I have to say after a range of things that sometimes did not make sense in this show, last night's episode was a beautiful compilation of what can go really right when the writing, acting and direction is on point! I think it is fair to say that all those factors came together really nicely, not just last night but also across this last week of the show. The makers really nicely touched on both Ram and Priya's insecurities, burdens and internal longing 💔. They both carry the burden of their past within but demonstrate it so differently on the outside, and somehow their similarities and differences both complement each other so well. Some of the facets they explored last night gave us such good insight into Ram much beyond the rather in your face eating and pill popping. This is a man who has so much more substance to him and it all came together so well 👏
1) Ram's fears and tears for his family were so nicely tied into Ram's own vulnerability of being a motherless child and then having someone accept him and make him a part of their family unit. I really really liked how Ram clarified that he did not consider his family's love his "right" but more his luck and what he just got given by fate. Somewhere within there is a lingering insecurity of I am lonely and don't deserve anyone's love, so no wonder Ram has no reaction when he is not acknowledged by anyone in the family for any success they achieve. He doesn't expect it because he feels he doesn't deserve it. But somehow with Priya this is changing. This is why you could see Ram being so taken aback by the way Priya stood up for him in that news interview and also how he clarified in the previous dinner scene whether Priya was concerned about him. Her general presence, her concern, and even her willingness to apologize/own up to her mistakes are the little things that are making Ram feel he is deserving of someone being truly his own ❤️❤️❤️
2) This also really tied well into another point about Ram's deep longing to belong. To belong to someone and to feel he is loved and acknowledged. The fact that he likes people coming up to him with their problems and then thanking him, makes him feel accepted and maybe not so alone. No wonder it has been shown all along that Ram has a big heart, gives without expecting in return but also unfortunately falls prey to manipulation and being taken advantage of by his own family. He gives because the love and acceptance he gets in return makes him feel less lonely 🥺
3) The segway to Ram then telling Priya that she possibly hates him and that is really hard for him to make her happy also works really well because given Ram's insecurities I think he has genuinely made an effort to make Priya happy or to even simply get her to smile. I think he seeks validation from Priya much like everyone else, but because Priya does not reciprocate, his interpretation of her hating him makes so much sense. I think this was a really nice prompt to now help Priya let her guard down and in some way think before she has a go at Ram for something. She clearly could tell Ram is way more sensitive on the inside then he lets on and it was nice to see Priya softening up so much 👍🏼.
4) Last night's scene also made it very obvious that Ram has approached this marriage with utmost genuineness and sincerity. Even when he said he never considered this marriage to be "fake" unlike Priya, it was apparent that all his emotional reactions during his interactions with Priya were real. I also think Ram is definitely more attracted to Priya at this point than she is. I do love how there is no awkwardness with physical touch and Ram very naturally holds onto Priya, tucks her hair and rests his head on her shoulder. Priya isn't so spontaneous, however, she never retreats when Ram does initiate holding onto her. Ram even very directly told Priya why he likes her with her hair open, because the softness she radiates almost makes her more approachable to him. I don't know who will realize they're in love first, but Ram surely has fewer barriers than Priya does ❤️.
5) Priya's internal monologue later on also very nicely captured Priya's inner workings and how after being let down so many times by different men she has learnt to become self reliant. She doesn't want Ram to become her weakness because she is petrified of how she will cope if he fails her or leaves her. The anger, the taunts, the seriousness, are all of Priya's masks to avoid getting hurt. She acknowledges the good in Ram but is so scared to open up to him because she has neither been helped or supported by anyone, nor has learnt to ask for help 😔. In the quest for independence Priya has learnt to keep people at arms length and somehow Ram making his way into her life/heart is elevating her own fears. I think Priya never expected to get married or have a man she could call her "husband" in her life, so now having this man with such a big heart and genuine intentions makes her weary. Even Ram picked up on how she wouldn't accept a compliment from him and that was such a good catch on how Priya is just not used to this, so she remains very unsure of how to respond to it. I think it will be nice to see how things play out from here on because Priya letting Ram in will take both time and patience.
I think Nakuul and Disha were fabulous as always! There was just so much simplicity, maturity and authenticity to the entire interaction. Even their costumes, make up, the bench setting, dimmed background light, all of it just enhanced the scene. Again props to the writers and directors! The constantly changing background music of Hindi songs/instrumentals was a bit distracting, I wish the editor would've just stuck to one background instrumental throughout the scene but regardless, the rest of it came together really very well. Hoping to see a lot more of this in the weeks ahead 👍🏼
