I know almost all of you guys have seen Hana Yori dango quite a long time ago 😳 But I still wanted to make the topic. I saw 1st episode a long time ago, at the beginning of BBF days. Then I didn't have time and it was weird to see two of the same stories so I stopped.
I just finished episode 5 and this is were Domyoji announces to everyone that Makino is his girl, and just then Rui comes saying he is back.
One thing that I can't get over is how much I like the ost. The song "planetarium" is amazing. I loved boys before flowers music. Cuz i'm stupid and starlight tears are my favorites. I feel like I am drowning when I listen to planetarium. The music is so nice. Just the tume it starts with. I love when the tune plays in the background. 😆😆
About the characters ...
Jandi VS Makino
I really didn't like Jandi. I tried so hard to like her through out the show. I didn't like her till the end of the show when she drowned herself. She just looked so odd...really odd. It wasn't like oh she is not your typical girly girl. She was just plain odd. Like the 1st party scene where it's suppose to be like a fairytale she looked like a duck. (weird one) There were f4 who were perfect Princes and then there was jandi. Another reason I disliked her through out the show till the end because I felt she didn't deserve Jun Pyo, Jun Pyo showed he loved her even when he didn't do anything for her. She looked like she was just there. It never felt like " I am so in love with you".
I like Makino's character. It makes sense. she is so cute! And how she fell for Rui was cute, how she is falling for Domyoji is brilliant. I can totally see it, and feel it. When she is confused it is evident. Everytime she notices some good trait about either of the guys the way her eye softens. That's wasn't the case with Jandi at all.
Jun Pyo VS Domyoji
Jun Pyo is one of the most amazing character I have ever come across. Lee Min ho potrayed it flawlessly. I feel "flawlessly" is too small of a word to describe it.
Domyoji's character is also the same, it's just he tends to be more cruel at times, and nicer during the nice times. He is also more open. He shares more with his friends unlike Jun Pyo and he acts on his feelings more. It is adorable. He is so childish.
Both characters are on the same level for me for now. (but Lee Min Ho's acting does take the cake)
Jihoo VS Rui
Aah Jihoo is so handsome, but I definitely like Rui better so far. Jihoo wasn't just sad at the beginning but literally DEAD. I couldn't feel anything he felt. I can connect with Rui though. He doesn't feel dead. And it doesn't feel like he is being led on a string by the other woman. Even though both stories are same where both characters are completely in love with the woman, Jihoo seemed to be living in another planet, Rui is more believable. And there is spontaniety in his actions. Like coming and saying "you were wrong, it's 7 hours" I so did not expect that.
Yijung+ Woobin VS Sojiro+ Akira
lol. I was afraid I wouldn't like them. They are wonderful at a total different level. Yi Jung and Woobin seemed to get involved because it was interesting, and they cared for Jun Pyo and maybe even about Jandi. Bottomline they seemed like nice people.
Sojiro and Akira are different. They are mischevious, they do bad stuff (they really do, it's not just mere words). Their characters seem more mature, well not mature but more grown up than Woobin and Yijung. They are solely doing this because they care for Domyoji and in that process they are really getting close to Makino. It's not just one day all of a sudden they are savior of Jandi middle of nowhere. I will never get how Woo bin and Yi Jung got so close to Jandi.😕 On the other hand I love how Makino eats lunch with them.
Jandi's Parents VS Makino's parents
Handsdown and I like Makino's better. They are less annoying. Both parents are caring but Makino's parents brought tears to my eyes. Jandi's parents were funny though. And it doesn't feel like Makino's parents are trying to sell their daughter off. I liked Jandi's brother better though.
Mama Kang vs Domyoji's mom
oh Mama Kang was one of the best actresses I ever came across. Talk about being a witch, she rocked!!! Domyoji's mom says harsher things but she can't pull it off. She comes out as a nice woman.
Sisters
I liked Jun Pyo's sister better but I am only on episode 5. So waiting to see where it goes.
Best friend
Gaeul was cute, but I instantly fell for Yuki. She just doesn't seem like she is there filling in the title post of best friend, but actually is a friend. They share everything!!! she gives her advise, questions her. Supports her as friends do in real life. That's what best friends do. They talk about everything!!!😆

Angel,
I completely agree with you on the comparison point... I watched HYD much before BBF and I found the story to be very simple.. It never rushed, had negligible flaws for me.. BBF was more appealing to the eyes in terms of sets and actors . I loved Makino and may be because of my prior prejuidce I could not accept JD easily.. I found Makino worthy of Doumyouji but It never felt the same for Jandi and Jun Pyo... It was a one sided affair mostly where JP invested and lost more than JD... It was easier to feel Makino's confusion over Doumyouji and Rui and her ultimately giving into Doumyouji's feelings... Madam Kang ROCKED big time.. the actress justified her role to the T , Sister has hardly got any role in HYD, Soujiro and Akira never tried to over power the storyline but were always there when Makino and Doumyouji needed their help.. The chemistry between the leads wasd good as per me.. They hardly kissed till the last part but their occassional hugs made it for me....

totally there. BBF was a total treat tot he eyes. Locations, cars, horses, the guys (wow hotness), the school!!
I really like Makino so far. She cares, it is so cute. She understands. The way Makino helped Domyouji was the same way Jandi helped Jun Pyo. But Jandi's one didn't feel nice at all. She covered him up in coats and warmed him up, but I couldn't feel anything. No emotion from her.
Makino's one left me so warm, and touched. Like awwww. Just seeing that she takes her coat and puts it on him saying she is used to the cold, putting his head on her lap, putting her scarf on him. Soo cute.

You tow pretty much pointed out the main reasons as to why HYD is to me better than BBF .. I think the problem with the Korean on was they didn't put enough emotions between Jun Pyo - Jan Di my brother has seen both versions and he was left confused at seeing Jan Di - Ji Hoo together all the time, he thought they were going to get together ! LOL !.. They put too much emphasis on JD - JH friendship instead of showing JD - JP bonding which is why it looks so on sided ..

I agree with you. I have not finished watching Boys Over Flowers yet, still on epi 21. But I have to say, that the main reason why Hana Yori Dango is better in my eyes is because the relationships and interactions were better expressed overall. When watching I never had to ponder about how do I like this character. It was not much of a problem in BOF either, all characters had a firm place in my heart, excluding Jandi. Jandi's actions were very much imbalanced in relationship to Jun Pyo. Sometimes I felt that the relationship that she has with Jihoo was stronger, and that kind of made me feel Jihoo and Jandi should end up together in a way. There was such a great amount of focus on Jihoo and Jandi. I dont know but she never really melted with Jun Pyo, purely in terms of interaction. Jun Pyo was just up there setting a very high standard, carrying the weight around his head. The situation that he was in made his love even stronger. The guy dealt with a lot of crap.
Bascially, in all honesty BOF I believe got a lot of hype just because of the hot sexy cute cast, with expectional to okay acting. Many of my friends who had watched Hana Yori Dango before felt immensely bored while watching BOF, and just gave up watching it. Sometimes I feel good about BOF and sometimes I hate it so much that I have to force myself to watch it. If if was not for that specific F4 there was no way I would make it beyond episode 5. Korean F4 was just so much different from Japanese anime and show. They had a whole new vibe and I really liked it. Japanese F4 set their own amazing standards.

Multani ,
I competely agree with you... If not for the eye appeal, Korean BOF had little to offer in terms of acting.... Seems like only actors who potrayed Gu Family knew how to act, from mother to son to daughter..
HYD completed in just mere 9 parts but the story never rushed and had sense... Makino never forgot to place Domyouji in his place when he acted high and mighty.. she always called him Stupid but she cared for him equally... I loved the way how Domyouji always said I Love You to Makino.... It was pure innocence.... its really true story does make lot of difference... Domyouji's acharacter was more believable , if not for LMH ... GJP would have been complete waste...

😆😆Gu family rocked!! BBF had a flawed script. They dragged so much. I think through out the whole part of mother torturing Jandi and the other guy coming in (who was a loo alike) I totally skipped.!
About Jandi it was't just the unreturned love for Jun pyo, even for Jihoo I really didn't feel anything from her side. They kept showing how she was a such one in a million warm character, I couldn't see it... She just looked so ODD in a negative way. I do think the actress is pretty but the character looked bad. Makino is so cute, and she dresses nice, unlike Jandi. That's a relief.
Jihoo was a prince. It's rare to come across a character who looks this serene, but he was dead. I am a huge fan of dramabeans and the author wrote no one makes food more boring than him. So true. I know he was a sad character but I usually like the sad characters, he was just sad in another planet. I couldn't feel a connection with him.
But my obsession was with Lee min Ho..I will watch the drama all over again just to see Gu jun Pyo. (by skipping everyother part)

^^I felt like that too with Jihoo, not always but sometimes. At times my heart would melt by his actions, but sometimes it was ehhhh...Sunbae I am not feeling it right now. I read somewhere that Kim Hyun Joong really disliked the character of Jihoo, for he felt that it was boring, and he really hated the way Jihoo spoke. For me Kim Hyun Joong is total win over Jihoo. I love the way he talks. And he is just so super nice to his fans. It made me so sad, that he kept apologizing to his fans, because he fainted, not once but several times.

Angel, you read that comment on dramabeans too ( I like that site)... I was laughing my heart out and was like she is bang on point (considering that I am such a foodie) He reacted to food as its a pure pain.. If I ever watch BBF again it will solely be for LMH and somewhat Kim Bum too... he acted well ... I am really feeling bad to say this but with Jan Di it felt as if she was ineterested in neither man but was keeping them as a back up... you know what I mean.. Even when she said she like JP , the genuiness was missing.... If not for the original storyline I would have certainly wanted JK to be with JP... she treated him much better.

😆 you read my mind !.. Awww how I felt so bad for JK she was head over heals in love with him, if JP had met her earlier then they definately would have gotten together (Also the actress that played JK was so good ! ) .. Also LOL I guess we all go to dramabeans blog ! 😃.. She made really good and valid points from the music (I know a lot of people love the songs but personally there were I think maximum 2 - 3 songs I liked but there is one song I can't stand which I think is Stand By Me or something Ohhh man I really couldn't stand the 80's feel of a lot of the songs !.. But I think thats me on my own here), to the consistency of the plot and the "F4" who else felt besides myself that the show felt more like F3 than F4 !.. Most of the time it was either JP-YJ-WB or JH-YJ-WB I honestly felt that the Japanese F4 were by far have the best chemistry and friendship wise ! (I think the fact that Oguri Shun - Matsumoto Jun are Best friends in real life helps though) ..

As for KHJ I couldn't help but laugh at what he said about his character Ji Hoo cause lets be honest his character is so perfectly boring !.. I mean Ji Hoo is to me one of those flawless second leads in the show but why oh why couldn't the PD's or someonemake him a bit more vibrant and alive.. KHJ in real life is 4D I mean watch him on WGM or clips of him with his bandmates and you can see that but his also so funny !

Lets be honest here JD didn't deserve JP but JP deserved to be with the one he loved which sadly is "JD" ! LOL ! (Oh how I wish it was me ! :P)

One more thing how do you guys feel about the "rumoured" BBF Season 2 ?? I don't know if this is true that they are planning to do one or not but personally i don't see what else they could add to the story already !
