The pratha of having desrving people as kings during bhart Kingdom was broken when Bheeshma took the pratigya and made undeserving people as kings

Us pratigya se kisi ko fayda nahi huya

Shantanu never lived happily in his second marriage and died of remorse

And satyavati sons were undeserving mostly

Shantanu didn't feel remorse or died due to guilt as shown in the serials.

There are not one one villain but 4 main villain which lead to Mahabharata war

It is impossible to exclude any one of 4 villain

First villain was time if go by Mahabharata many things are changed because of time

If satyavti son would have live long there would be no Mahabharata

2 shakuni

3 duryodhan

4 extreme rigidness of people like duryodhan and bhishm and gandhari lead Mahabharata

Bhishm was too rigid to keep his vows,

Duryodhan was too rigid in enimity with pandav

Gandhari was too rigid blind fold her eyes . If should have not rigid in blind fold her eyes then she could have properly teach her son what is right or wrong but she had to show how she was great devotee of his husband

He is most responsible for his kul destruction

Which ended with satyavati sons untimely death

I saw how he was happy and justifying bhishm oath when he married satyavati

Tab itna gussa aaya uspe

Show mai it looked like satyavati se poora list leke apnr bete and kingdom ka dhayan aaya

How is Shakuni a villain when he had no issue with his sister's marriage? He was merely assisting Duryodhana. Moreover, Shakuni favoured peace over war and advised Duryodhana to hand over the kingdom to the Pandavas.

More than the Bhishma Pratigya, I think it's the indirect snatching away of the kingdom from Devavrat which led to the destruction. Maybe that's why the kingdom couldn't get able or consistent rulers. The capable ones didn't last long.

I don't think there is one person who can be blamed for the final war.

We can say Satyavathi's dad for kick-starting things, we can say Bheesma for sticking so rigidly to his vow to the detriment of the kingdom, we can say Dhritarasthra for being mentally blind and weak, we can say Gandhari for blindfolding herself from her responsibility, we can say Duryodhana for being extremely stubborn and being so unrighteous, Karna for supporting and encouraging Duryodhana ( Dury would not dare to go to war without Karna's support), Dushasan for Draupadi's Vastraharan, Shakuni for influencing his nephews in the wrong way, we can say even Yudhisthir for gambling away his kingdom and being so mild on betrayals and the list goes on and on.

The choice would be different for different people.

For me, Dhritarasthra being denied the throne gave rise to the bitterness which concluded in the war. Not a person, but this event.

How shakuni is not villain of Mahabharata

Did he not advice duryodhan to mix poison in food of duryodhan

And if he was peaceful lover then why he was killed by sehdev in last day of Mahabharata

What shakuni was doing in Kurushetra if he don't want to fight Mahabharata battle

Technically Shakuni, Dhrity.

But if we analyze then Bheeshma, the forerunner of reasons behind such twisted dynamics and also for his vow's sake he let the Kuru generations falter again and again.
