So who is your favourite character in Mahabharata and why?

Considering Mahabharata dealt with a lot of unfairness to many people, what would you wish as an alternative path for your favourite character?

1 to 10. Panchali.

11. Krishna

12. Arjuna.

Alternative path for Panchali. For Yudhishtira to have died a convenient death after she got an heir in whose lieu she could rule.

Keeping Lord Krishna separate as none can be compared to him😳

*Reading myself for Rotten tomatoes and eggs for my favourite😆*

1.Karna.

2. Panchali

3. Arjuna.

4. Bhisma

5. Bhima

Would not change about the characters or their journeys as that's what makes Mahabharata special.

Dhananjaya ❤

I'll begin by quoting Dr Bhaduri, my most favourite research scholar on Mahabharat -

"Whenever I think of Arjun, I get reminded of that common boy from East Bengal. He was sent to Kolkata to study by his parents, with expectations- this boy will grow up to bring us all prosperity, food and delight. Yes, he got it all, fame, job, home all. But he was unable to fulfill all expectations. In the passage of time, he lost few, he found few and at the end, it seemed none were content. Neither father, nor mother, wife or brothers. But bottom of the heart, they all know that had he not been there, they'd all float away to unknown destinations." - Krishnaa, Kunti and Kaunteya, introduction (pg 239)

Arjun is metaphorically placed by his creator in the middle of the 5, with the mammoth sized (by personality) Yudhishthir and Bheem on one side and the negligible Nakul and Sahdev on the other. He is neither larger than life like Yudhishthir or Bheem, nor negligible like Nakul and Sahdev. This is true via his personality as well the metaphor.

He is the most balanced of all five, and also the most relatable. When Arjun questions his ownself on seeing Ekalavya and comes running to Drona, we all can relate as this is what a human would do. When he faces Karna for the first time outside of his small world of Gurukul, he realizes what lies ahead, that he has a world waiting for him which will not always be kind. This is not something perfectly crafted "epic heroes" would have. He was human.

He was a passionate learner, an example for everyone especially students like me. His curiousity, intuitiveness is something I so adore.

He compromised the most for his brothers- from sharing his wife to using his skills, his achievements for his elder brother, he never hesitated. I am of the opinion that he should have, but it takes a very big heart and a calm mind to do this.

He is also THE recipent of the Geeta, because Geeta Gyan is for humanity. He was the one who trembled when he faced his elders on ground, Krishna says the most important words of mankind to him at this stage because he was the one who represented anxiety, fear, insecurity and also was the one did his "job" - not worrying about the outcome.

He tried to fulfill everyone's wishes and with care. He didn't frown once except exceptional situations.

I simply love how level headed, selfless, hardworking and dedicated he was as a character, with almost all shades of good, bad, insecure, proud etc.

Lastly, when Keshav was narrating the words which today form the Geeta, at one point he was pointing out how he is the best one in all categories. There he said -

vṛiṣhṇīnāṁ vāsudevo ’smi pāṇḍavānāṁ dhanañjayaḥ munīnām apyahaṁ vyāsaḥ kavīnām uśhanā kaviḥ

(Amongst the descendants of Vrishni, I am Krishna, and amongst the Pandavas I am Arjun. Know me to be Ved Vyas amongst the sages, and Shukracharya amongst the great thinkers.)

Excluding Krishnaji and Balram ji because they were divine

1) Draupadi

2) Vidurji

3) Vikarna-- not easy to speak against your brother in a place where even the king is silent

4) Bheem

5) Sahdev

6) Arjun

7) Chitrangad-- only one who didn't do anything wrong

8) Subhadra

9) Hidimba

10) Abhimanyu, Ghatochkat, Uppandavas, Lakshman, Vrihsena -- All of them were different in skillsets but I do feel all of them are innocent and got into the war of their parents

Baaki koi Pasand nhi hai khaas Pasand
