It cannot be Europe in anyway. At best, it could be these civilizations which existed then and yes, Central Asia. So I think their Swagyaloka referred to this.
Aside I read somewhere that there is a mention of Shwetdweepis whose areas were completely white and they belonged to a region where sun did never set
Could this be a reference to someone they interacted from the polar regions

Yes true. I also think great civilizations like Mesopotamia and Egypt could not have flourished without any trade contact.
So it definitely makes sense that the people from Mahabharata were contacted from these other civilizations.
I want to have a time machine and go back to see what actually happened.😃
Yes and that's what brings me to my point
Why didn't they make a record of such a big war in their neighbourhood

True. Sadly, that's what reduces Mahabharata to a mythology rather than history.
Hope someday some lost records or data so come out supporting the existence of these characters.
History only have proof of a war being fought, but not as great as the epic suggests.
On a side note, the great flood has mention in the old testament of the Bible in Noah's chapter as well as our Puranas when Vishnu took the Matsya Roop.
Any thoughts on that?
Was it indeed a worldwide flood? Things to ponder

Wars for kingdom was very common and nothing great about it.
What made this war special was it's mammoth scale including all Indian as well as major foreign kingdoms, even if not 18 akshauni, there should have been at least many lakhs of soldiers and Egyptians or Mesopotamians and even Gandhar's (Afghanistan) missing it out seems way too much improbable

Great flood is a part of all the major civilizations of the earth, not only Puranas but Vedas too have Manu and flood reference. There is a story of great flood in Norse mythology and Greeks too
The Noah's myth probably comes from the Mesopotamian myth The epics of Gilgamesh where the person to save from this flood was Uthnapishtim.
Worldwide flood isn't possible so don't think that would have happened, but probably that could be the memory remanants the ending of Ice age when ice melted and water level increased considerably drowning many land masses. Aside a big meteorite had hit the earth around 10,000 BC which caused water levels to increase.
Since in every myth the flood happened long back in history(of the time it was written around 3.5-4 thousand years back from now)
There was definitely no worldwide flood but there might have been a huge increase in water level which affected all major civilizations then, slowly all these flood myths merged to get a similar story

Maybe they did. The Indus Valley script has still not been deciphered. Cuneiform and Hieroglyphics have only been partially deciphered. Also not all texts are available.
