to gradually become more sociable, more charming, and more confident in himself as a whole, not just as a scientist whose only constant in life is his passion for his work. Karan was so, so good in this scene! His ability to reel off long monologues like this one in such a natural, conversational manner never ceases to impress me!

- "Phir tum mujhe pehchaanogi nahi - kyunki tumhare data mein toh Shaan rahega hi nahi! Phir se incomplete! Phir se akela! Akela is best! Shaan is meant to be akela!" THIS. This broke my heart into pieces. It has been implied that Shaan has always been a solitary soul, someone who has very, very few friends and maintains his distance from emotional attachments. I think Dev is the only true friend Shaan has and knows he can depend on...and Samaira was probably the only woman Shaan gave his heart to...until Rajni was created. In a way, Shaan's nature might have facilitated the forging of this extremely deep bond between him and his robot, since he worked on her for so long and cared about nothing else, not even his personal life. Rajni became the center of his life. He married her. And she does complete him. She balances him out, steadies him, supports him, and keeps him grounded. Isn't that what everyone hopes for in their spouse? Shaan has, consciously or unconsciously, given Rajni a place in his heart. She is the second person (or is she really the first?) with whom Shaan has sustained a long-term relationship...And he admits that HE will be left incomplete when she leaves him forever. He will be alone again. Just like before. Just like he was always meant to be... 💔

- Rajni thinks about everything that Shaan has done for her...He made her, he keeps improving her as much as he can...She says that he made her perfect. And now she wants to make him perfect. She wants to make him stronger by helping him overcome his fears and insecurities. Just like he improves her features, she will boost his self-esteem. And there's the balance. Reciprocity.

- Mission #1. "Oh, filmi robot!" "Oh! Aap kab aaye? *Shaan just looks at Rajni with his eyebrows raised, silently questioning* Shaan. Baahar ka mausam kitna awesome hai! Chalo! Garden area mein ghoom kar aate hai!" "Mausam enjoy karna hai tumhe?" LOL, this entire deal with the (not hired) gunde and Shaan mistaking them for Matthew's men before finally trying to fight them off is so funny! Shaan reacts exactly as I would, haha. He tries to run away first, hiding behind trees, only using physical violence as an absolute last resort. I love how Rajni trails behind and keeps count of how many guys Shaan has driven into the dust, LOL! Also, her kicking and giving the ruffians an electric shock for hurting Shaan - that was great! I liked how she was ultimately able to boost Shaan's self-confidence in the end...And that brief moment where she expressed concern for his safety and hoped that he wouldn't be hurt too badly was quite sweet as well.

- Mission #2. "Pahad se koodne ko bol dogi toh?" "Kya aapko lagta hai ki main aapko aisa karne ke liye kahoongi?" Shaan doesn't think so. He's in for a shock when he discovers where Rajni has brought him - they're up high in the mountains, at a ziplining place. As expected, Shaan freaks out. I was surprised he didn't go into cardiac arrest on the spot! He does try to run away, though, and I was scared he'd fall and get seriously injured in the process. "Nahi karoonga, nahi karoonga, nahi karoonga!" Shaan is totally, totally me. Except I don't have a robot who threatens to self-destruct when I don't live up to a promise. Shaan does. "Maine aapke liye itna kuch kiya. Aap mere liye itna nahi kar sakte?" Emotional blackmail from the most adorable robot in the universe. "Nahi karoonga main!" Shaan begins heading down the stairs, limbs flailing. Rajni begins a countdown, positioning her arms and legs over the stair railing. Panicking, Shaan rushes to pull her back. He'll zip across the sky on a wire for her, even though he's terrified and feels like he's going to die. He won't let her destroy herself because of his fears.

- "Kar liya, kar liya! I'M SO PROUD OF ME!" Awww, Shaan! I wanted to give him a hug because he's SO cute, all full of childlike elation and euphoria! "RAJNI!" He yells at the top of his lungs to the one who pushed him to conquer his fear of heights, encouraging her to come over to him, too. "Aapne kar dikhaaya. I am so proud of you!" "I am also so proud of me!" In the middle of all this, Shaan remembers one thing. "Aur tumne jo self-destruct waali dhamki mujhe di - smart move, haan! Tumhe pata hai main tumhe kabhi self-destruct hone nahi deta!" He narrows his eyes at her and nods. "Mujhe pata hai, Shaan. Lekin shayad aap bhool rahe hai...Aapne mujhme self-destruction ka feature daala hi nahi hai." Aha. She has learned to evade the truth and tell little lies for his benefit. And that has served them both well in this circumstance. But I have to admit, that took me by surprise and I hope it doesn't have any bad repercussions later...

- The final shot of the two of them standing on that platform together is really sweet! I love the way Shaan bumps his helmet against Rajni's. All smiles, these two! Shaan's spontaneous, "I love you, Rajni!" and the mirrored blink-blink-blink that they do as they beam at each other after that...They are so very precious!

Meanwhile at the Kant residence...

- Dev the Great Bangdu is starving and Aishwarya won't give him the time of day. She won't give him any food, either. So glad to see her again! It's no secret that I find Dev/Aishwarya moments to be massively entertaining - and adding Shogata to the frame makes it even better now! LOL at how everyone refers to Dev as a bhukkad! Even he himself does, albeit accidentally! "Iss bhukkad ki - matlab - bhooke ki haai lagegi tum logon ko!" "Tumhari 'hi'...toh Shogata ki 'bye!'" And Shogata has the last word again! She's really a fan of playing with words, isn't she? I like that! Now if only she could gradually stop talking in third person...

- "Kya bure din aa gaye, Dev! Iske room mein rehna padega mujhe! Kya hoga mera?" Ahaha, poor guy! But he liked this room the last time I checked! LOL! Dev continues stuffing his endless supply of plaid shirts into Shogata's wardrobe, grumbling to himself, and comes to a halt when a bunch of photos fall out and land at his feet. "Yeh kya hai? What is this?" Ahaha, I love the way he goes, "What eez theees?" Such a lovable goof, this guy. He stares at the pictures and then begins laughing. Ahh, one of Shogata's well-kept secrets just fell into Dev's hands! "WTH!" Shogata walks in on Dev, who regains composure enough to recline on her bed as if he belongs there. So relaxed! "Tumne pehle kabhi bataaya nahi...? *Shogata scrunches up her face inquisitively* Ki tum itni khoobsurat dikhti thi?" That high-pitched gasp of horror is the best, ahaha! "No no no no, please, please, please!" Dev is momentarily stunned. "Kya kaha? Phir se kaho!" "...Pleaaase?" Awww, Shogu! Her voice is so sweet! This is apparently not something Shogata says often, if at all. And she's saying it to Dev Bangdu, of all people! Mark the date! Dev resorts to blackmail for food, basically. Desperate times call for desperate measures? But Dev...Shogu doesn't know how to cook. She'll poison you, dude.

- Shogata definitely knows how to get her way. She knows exactly which buttons to press in order to get Dev to do what she wants. She appeals to his ego, using an offhand comment about him being a mard, which makes me wonder if everyone in Dev's life has underestimated him and view him as a child still...She very cleverly maneuvers out of her sticky situation by suggesting that he should show her how he makes his favorite food so that she can learn from him. And it works. Dev cooks up a storm in less than an hour and he's very proud of himself! Shogata also looks impressed...impressed with how easily Dev was fooled into doing exactly what she wanted him to do! "What an idiot..." It takes Dev a little while before he figures out what Shogu is looking so smug about - and she still plays innocent, haha. I love her expressions and voice in this scene!

- Dev may have been tricked into cooking everything, but he ensures that Shogata serves him at the table. So she's in the middle of unhappily serving him food when Aishwarya, Surili, and Maggie come across them in the dining room. LOL at the way Shogata pulls her hand away from the bowl and tries to lie through her teeth about the whole thing! Maggie's commentary continues, yay! "Yeh toh pehli rasoi waali rasam ho gayi!" Shogata and Dev are both like, "What?! No!"

- "Shogu?! Yeh hum kya dekh rahe hai?" "...Mom!" Surili's reaction amused me most because she looks so shocked at the sudden change in her daughter's behavior. She's seen these two growing up, constantly at odds with each other...But now her daughter is giving Dev "Bhukkad" Bangdu food?! "Tum kyun usse tease kar rahi ho? Bhookon ko khana khilaana punya ka kaam hota hai, Mom. Main...punya kamaa rahi hoon!" Surili has no clue what has happened to her daughter, LOL!

- A few more random things I liked about this scene. Dev and Aishwarya, trading insults and brandishing cutlery at each other - comedy gold, those two! I love Shogata's awkwardly adorable facial expressions, and I think I love the way Dev says, "Shogu..." already! Poor Shogu's frantic attempts to stay put at the dining table so that Dev won't pull the rug out from under her feet, haha! "Shogata has to stay here, Mom! I have to stay!" There's also that hilarious moment where Shogu accidentally elbows Dev, who ends up face-down in a bowl of something he was about to eat. She's being pulled away from him, but she has the grace to call out and apologize to him. "Shogata ne jaan bujhke nahi kiya!"

[Episode 92] June 21st, 2016

- I honestly don't think Karan and Ridhima have ever looked better in this show than they do in this episode. So far, that is. Rajni is the epitome of elegance in her light blue gown. It is simple, classy, and enhances her beauty further. The real surprise is Shaan. He steps out in a tuxedo...and the camera shows us what Rajni sees. He holds his arms up in a "What do you think?" gesture. She looks him over, bottom to top...Her gaze lands on his face and he raises his eyebrows at her with a smile, still awaiting her answer. "You're looking handsome, Shaan!" "Haina?" He looks good - and he knows it! *sigh* He looks dapper, suave...So so good! And his hair! I really wouldn't mind seeing Shaan's hair like this more often!

- "Humans bahut rigid hote hai. Woh change ko bahut strongly resist karte hai. It's not that easy. We are complicated." They say that change is the only constant in life...and yet, it is in human nature to resist change until forced to adapt. I like these little lines that come up every so often that point out things about humanity, social norms, interpersonal relationships, and philosophy, even. So much of this is what we take for granted or are conditioned to do - hearing those things from Rajni or Shaan or any other character in this show often makes me pause and reflect on those points after watching an episode. It's nice to have a show that is lighthearted yet serious enough to make me think deeply about life. That's why I like science fiction as a genre. It presents potential realities in a way that also provides a commentary on the human condition.

- Saawali Si Raat. What a beautiful, beautiful song choice for this sequence! "Bin kahe, bin sune, baat ho teri meri..." In silence, Rajni takes Shaan's hands and places them where they need to be, one hand in hers, the other on her waist. She tilts his chin up...and then she begins to lead him in a waltz. There is a softness to Shaan and Rajni's movements and expressions as they move together, perfectly enhanced by the soothing, lilting melody. They share smiles as they dance, in a moment where only the two of them coexist as two parts of a whole. I love that they are so different - she is confident and encouraging, moving stiffly but gracefully, somehow; he is awkward and unsure of himself, but begins to enjoy himself and dance more freely as he follows her lead...And yet, in spite of their differences, they fit. They mirror each other. They are reflections of each other. Rajni reflects the inherent goodness and purity and potential that Shaan instilled in her and also has within himself...And Shaan is very slowly but surely changing because of her.

- Shaan is a bit tipsy. Maybe more than a bit. But he's still quite lucid even though his inhibitions have dropped a fair amount. "Na mat bolna!" Why does he think that Rajni will criticize him? Is it because he is so used to being seen as a failure by everyone in his life? It's so sad that his self-esteem is so low. I want him to be vindicated as much as Rajni does. But that would mean he'd have to show everyone what he is capable of creating, for one...And that is the ultimate problem here. How is he going to tell the truth and let Rajni go?

- "Humans ko ek doosre ko bataana padta hai ki woh ek doosre se kitna pyaar karte hai." "Why?" "Aap human hai. Robot nahi. Humans ko apni feeling aksar jataani padti hai...Taaki sab unpar bharosa kar sake." Ah, I love the music that begins to play when Shaan asks her, "Why?" She has a point. A very good one. If a person is silent, there's no easy way to tell what is on his mind. Shaan is generally not expressive when it comes to sentiment. He uses sarcasm as a way to deal with his family and friends. I actually can't think of a time when Shaan spoke to anyone other than Rajni in a genuinely sincere tone. He lets some of his deepest feelings out when he speaks to Rajni because she listens, but he's still guarded, even with her. Rajni gently urges Shaan to call his parents and express his love for his family...So he does. Shaan's phone call made me so emotional! I fell in love with his sincerity while watching him put his feelings into words. Amrish/Surili's reactions also made me emotional...But I was most struck by Shogata's reactions. She listens to her brother with an expression that changes from initial surprise to intense concentration. She seems so caught up in what he's saying...but then when the phone disconnects, she rolls her eyes. "Saaf saaf sunaayi de raha tha ki woh drunk tha!" Amrish counters her, saying that feelings come to the fore more easily when someone is drunk. Shogu can't argue with that. What is it with these two siblings? I'm so interested in their relationship and these little scenes just serve to increase my curiosity.

- Shaan and Rajni by the poolside. One of the loveliest scenes in the show for many, many reasons! It is a beautifully-written conversation, which makes it an instant favorite of mine. The cinematography is stunning (the water and light reflecting on their faces!) and the direction captures all of the nuances that Karan and Ridhima display so naturally. I would write out every line of dialogue and the accompanying nuances if I could - it is THAT lovely! "Bhagwaan aisa robot har kisi ko de. Aur mujhe kisi ki koi parwaah nahi! I am very, very proud of you!" Shaan expresses how proud he is of Rajni regularly now, but this one is mellower and he places more emphasis on his words. It means a lot that he's saying this. "Rajni, tum kitni achhi ho, yaar! You're such a good robot!" "Main jo kuch bhi hoon, aapki wajah se hoon...Shaan." Shaan shakes his head. That is not true, not anymore. "Tum jo kuch bhi ho, apni wajah se ho!" I love love love the comparison Shaan draws between humans and robots - both have the capability to be intelligent by default, but it is the learning and application of knowledge and data that matters.

- "This is only Shaan and Rajni time." Shaan is determined to live in his present, with Rajni, right now. The past is something he doesn't feel the need to think about...but I think he needs closure still, in order to truly move on, into the future. For now, though, what matters most is him, Rajni, and the time they have left together. "Main sirf aur sirf Rajni ki baatein karna chahta hoon." He leans forward to wrap an arm around her. This is so sweet, the way they're sitting by the edge of the water together. "Kya baat, Shaan?" The words come to his lips easily now. "Yehi ki tum kitni khoobsurat ho! Dil se! I mean...Central Processing Unit se!" That sweet smile on his face as he tells her how pure she is, how considerate she is, how caring she is...And then the smile dims as he remembers that she will be gone soon. "Tumhe pata hai, Rajni? Tum jab chali jaaogi, toh meri life ka sabse bada loss hoga. Shaan will be incomplete." There's already melancholy seeping into his tone. It's already there in his eyes. And my heart broke for him again. "Aapko jaanna mere memory ka sabse important data hoga." THIS. She says this like she always does, with that level tone...a slight emphasis on "sabse" - but it warmed my heart.

- "Kyun na hum dono kuch...crazy kare?" Shaan has an idea! I love the almost devilishly naughty glint in his eye as he thinks about how to spend this last night with Rajni. He even does that shifty-eyed expression that Rajni usually does! So freaking adorable! Karan is way, way too cute! "Crazy? Yes! Let's go for a swim!" Love Ridhima's voice modulation here! It instantly lightens the mood of the scene! Rajni's "Mujhe pata hai!" is even more precious! Just the rise and fall in her tone there always makes me laugh! "Crazy! Exciting crazy, Rajni!" A beat. "What is that?" Oh my god, their faces! Their voices! I can't help but laugh every single time I rewatch this! Cuteness overload! "Something that...we have never done!" I love the way he says this, a bit excited, a bit mischievous, all kinds of adorable! Awww, I love Shaan Kant so much!

- I have absolutely no words to describe the beauty of the last shot. Still, words are all I have, so I'll just say this...Everything about this moment is soft, sweet, and subtly intimate. I love love love the way Shaan slowly leans against Rajni and nuzzles against her. I was so surprised to see her close her eyes against his touch, as if savoring the contact...Sigh. These two are so beautiful.

[Episode 93] June 22nd, 2016

- Okay. So that first shot of Shaan and Rajni on the bed in the morning. What is that shot, even? The room is so pristine, the piano music is so lovely...and Rajni is on the bed, leaning back, watching Shaan, who is asleep all sprawled out on the mattress. I think Rajni actually rises from the mattress in order to sit up better...? Hints of sensuality in the way she moves...To the uninitiated, this could totally look like a "morning after" of another kind...It's so beautifully shot! And Karan and Ridhima both look gorgeous.

- Rajni walks over to sit closer to Shaan on the bed...leans down to speak into his ear..."Shaan?" Her voice is so melodious, her tone somewhere between a question and a wake-up call. Groggily, he opens his eyes. "Mmm..." "Good morning!" "Morning ho gayi? Morning." The little nuances of intimacy between them are so beautifully and so naturally shown - Rajni hovering over Shaan, brushing her hair across his face lightly, reaching across his chest with a hand on his arm as she tries to wake him up, as a wife would...Shaan drowsily mumbling and licking his lips before turning towards her, not wanting to get up just yet...They're so close together and their comfort in each other's presence is such a far cry from the awkwardness between them on their actual wedding night.

- I love how Rajni tells Shaan that he did indeed do something crazy the night before. That wakes him up, haha. "Kya?" She nods. "What crazy? Matlab...Kiske saath?! Kaise?!" LOL, Shaan. The way this guy's mind works! He never does crazy things - so what happened last night? Rajni just blinks at him, teasingly, knowingly. "Rajni, don't blink, tell me." More coy blinks...and a smile. Uff!

- Dhyaan and Sharmila find their "unromantic" Shaan Bhaiyya and Rajni Bhabhi locked in a sort of romantic position on the bed. Shaan doesn't seem bothered by his proximity to Rajni until Dhyaan clears his throat and announces that they're not alone anymore. Dhyaan doesn't look very surprised at all, haha. He seems so smug about the whole thing, actually. "And by the way, subah ho gayi hai. You can take a break." Dhyaan's face while Rajni is telling Shaan that the others should know what happened last night - he just keeps looking at his brother with a sort of "Bhaiyya! I didn't know you had it in you!" expression, haha. Amazing. This guy is so cheeky and totally unapologetic about it!

- The ShaJni tattoo is fantastic. I love the design! Whoever came up with this - it's brilliant! A little robot with a heart on top of the "h", a cog on top of the "j", and feathers on either end of the portmanteau...I want this on a poster. Also, how sweet is it that Shaan got this tattoo done while inebriated? Rajni has left her mark on him in so many ways already, internally...But this, this is for everyone to see. And Shaan was the one who did it.

- Random aside. Matthew showing up at Shaan's door just to announce his arrival and that Shaan has two hours left before he has to deliver the robot. Wow. Couldn't have called him on the phone? But I thought it was pretty great how Shaan avoids a potentially sticky situation by simply saying that he can't let Matthew into the room because... "Woh meri...wife..." That sideways glance towards the interior of the room - nice, Shaan. Nice!

- Rajni has two hours to find a perfect wife for Shaan. Oh, Rajni. When will her logic help her reach the conclusion that SHE is the perfect wife for Shaan? She is Rajni Kant! And she's the only one who can keep up with the sort of lifestyle that Shaan Kant leads. She loosens him up, makes him do things that he's never dared to do before in his entire life...And their lives are intertwined. Just like that tattoo on his arm. Shaan + Rajni. ShaJni.

- The Ex is a lawyer. A divorce lawyer? She deals with problematic relationships on a regular basis, but she believes that not all men are philanderers. Not all men are like that...because she knew one who was loyal. "Mr. Shantanu Kant. Mr. Loyal...No! Mr. Genius! Pata nahi kya kar raha hoga, paagal..." Samaira's expressions are interesting in this bit. When she says Shaan's name, there's almost a hardness, a bitterness, maybe, in her voice and eyes. That softens as she recalls how loyal he was...And then suddenly her eyebrows shoot up along with her tone. "No! Mr. Genius!" That's what he was. A genius who was always more loyal to his robot than he was to her. That paagal is STILL loyal to his robot, Samaira. That paagal now has a wife. And guess who that wife is? Rajni Kant.

- Dhyaan, ever the devoted devar, wants to take his bhabhi shopping. Rajni asks Shaan if she can take his wallet with her...He snatches it back. Something he doesn't want her to see? A photo, perhaps? Rajni and Shaan reminded me of a typical married couple here, the husband reluctant to let his wife go and spend his money on clothes and whatnot, the wife disapprovingly giving her husband that look...Haha! Rajni just stares at Shaan silently for quite a while. And then, wait for it..."You cheapo!" "Achha, le jaao! Drama queen!"

- Shaan bids Rajni goodbye by returning her peppy wave in silence. He lets her hi-five him, even. But he doesn't say anything. "Yeh last 'Bye bye bye!' honewaali hai, Rajni...Kaash last ke yeh kuch pal tumhare saath bitaa paata. Kaash tum yeh sad feeling samajh paati...Ab tumhe dismantle karne ka time aa gaya." It's starting to sink in slowly now. The countdown begins. Shaan is back to talking to himself, as if Rajni is there beside him when she's really not there. Is this how he used to live his life before she was activated? He seems so quiet, so lonely already. There's already a melancholy yearning in his tone. If only you were here with me. If only you could understand how I feel. If only...if only you didn't have to leave me...

- This wallet is important, that's for sure. As of now, it presents a conflict to Rajni, that of ethics and logic. She shouldn't open it without Shaan's permission, right? But as his wife, doesn't she have a right to do so? As someone close to him, does she have the right to go delving into his past? Would he want her to do this? He said that he doesn't need anyone besides Rajni to take care of him. But when Rajni leaves...what then? Would that change his answer?

Meanwhile at the Kant residence...

- Shogata Kant, from miserably shocked bride to extremely reluctant wife...I never thought I'd see the day when she'd be ironing a man's shirts at home! But here she is, unhappily ironing away at Dev's many plaid shirts! Her little lament reminds me of what Dev had said while putting his stuff into her almari, actually. It fascinates me that they speak in very similar ways, with similar phrases. In the next scene, Dev calls Shogu a "good girl" much in the same way that she used to call Matthew a "good boy." Dev and Shogata are more similar than they think...

- "Mann toh kar raha hai...uss Bangdu ko iss shirt mein daal ke iron kar doon!" She's fuming inside. Steaming, more likely! This is my favorite line from this scene, hands down. Neha says it so cutely and I love the way her voice rises in pitch on those last few words, conveying Shogu's mounting irritation. Awww, poor baby! And yet she still keeps ironing.

- Surili is completely baffled when she finally finds her daughter after searching the whole house. Ironing THAT Dev's shirts? "...Why?!?!" Shogu narrates her tale of woe and ends with a sigh. "WDID?" "...Dekho, Shogu...Jabhi bhi tum takleef mein ho, na, toh short form mein baat mat karo. Warna humein pata nahi chalega ki tumhari takleef kya hai. Right? Problem solve hi nahi hogi?" Ahahaha, I love Surili's reaction so much! This mother-daughter duo is SO adorable when they're not plotting against the other women *cough* Rajni *cough* in the house. When they're trying to deal with Shogu's own problems and her terrible married life, they're so endearing and entertaining! I am forever impressed with how Pallaviji and Neha are like two women cut from the same cloth. Appearance, tone, facial expressions, everything is on point and it feels like it comes effortlessly to both of them! When it comes to actors portraying family members in a show, this is the best casting decision I've ever seen. Major props to the team for this!

- WDID. Translation? "What do I do?" Ummm. Nothing. Sorry, Shogu. I can't believe she's STILL hung up on "her Matty" who doesn't give a damn about her! Surili can't believe it, either. "Shogu! You stupid girl! Jo ladka tumhari har demand poori kare, zaroori nahi woh tumse pyaar karta, OK?! Aise tum khush nahi rahogi!" "I don't care, Mom! Life mein agar rona hi hai, toh kisi bungle mein roon! Kisi one-bedroom flat mein nahi!" Ah, this scene is wonderful. For perhaps the first time, a difference in their mentalities comes to light. Surili, for all her complaining about Amrish, genuinely loves him and it has been hinted that she married him for love, disregarding status, and that she believed in him enough to help him grow as a person and as a businessman. She has a good head on her shoulders in this respect. Money cannot buy happiness. Shogata's view is different. If she's going to marry someone who doesn't love her, she might as well be comfortable for the rest of her life while being miserable on the inside. The particular words she uses here stood out to me..."Life mein agar rona hi hai..." And that begs the question...did Shogata actually love Matthew?

- Shogu has lost out on a chance to expand on the status, prestige, and material comforts that she has probably grown up with all her life...She takes all this for granted, it seems...She's devastated that she had a chance to maintain that lifestyle and lost out on it because of Dev. While watching this scene, I wondered if Dev's house is essentially the "one-bedroom flat" that Shogu refers to here in an offhand manner. Is it literally a one-bedroom flat in a run-down community? If she ever has to go and live with him there, how will she cope? Would seeing Dev in that sort of environment increase her regard for him and for the people who lead such hard lives in general? That is something I would really, really like to see.

- "Shogata ko hi kuch karna padega." Shogu's smile is devilishly sweet. She's got a plan. "Aye, Bangdu!" She throws out that name curtly, throws his clothes down on Shaan's bed carelessly, and turns to leave. So that's where Dev has been sleeping? Or is he just spending time there because it's Shaan-Rajni's room? "Aye! Izzat se baat karo, warna...! Tum jaanti ho!" Her body language changes. So does her voice. Shogata reaches down to presumably fix the pile of clothes with a smile that is saccharine-sweet. "Aapke kapde." So cute, haha! Dev is happy with that, but not happy enough. He provokes her again, and the real Shogu is back for a fleeting moment before she checks herself and her temper once more. With a smile and a servant-like curtsy, she leaves. Forced to make food for the Bhukkad...but she's got an ace up her sleeve.

- Poor Dev! Everyone notices his wardrobe malfunction and he has no clue at all! Shogu sends her mom a smirk over her teacup...and then tries and fails to hold her laughter in. I love that wide shot of everyone at the table, in which Shogu is shaking with suppressed, silent laughter, her head in her hands. Bhukkad Bangdu is between a rock and a hard place today! He's teased by everyone except Amrish, who takes a picture of Dev's new fashion and thankfully shows it to his temporary damaad. I love Amrish Kant! He's the best! How many times will I say this? I'm never going to stop saying it, it seems! What a gem of a man!

- "Dhobi ke paas jaa..." Oh, I love the silent communication going on between Dev-Shogata in this bit! Amrish advises Dev to go to the "dhobi" who did such a terrible job ironing those pants...Dev glares at the dhobi in question, who is sitting next to her father and looking mighty pleased with herself. "Too bad, Bangdu!" she seems to say. Dev speaks through gritted teeth. "Uss dhobi se toh main jawaab maang kar rahoonga!" And the dhobi answers, all sarcastic sweetness. "Woh kya hai, na...Free mein kaam karwaaoge...toh aisa hi hoga!" She raises her eyebrows at him, in a challenge. "Got an answer to that, Bangdu?" He doesn't.

- Dev turns tail and edges out of the dining room. Today has gotten off to a pretty awful start for him. Shogata looks like she's having the time of her life. She shakes her head at him, smiling. And she watches him leave, her eyes sparkling with mischief, mirth...and a hint of vindictiveness. "Yeh toh sirf shuruaat hai, Bangdu..." I love this girl. Truly. There's something about her...

[Episode 94] June 23rd, 2016

- Rajni is confused. So, in accordance with her logic, she goes to Shaan's mandir. Because she's supposed to learn from humans, live among them, and adopt their customs in order to better fit in. She also goes there because she needs a solution...and this is where Shaan would go...with Samaira. 4 diyas, 4 prayers. Samaira begins to pray. I noticed a ring on her left ring finger. Does that mean anything? She notices a woman copying her...Rajni promptly apologizes. "I am sorry...agar aapko bura laga ho toh!" She's learning fast! Picking up on facial cues like that, then trying to apologize. Very nice, Rajni! Samaira seems sweet. What I am a bit confused about is how she and Shaan lost complete contact if she still cares for him enough for his wallet to affect her like this. Granted, they probably parted on bad terms...She might be casting a rosy light on some aspects of their relationship now, in retrospect...but I think there's still a bitterness in her, if her expressions in the previous episode are any hints at all.

- The ethics vs logic question is still Rajni's mind. She tells this to Samaira, who offers her sound advice. There's no "his" or "hers", no "yours" or "mine" in a married relationship. So if that wallet is Rajni's husband's wallet, logically, Rajni has the right to look at it. I wonder if Samaira is going to think back to this moment later on, because she did observe that Shaan's wallet looked just like the one Rajni has in her hand. Of course, realistically, many people could have the same exact wallet because they're not designer pieces or anything...

- "Phere lete waqt meri battery low thi..." Awww, Rajni is sooo cute! I love Ridhima's face here! Rajni looks genuinely disappointed that she was so drained during the wedding rituals! What a sweetheart she is! "Yahan par bahut logon ko apna pyaar mila hai! I hope aapko bhi apna humsafar yahin mil jaaye!" Here we go with the foreshadowing again. Rajni, why are you such a kind soul?

- Rajni picks up Shaan's wallet. "Iss wallet mein Samaira ki tasveer ho sakti hai." She opens the wallet...and there is the thing Shaan didn't want her to see. A picture of Shaan and a bespectacled girl...Rajni scans the image and scans her memory. She finds a match. The girl she is looking for is the girl she was just talking to. Samaira. "Avishwasniya!"

- A bit of a study in contrasts here. The link to the past and possibly to the future - Rajni's response upon discovering that she has found Shaan's ex-girlfriend is one of excitement. Her mission is nearing completion, and she has to tell Shaan! She has found Samaira! The one who wants to hold onto the present and doesn't want to let it go - Shaan's response upon catching a glimpse of Samaira in the elevator is one of confusion. And that's it. There's more of a lack of reaction from him than even I had expected. He's so preoccupied with Rajni's fate that nothing else seems to register right now. It was always Rajni he was loyal to. And now on the verge of separation, it remains to be seen what will happen next.

- "Shaan...kaun hai?" For all the brilliance of the heartbreaking moments revealing Shaan's inner conflict and his resolve to follow through with his commitment in the face of overwhelming attachment to his Rajni...I will leave this here. One thing I would like to note, which I realized after writing that post...While dismantling Rajni, Shaan carefully removes her golden cuff bracelet and earrings. Everything that makes her HIS Rajni, Shaan's Rajni Kant, is stripped from her. He wipes her mind and body clean of any distinguishing features that made her his. She is back to being just a machine. Just a machine in a box. And it breaks his heart to do this to her. Karan, Ridhima, and the writing team...Thank you for this. The final scene of this episode breaks my heart every single time I watch it. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Meanwhile at the Kant residence...

- Dev enters Shogu's room by jumping through her indoor window?! What a cartoon, LOL! Dev is my fave, haha. Oh, oh! There's a guitar in her room! I noticed this back when we saw the interior of Shogata's room for the first time. Since Neel can play the guitar and sing very, very well...Could Dev sing in the show in the future? One of his many hidden talents? *prays fervently for this to happen*

- "You Jungli Billi! Meri jeans ka pichwaara jalaa kar, tum yahan apne naakhoon tez kar rahi ho?! Mujhe nochne ke liye?!" "Awww, Bangdu!" Shogata reminds me of a cat, really. She's all grace and poise. Her voice is mellifluous, like a cat's meow. And yes, she's Dev's Jungli Billi. She can be dangerous if she wants to be. But she can also be gentle. This is not one of those days.

- "Dhamki? Dev the Bangdu ko dhamki?!" "Devendra Bangdu...Shogata will murder you! Give me those photos!" Cat and mouse. They're like two children when they're with each other, fighting and running in circles. There was this one bit in the BTS footage where Shogu was moaning about her bed being ruined, haha. Dev jumps out of her window and runs off to some other place...and ultimately, Shogu follows him all the way to Shaan's lab.

- She sees her nemesis sitting in Shaan's chair looking very pleased with himself. And she pieces it together. "Bangdu...Don't tell me ki tumne woh pics upload kar di hai..." "Machchi khaa khaake bahut intelligent ho gayi ho tum, Bangaalan!" Hahaha, I love this! Can "Bangaalan" be a moniker for Shogu that sticks for good? It's so cute coming from Dev! Then again, I love all the nicknames they have for each other!

- "Bangdu...! Tu toh gaya! YAD!" She is furious. He is confused. "YAD? Matlab 'yaad'? Matthew ki yaad aa rahi hai?" "YOU ARE DEAD!" This whole scene is gold! I love all of the things they yell at each other while running in circles around the table! "Vidhwaa ho jaayegi!" "Oh, yeah! Right! I would LOVE to be your vidhwaa!" They just never stop, haha!

- Shogata is clever enough to stop and wait for Dev to run into her. But she's not clever enough to notice that her hand landed in a glop of super-sticky glue. So she slaps Dev, who raises a hand to shield himself...and they get stuck. "OMG! I can't stay like that! Mujhe tumse koi infection ho jaayega!" "Hello! Tumhe chhoone se mere infection ko bhi infection ho jaayega!" "Oh, you shut up!" "You shut up!" They pull and pull, but they're stuck. Shogu's last resort, as usual, is to call out to her mom, just like a little kid stuck in a situation she can't get out of by herself. "Nooo! Mom! OMG!" This is the last thing Shogata wanted. To be stuck with Dev. Literally. Stuck for life.

[Episode 95] June 24th, 2016

- See, this is why Shogata needs to get over herself and this hangup she has about Matthew! The guy is a terrible, terrible specimen of human being. And that is putting my thoughts lightly. I have no shortage of English curse words to use for him now. My advice to Shaan and Shogu would be, literally and figuratively, to GTFO of his clutches before it's too late! Hurry up and save yourselves and Rajni and Dev before things go from bad to worse, you idiots!

- I was thinking Matthew would go the world domination route. Thankfully, the creative team of this show comes up with more plausible things than that. But this is just as bad. Espionage, (bio)terror, murder, and the devil-knows-what-else. As long as his hands are clean from the dirty work, Matthew is perfectly fine misusing a machine's power to enhance his own power. That is an abuse of power. What's worse is that for money and fame, people like the one Matthew hired to reconfigure Rajni are willing to put aside their morality and ethics to execute warped visions of greatness. Genuinely hardworking people with moral codes, like Shaan, get pushed by the wayside. They're dismissed as losers, as lukkhas.

- "You are Shaan!" I could never finish off a review of the week's episodes without writing about Shaan-Rajni...Shaan's dawning realization of just how much Rajni has done for him and how integral she has been in shaping him into a stronger man was so unexpected! It took me by surprise and that made it all the more wonderful to see! From within the narrative, it makes sense that Shaan would be thinking about all this, since Rajni just left him feeling incomplete and directionless...She helped him to introspect...and with her help, he has changed for the better. I love how Shaan's monologue in this episode provides an answer to Rajni's final question from the previous episode. "Shaan kaun hai...?" "You are Shaan!" BRILLIANT writing! 👏 👏 👏

Meanwhile at the Kant residence...

- "Shogu! Shogu, where are you, baby?" I think it's safe to assume that Surili had to check the entire house AND yard before she found her daughter this time! LOL! Pallaviji nails the Bengali mother tone again! The way she calls out, "Shoguuu!" reminded me of the way my mother calls out my daak naam (pet name) in Bengali. Perfect! Surili is in for quite a shock this time. She was stunned to see Shogata ironing Dev's clothes earlier...I can't imagine what her blood pressure shoots up to when she sees Shogata WITH Dev, in Shaan's lab, of all places.

- Dev and Shogata, the unhappily married couple, are fast asleep, tired out from their earlier exertion. They're sitting on the floor with their heads resting on the table, foreheads touching, hands joined between them. So, effectively, their bodies form a heart shape. I pretty much died when I figured that out. SO ADORABLE! #Lovebirds

- "Dugga! Ei cholbe na! Ei cholbe na! SHOGU!" Shogata stirs at the sound of her mother's yelling. She blinks sleepily and raises her head. "Mom!" Her voice sounds a bit hoarse to me...? Like she yelled herself hoarse and is having to use her voice again after quite a while. The way she blinks and looks around, though! What a cutie she is! Dawww! I fall in love with this girl more and more every day!

- Her mom is being all dramatic, like the world is ending, and she's clueless. "Kya kar diya???" "Apne aap ko dekho! Isse pakad ke kaise...lovebird ki tarah so rahi thi!" Shogu frowns and finally looks down at her hand. Oh, that. Yeah, mom, uh...we kind of got stuck together. Lovebird actually does sum it up quite well, though. Their sleeping positions, that is.

- "Oh, god! Tumhe isse pyaar ho gaya hai?!" The expression on poor Shogu's face! The shock. The horror. The gasp that escapes her mouth, haha! "W*F!" I found it quite hilarious that Shogu started to slap Dev's arm to get him to wake up. They have absolutely no qualms getting in each other's personal space. Very refreshing to see that. And it's completely natural for them, no awkwardness at all - maybe because they're not in a frame of mind to be awkward about the proximity. They're just two kids who have known each other for a very long time, who don't get along, who are unfortunately stuck together for the next 6 months. Literally stuck together right now, too.

- "Arrey, maana ki iski akal ghaas chadhne gayi hai, lekin meri toh salaamat hai, na? Humare beech mein kabhi pyaar-vyaar ho hi nahi sakta!" He insults her, praises himself, and rules out the chance of feelings ever blossoming between the two of them - all in one breath! Dev, my shipper heart is breaking, yaar! Actually, no. Every time either of them says something like this, I just say to myself, "Just wait and watch, you two. WAW. You probably won't even realize when you'll end up growing fond of each other..." I'm really looking forward to seeing what little things they discover about each other over the next 6 months!

- "Thank god! Humein laga tha ki tum isse pyaar..." She can't even bring herself to say it! Haha, another thing I'm looking forward to seeing is Surili's reaction when her worst nightmare comes true! And Shogata is as cute as ever, all aghast at her mother's insinuations. "Oh, Mom! Pyaar aur iss bandar se?!" I think it's confirmed now - Dev is Shogu's bandar. He's a very sweet bandar, though. Just not to her. He loses no opportunity to mock her, LOL.

- What is that tool that Surili picks up from the table? Is it some kind of engineering or carpenter tool? It's not a ruler or yardstick for sure. In any case, whatever it is, it doesn't work. She ends up hitting Dev more than anything else! Shogu panics. "Mom! This is not working! Aap mujhe pull kijiye!" And pull she does, with all her might. Even that doesn't work because Dev isn't helping, haha. Shogu's exasperated, "Oh, stupid! Kuch hold karo wahan!" gave me even more married couple vibes!

- "Yahan mile so mile...upar mat milna!" Shogata holds up a finger in warning and Dev angrily jumps in response. He's at his wit's end when it comes to this girl, especially after all that happened today. "Arrey, tum yahan bhi kyun mili mujhe samajh mein nahi aata! Bhaag phoot gaye mere!" LMAO, Shogu's talking about meeting him upstairs, and Dev misinterprets her, thinking she's referring to meeting him in heaven?! Oh, these two adorable idiots are way too endearing! Love them! And then there's Surili, who is such a riot when she's with them! "Mannerless!" LOL, so cute, the way she says this! I would happily watch half an episode with these three every day, provided that the other half has Shaan and Rajni in it!

- Just when Shaan's day has reached rock bottom, Dev calls Shaan up. "Tu aaj Matthew ko Rajni handover karnewaala tha, na? Kya hua? Meri lokhand ki behen chali gayi?" Devendra Bangdu. Dev. His name is Devendra...and he is a godsend for the Kants. I have never seen a more loyal friend. And truly, appearances are deceptive. I keep saying that Dev is much stronger than he looks. He keeps proving again and again how true that is. He has such presence of mind! He's a computer programmer, right? Well, I can see why Shaan relied on him for Rajni's programs! He's a bit scatterbrained and clumsy at times, but his mind is sharp, probably much sharper than Shogata's nails! Dev is devastated that Rajni is gone, but once Shaan tells him that Matthew is definitely going to misuse Rajni, Dev's concern takes over. He panics for a bit, then tries to think...Nothing comes to mind, except that if Rajni were with them, she would've come up with a solution in a matter of seconds. That gets him thinking...She had once used a disguise to save Dhyaan...What if Shaan uses a disguise to save her? Thank god for Dev! I don't know how his idea will turn out or if it will work, but something's better than nothing, so thank god for Dev the Bangdu!
