I am in love with this show after a week. As I and others have repeated, we can only hope this will continue and the story, characterization and quality don't decline. And I hope the script and direction continue to to be tight, and we are spared countless bloopers, nonsense and senseless dragging, stupid twists, OTT reaction shots, etc.
The synopsis says this story starts in Lucknow and ends in Bollywood. So let's see if that happens, and how that happens.
With that out of the way, let me get to some of my thoughts. I'm just going to ramble and just put some thoughts here, without really much structure. So forgive me for that.
Nikumbh. We are introduced to him as he reminisces and recalls memories of his father and past lover. Regarding his father, at first we wouldn't think his father also was an artist, but three episodes later we are made privy to that information. Even more than his past love, his history and relationship with his father is what I'm curious about.
He has a broken love story and is cynical when it comes to love. But that doesn't make him a total grump. In the second episode Nikumbh belittles being in love, but then lightens the situation by telling Aazam if Aazam to dress presentable if he wants to have a chance. And of course the scene in the phone shop, where Nikumbh had his fun.
Nikumbh is not immature and doesn't try to go tit-for-tat the way we are used to seeing so many "fighting couples." He doesn't use the ink on dress situation to bring up what happened with his motorbike. Granted he gave an apology while still also blaming her, but he was in no way glad or satisfied with what happened.
Which reminds me, this couple may be one who's "fighting" so to speak but it's done in a real way, not OTT, not some crazy hyper arguments, etc etc.
Few other points:
I do like that Nikumbh's newspaper stories which Yamini reads are true to himself. (Of course this makes sense, as it weren't true to himself, he would also be a fake artist. And the reason Yamini falls in love with him is because she sees how he's a man of ideals and talent.)
Nikumbh-Aazan's friendship and scenes are really nice to watch.
Nawab said Nikumbh doesn't like hearing compliments, and hee! you could see Nikumbh wanting to slink away from there while the Nawab was introducing him to Yamini.
Yamini... think the actress portrays the character quite well and there's this subtlety to her, which I appreciate. (My complaint would be in Friday's episode the part where she's crying in the song sequence.) I love Yamini's smile and exuberance in the moments where she's allowed.
As I said before I wonder if this is all completely her father and she would rather be away from all this, or she too wants to be a singer or entertainer or whatever in some way--but just not the way her father wants and not the way he goes about it.
I do thank the PH for giving her good clothes, even enviable clothes.😃 From the stills provided, I love that Mustard Yellow jacket.
And for those who haven't seen this, the "introduction" of sorts to the show the night before the premiere. She's going to fall hard for him, and I can't wait. 😃
