Chapter 6

It was happening, Riya was back. The girl they thought they had lost was back to them and they were elated. The team was going back to the ETF office while Arjun sitting in the front was looking back at Riya through the rear-view mirror every alternate minute trying to see if she was okay or if she still there. It was really hard. Hard to believe. But a sweet dream come true.

Reaching the ETF Office, everyone at once jumped out of the vehicle making their way towards while Riya along with Arjun lingered a little backwards. While Riya was busy looking at the enormous building they now had as an office, Arjun was busy noticing her expressions through the corner of his eyes as she did that. Both of them slowly entered the building with Riya still looking around and towards the ceiling that she didn’t really saw the stairs ahead of her. Arjun saw this as and as he ran over to help her, he stood shocked again. Not only did she noticed it, she didn’t need his help. Though she didn’t look at the stairs but she was pretty alarmed about their surroundings. Her guards were still on. And what could anyone even expect from a person who worked as a mole in Sikandar’s place and even lived with him that too for two long years. She was well aware what was going on around her and more than anything she was aware of his gaze on her.

Arjun knew time has changed, but now he was also sure of another thing that the girl in front of him wasn’t the same anymore. His Riya wasn’t the same anymore. The careless, mischievous, bubbly girl was replaced by this woman standing in front of him. Though she wasn’t the same anymore his heart knew better. She still was his Riya. The one he had fallen for. Again, and now again. It pained him to see how she still had her guards on when she was in the ETF building. She of all people, very well knew that she didn’t had to be this aware and attentive yet here she was doing the same. Maybe unknowingly, but she was doing that.

Soon enough they were inside. Though none noticed her entering a little late with Arjun. Everyone was busy in their own work. Taking their belongings from their lockers, keeping back the extra ammunitions they took with them for the mission and looking around if anything was left to be done. D.I.G. sir had given them a holiday for next two days. This mission was harsh, energy draining, both emotionally as well as physically. It was still 5:00 in the morning and everyone was ready to make a move afterall they had a total of three days to themselves if they counted the present day as one too.

Soon, everyone left. Sameer, Sheetal and Aayesha left together while Shree left with Liza. Saksh iwas still looking towards Arjun trying to see if he was going back so that she could leave with him too but to no avail. At last, she went towards him thinking to ask him directly smiling at him sweetly;

Sakshi: Arjun, chale?

Arjun frowned looking at her and shaked his head saying a no.

Sakshi sighed,

Sakshi: Arjun ab aur kitna kaam karoge? Chalo na-

But she went quite as soon as she saw him glaring at her.

Riya saw the exchange with a painful smile. She remembered her early days, her caring for him and him showing his concerns while masking it as his anger. Her relationship with the rest of the team, and Sameer sir. Oh, she was well aware. She saw Sakshi leaving with Chotu and now there were only two of them in the office. Without looking back at him, Riya went out towards the roof with fast strides as if she was breathless. She ran towards the railing holding it tight as she took as much oxygen as she could every time, she breathed in.

Arjun was shocked and without a second thought he went behind her standing a bit away trying to know what happened suddenly. But somehow, he knew what she was feeling. She was feeling out of place here. This wasn’t the ETF base she remembered. And then came the behavior of Shree and Chotu. Yes, they were happy, they were elated to have her back still it wasn’t the same anymore. Their bond, it wasn’t the same. She could feel it as could he. Maybe Chotu and Shree didn’t realize but they did ignore her. Back then, the three of them were always together. Specially Shree and Riya, they were childhood buddies. Never did they ever leave this office without her. And today none bothered to even look at her. Times had changed and changed drastically.

Riya could feel his gaze on her silently following every move of hers yet she didn’t bother to lookback. She was in pain. And she wanted to be reasonable now. She was dead for them from the last two years, how much ever they remembered her still they could not live with her as their priority always and that too when she was dead for the world, for them. It pained her but don’t they say truth is always painful. She held the railing with both her hands as tight as she could, her knuckles turning white as she took deep breathes to calm her heart. She knew what this was. A panic attacks.

Arjun saw the change in her demeanor. She was struggling to breathe and he at once understood what was happening; She was having an anxiety attack. He took long strides towards her hugging her from back, circling his arms around her waist as he moved closer to her inhaling her scent deeply. She went stiff.

Arjun: whispering deeply Riya, relax. Breathe. Breathe for me please.

And she did. She did as she was asked to.

Riya: I- but he stopped her while tightening his hold around her and nuzzling his face into her hair making her take a deep breathe.

Arjun: I know.

And then there was a silence. A comfortable silence. This silence meant more than the words they could speak. Standing there on the roof in a complete silence, together, with her in his arms. This was home. And they felt it with each and every breathe they took. None of them said a word yet emotions were understood. Soon Riya calmed down but still they kept standing looking at nothing in particular. Her hands had left the railing’s support as soon as she felt him near her and now, she held his hands in hers relaxing and snuggling closer to him as if basking in his peace and warmth. Arjun’s state was no different. With her in his arms she could again feel his heart beating, his lips stretched in a beautiful smile, not like everyone could see that but yes, he was smiling and only for her.

Standing there together they watched the dawn coming up as the warmth of the new sun filled them with peace. This was a new dawn and they were together. What more did they need? This was a kind of euphoria they ever wished for and now they had it. Together.

Riya, since the time everyone had come to know of her existence hadn’t spoken a word and neither did Arjun say anything. This was the first time they spoke and they spoke to each other.

Chapter 7

A new dawn brings new spirit, new life and a new goal.

Both, Arjun and Riya kept standing facing the morning sun. None of them speaking anything yet the silence conveyed their emotions. After a good two hours, Riya was the first one to break the silence. And softly she started;

Riya: Sir, we must leave now. You too need to take rest.

Arjun came out of his land, turning her towards himself still wrapping his arms around her waist, he looked at her curiously.

Arjun: We shall. Come.

Riya was confused, she didn’t know what he meant and looked back at him in total confusion. Arjun understood that look.

Arjun: Where do you think you will be going? Your apartment that you had rented isn’t available anymore now. And no way I am letting you move out of this place on your own. You are coming with me. I have settled everything. It’s all sorted.

Riya was left shocked; she didn’t know what should she do. Or better to say she probably didn’t even have a choice. Arjun has just stated his decision and the world knew once Arjun Rawte sets his mind to do something, he does it irrespective of anyone or anything around. She knew there was no way she could escape this.

Arjun could see the wheels of her mind turning and he smirked to himself knowing what she would bethinking. He knew she wouldn’t have a place to live and as soon as they had started leaving Sikandar’s place he had asked someone to clean the new apartment he had bought, thinking to shift into it away from Ravi chawl too. And till now everything would have been settled. He had even sent her bags and other belongings there as soon as they had entered ETF. Her belongings were nothing new than the ones she had while living with Sikandar.

Riya just nodded a little still unsure but her trust in him was above anything and everything in the world. She knew she would be good as long as he was with her.

Soon, both of them stood in front of a door. The door of his or for now their apartment. Arjun opened the door only to reveal a Small but cozy apartment. It was perfect for a single or two persons to live in. Entering inside she found a Living room to the right while a dining table was kept at the left side just a bit before the kitchen. Looking around she found her belongings kept near the couch in the living room. She wasn’t shocked even a bit. She knew if Arjun did something, he must have planned everything.

Arjun: Come, I will show you your room. That side.

Saying so he pointed towards a door. So that was going to be her new room for the time being. Justin front of her room there was another door which according to him was a room and he was taking it.

She entered her room and was impressed with its color. It was in a shade of pastel pink, peach and grey. A perfect combination. The bed was white with peach pillows and a grey comforter. A study table, a cupboard, a dressing table, a washroom and a small balcony with little potted plants and windows. It was perfect for her. Small, nice and cozy. Arjun entered inside with her luggage and was happy to see her comfortable in the room.

Arjun: Riya, come on. Let’s start settling your things in by the time breakfast arrives I have taken the liberty to order something for both of us. I hope it won’t be a problem.

Riya shook her head with a smile. Oh, that smile, anything could change in this world but Riya’s smile would never fail to make his heart leap in joy.

Riya: No problem, sir. I am fine with anything.

Arjun flashed her alight smile and she felt as if her heart leaped out of her body just at a glimpse of his lips stretching into a light, small smile.

Soon, as they had just started with the settlement part, their breakfast arrived and both of them had it quickly again engrossing into the work at hand. After a continuous work of 2more hours, it was almost 10am and most of Riya’s things were settled in. Just when Arjun was taking out another of her books, a bag fell down scattering the medicines it carried. Arjun quickly crouched down to pick it up when he saw how many they were even if he didn’t know what all those medicines were for, he knew about some of them and that scared him. He looked at Riya who was also looking at him as if she has seen some ghost. She didn’t want him to know. She didn’t want to be weak yet here she was again weak and vulnerable only in front of him. Arjun left all that he held in his hand then and there and rushed to her side taking her in a hug as if assuring her that it was all going to be fine. Or maybe assuring himself that he was going to make everything alright.

Those medicines that Arjun recognized were no different than the ones he used at some point of his life. Those were anxiety controllers, panic attack medicines and also there were sleeping pills. She used all of them. And the quantity told him as if it was a regular case. This was bad. And now he understood her. Her reaction when she thought she was alone here. Her reaction when she killed Sikandar. Her madness when she killed all those who were in the way of this mission. But he also knew, she didn’t kill for duty rather she killed them for him. Once again, she killed for him. She killed all those who came in the way of his revenge. He wanted to know, know everything, whatever had happened in the last 3 years. And he knew she needed to let it out.

Arjun was sure this wasn’t going to be easy. This girl in his arms, though she wasn’t crying but he knew her better. He knew she was trying not to become vulnerable; she wasn’t letting her guards down and for her to tell him everything he needed to be patient.

Arjun pulled her with him on the bed as he seated while taking the support of the backrest and made her sit between his legs with her face snuggled into his chest. He didn’t say anything, just held her as she cried her heart out in his arms. After crying for almost half an hour, Riya was a bit calmed. She knew he was waiting for her to open up and she too wanted to tell him everything but then she wasn’t sure how should she start; from where should she start. Arjun could feel the wheels turning in her mind yet he didn’t say anything, he left it on her to decide what she wanted to tell first or even what all she wanted him to know. He wasn’t going to pressurize her; he would just support her however she needed him to.

Taking a deep breath Riya snuggled closer to Arjun, at that moment none of them registered what they were doing, they just knew that this was what it was and it was needed for both of them.

Riya: Those medicines which you saw sighs… they are actually prescribed by my doctor. I- I still have that bacterium in me. She held his shirt tightly in a fist again taking a deep breathe while Arjun closed his eyes calming himself so that he could hear everything she wanted to say. As you all had left thinking... I-I had died. I wasn’t dead, sir. I had a blockage in my heart and soon enough it got cleared too. But I was trapped in an organ trafficking scandal.

As soon as Arjun heard that his heart raced, his mind filled with all the dangerous and unwanted scenarios. He so wanted to kill those doctors. They weren’t even meant to be called as one. They wanted to sell the organs of an alive person, that too who hadn’t thought for a single second before gulping down a poison meant for the city, its people which also included them, their families. How much could they stoop low!

Riya could feel the heat rising within him, but she also knew she couldn’t tell him half things. It would only make it difficult for both of them.

Riya: Because I was infected with the bacterium, they couldn’t just take my organs. Hence, they had first started treating me, making me better so that my organs would be healthy enough. Though, they tried but still they couldn’t finish the bacteria from my system. They had thought of me to be weak and helpless. And therefore, they would not be much cautious around me. During one of such times, when the person who was supposed to look after me had fallen asleep and taking the chance, I had used his phone to call you. But those medications and drugs that they used had made me pretty weak and forgetful. I couldn’t remember anyone of yours numbers. Even if I remembered something I would mix all of yours numbers together. At last, I dialed women helpline number and telling them about everything I again went to sleep and the next day all of us who were kept there were rescued by a special team. D.I.G. sir was the one who was leading it and as soon as he saw me, he admitted me away from everyone’s eye, privately, discreetly. I was held captive for a month almost and after that for more or less 10 months I had undergone different medications, pills, drugs, injections, I.V.s and many more. It was painful, both physically and mentally. For nearly five months I was never totally conscious. Then slowly I started recovering, I joined my training again under D.I.G. sir and DCP sir. They wanted to tell you all but then they got a lead regarding Sikandar and I got it. I started to train hard, harder and harder. And then, I was ready. Ready to go into the underworld and meet that devil in disguise.

Arjun heard each and every word with a clear mind and he knew one thing. This woman in his arms would do anything, for him. Yes, she didn’t mention that she did it for him, but he knew. Somehow, he knew it was her decision, her wish. He didn’t know what he should say to her, he felt her pain and he wasn’t at all pitying her. In fact, he was proud of her. And so did he say.

Arjun: You have outdone yourself Riya. And I am happy to say this, I am proud of you Ms. Riya Mukherjee.

And Riya wanted nothing else. Her love was proud of her. He was happy because of her. This was life, she always wished to have.
