Ram Ficlet: Mourning

Ram looks on, his father's smiling face looking down on him.

Honestly, Ram wants to yell at him. Yell at him for driving at such late hours, yell at him for not informing anyone before leaving, yell at him for not even hinting that it was the last Ram would see him. But he can't.

"Puttar!" He had always called him that, a reminder of his Punjabi roots. Now, there is no one to call him that. He knows he has a family, but they aren't really his family, not his blood, are they?

Do they even consider him his family? Ram doesn't know, and at this point, about ten years since his father's second marriage, Ram doesn't care. He had promised his father that he would consider them his family, that he would do everything in his power to love them.

But love shouldn't be "promised". Ram knows that. So he settles for the next best thing. Ram respects his stepmother and adores his step-siblings. He had always thought that he had time to love them, but the shock of losing his father makes him question this.

Does he really have the time to love? Does he have the time to take someone for granted? Can he ever love someone again? After losing two people in almost one year and losing his baby sister and mother ages ago, Ram doesn't really think he has in it to love someone. Now that he thinks of it, he never really mourned his sister, who died within hours after her birth and their mother’s death. He had mourned his mother. He was six year old when he lost her, and had cried for a year. He had then had sort of pushed his mother’s memories to the back of his head, but never his sister, he hadn’t been that old to fathom that loss.

He loves his friends. They are his soul. Heck, he can't imagine himself without Brinda and Adi, he would die, probably, but again, it's not the same. They have a life beyond him, and even if they are holding him, they will still not be called his.

So yeah, he looks at the last person he could call his, his father. Now, all that remains of him is his ashes. Ram sighs, and Aditya looks at him, bless his soul. He comes forward to help him, but Ram nods his head. He picks the urchin and leaves the vast living room of the Kapoor Mansion, looking almost dead after the death of its owner.

He doesn't want to go back, but he doesn't have the choice anymore. The second the rogue car hit his father's car, he had lost his choice of giving up, because now, he has to live for the step family, as he had promised his father, and so, the choice to just give up on life and continue mourning his lost family was off the book.

But he walks to the pad of roses in the garden, his father's favorite part of the mansion, to show him the roses for one last time.

~~~~~~
Sorry for picking into Ram’s daddy issue and tying them into his “favorite flowers” issues, but the angst! I have a headcanon that Ram lost his mother to childbirth, added that too. Plus, I REFUSE to believe that Ram wasn’t filthy rich when Vedika left him or Ram’s father died.
I had promised on working on something about Ram's family when I had wrote part 1 of Prizes and Punishment, and this wasn't what I was aiming then, but am I sad? No! I love this!
It’s a part of my series where I explore (side) characters of BALH2. Drop down your comments below.
Well I am happy to see you back. You have been inactive for last few days. I hope all is good.
And the OS is really good, filled with melancholy and you know I agree with you that Ram had to be rich when vedika left him, there is not a single bone in his body that says otherwise. Also Ram's dad's death and roses 🥺👌 that is a very good connection you made there. I always feel like there has to be a reason other than money why Ram feels connected to roses. And it was a good call for connecting all the loses in his life to the decision he made for accepting his step-family👏 i also feel that Ram's love for all the family members comes from the fear of abandonment issues and also in his head he has made a perception that all relationships comes with a time stamp, infact I posted the same thing in the edt a couple of days ago.
Good job, would love to read more on other characters. 👌👌👌
Exactly my point!! There is not a single middle class person who doesn't know that gyser jal sakta hai, bulb kese change kre, fisool kharch, I mean ek button Tut gya to tarun ko dedo 😆 he has to be born with a platinum spoon in his mouth to not know these things.
Wonderful! I love your exploration of the side characters in such a meaningful way!
The show unfortunately doesn’t let our leads actually talk to each other unless under the influence. My favourite is the bench scene before Diwali where Ram is very self aware of what his relation with his stepfamily is! Those are the layers I want these two to explore and not fill in the blanks for each other cos honestly they suck at getting to what the other is thinking.
Every other show I’ve seen, I’ve always rued the fact that the leads don’t get monologues. Here I’m like please bhai stop the monologues and let’s get some dialogues.
Regarding the flowers, I absolutely love that you’ve tied it to his father.
P.S I think the vedu dialogue probably is because he’s lost his cc and Tarun hasn’t gotten him a new one so he can only buy one branch with his pocket change. Agla scene tarun would bring his cc and we’re back to lily garden (it’s just that the flashback doesn’t go back that far).
Who’s next on your list? I would love to see what Shubhu is all about!
Shubhu is all about 5%🤣 uske aage uske life mein koi motivation hai hi nahi🤣
@P.S. Damn, that makes sense😲
This show makes us do weird things, so I guess we can count it as a win, if not anything, we tend to write what we don't get😆
The beautiful pain of loss, even this is beautiful, when we love and keep alive those who are no longer there. Often, alas, these are our dearest people.
Rаm a cannot see them, but they are near, and God sent him friends, and then Priya, with the blessing of both parents, so that together with this girl he would be reborn and continue to love roses with full breath
