Chapter 35

Neha drove towards Maulik's house.. after 25 minits she reached there.. she asked the watchman about Maulik's presence at home to which he told that he had gone to Pune two days ago n not returned yet.. Neha then again tried calling him but the no. was switched off.. she was now confused.. she then goes to Dj's Adda' as she knew that it was the place where she'd find him.. but there too, there was no clue of him.. she then thought he was still in Pune n was joking.. she looked at the watch n time was 11:20 already..she then decided to go home as it would take her atleast 15 minits at whatever speed she drives..

Rawte Mansion

Arjun was sitting in the hall, watching news n sipping his "chai".. the clock struck 11:30.. he smirked.. still Neha was not at home.. after 5 minutes, he picked his cell n was about to call her when he heard the main gates open.. a speeding car came in n stopped with a screeching sound of brakes.. Neha walked in..

Arun - tum 5 minit late ho

Neha - jaanti hu.. ab traffic signal pe nahi rukti to bhi aap daant-te..to rules todne se behtar he 5 minit late hona.. [she lied]

Arjun - you are drunk again? [he did smell the whisky]

Neha - so what?

Arjun - so what..?? Neha.. this is for the last time that I see you coming home drunk.. next time if I find you like this then mind well.. I'll not tolerate it

Neha - you don't need to.. [she started climbing the stairs]

Arjun - ruko.. meri baat abhi khatam nahi huyi he.. [she didn't stop] Neha..ruko..

she went to her room n locked it.. Jun moved his hand through his hair.. angrily..

Aryan was not sleeping yet.. he heard the sound of car n knew that Neha was back home.. he heard Jun shouting Neha's name.. he went downstairs n found Jun there..

Aryan - kya hua Jun? kyun chilla rahe the?

Arjun - bhau.. wo Neha.. wo late aayi isliye use daant raha tha [he didn't tell the whole truth]

Aryan - [shook his head in disbelief] bahot raat ho gayi he..jaake so jao good night..

Arjun - good night Bhau..

Aryan went upstairs

Arjun - sorry bhau.. aapko pura sach nahi bataya.. me jaanta hu ki aapko Neha ki ye aadat bilkool bhi acchi nahi lagegi.

Arjun went to his room.. he lied on the bed thinking..

Baby aakhir ye sab kyu rahi he.. itna rude behaviour.. pehle to kabhi aisa nahi kiya.. n this habit of drinking.. kab se?? n most important.. why?? meri to kuch samajh nahi aa raha..

Neha was in her room.. trying to sleep but sleep was far away from her eyes.. everytime she tried to sleep, Maulik's words kept ringing, "Neha.. pls help me.. mujhe sirf tum hi bacha sakti hu.. me yahan fass gaya hu.. wo log mujhe maarna chahte he.. me unse jyada der tak bach nahi sakta.." "me sach keh raha hu.. sach.. oh no.. they're here.. I need to run.." she almost emptied one bottle of whisky trying to forget it n sleep.. slowly she drifted to sleep under the effect of alcohol..

Next morning..

Neha got up at her usual time.. no matter however late she slept, she'd always wake up early! her head was heavy so she got up quickly n made a black coffee with lemon..

9 a.m.

ESS conference room..

all were sitting n chatting as it there was no case yet..

Aryan - [to Neha who was having coffee] what's wrong Neha?? this is your 4th cup of coffee since morning..

Neha - fifth! [she corrected!]

Manushi - itni jyaada coffee nahi peeni chahiye.. sehat ke liye acchi nahi hoti..

Neha - thank you Ms. Singhania! meri sehat ke liye kya accha he kya nahi ye mujhe pata he.. aur waise bhi me coffee piyu, sharaab piyu ya phir zeher.. tumhe usse kya?

Manushi - me to bas..

Neha - kya?

Aryan - stop it both of you!

he gets a call..

Aryan - team, get ready.. we've got a new case.. [he goes to his cabin where he gets another call]

caller - Rawte sa'ab, ek advice hai aapse,iss case mein gehre mat utariyega...

Aryan - (smiles knowingly) accha...nahi to?

caller - namashkar...(and hangs up)

Aryan opens the drawer, picks up his chain n walks out..

The team reaches the crime scene.. a Jungle.. a man has been shot dead with 7 bullets.. the team searches the crime scene for evidences..after searching throughly they get many clues..

Aryan - body ko autopsy ke liye le jao.. aur in tire tracks ko bhi collect kar lena.. Abhinav iss aadmi ke baare me pata lagao..

ESS office..

The team is discussing the details

Abhinav - Mr.Gyanendra Pandey: Supervising Engineer, Metro City Link project, National Highways. He was working on the project, when he found out that there was a lot of corruption connected with it. So he submitted a complaint to the vigilance office.

Aryan gets a call..

Aryan - team.. we have another case.. our former Home Minister..Mr. Dobriyal's son is missing

Neha - Maulik Dobriyal?? [Neha's friend,MD]

Aryan - haan.. Neha, Rehan tum dono Mr. Dobriyal ke ghar jao aur pata lagao..

Neha n Rehan reach Dobriyal house.. they talk with Mr. Dobriyal...

Rehan - sir, aap please hume saaf-saaf saari baate bataiye..

Mr. Dobriyal - [to Neha] Neha.. beta tum mere maulik ko lekar aaogi na..promise me ki tum use le aaogi..sahi salamat

Neha - dad.. please pehle aap shant ho jaiye..

Mr. Dobriyal - nahi pehle tum mujhe promise karo..

Neha - accha thik he.. me aapko promise karti hu.. me Maulik ko lekar aungi..

Rehan - sir aap.. [he stops as Neha gives him a look]

Neha - dad.. aap mujhe ye bataiye ki Maulik kahan gaya tha?

Mr. Dobriyal - wo Pune gaya tha.. do din pehle.. kal shaam 7 baje wo wahan se wapas aane ke liye nikla tab usne mujhe call kiya tha.. uske baad meri usse koi baat nahi huyi.. meine kaafi baar use call karne ki koshish ki.. par uska no. switched off tha..

Neha - wo akele gaya tha?

Mr. Dobriyal - haan beta.. meine use kaha bhi tha ki Driver ko saath le jaaye lekin usne manaa kar diya aur akele hi chala gaya..

Neha - ok..

Neha n Rehan leave from there..

In suv,

Rehan - tum Mr. Dobriyal ko Dad' kyu keh rahi thi? wo to tumhare pita nahi he.. phir??

Neha - wo kya he ki me aur Maulik bachpan ke dost he.. hum apne friends ke parents ko kabhi uncle-aunty nahi kehte.. ma-papa ya mom-dad hi kehte he.. ab sare q's khatam ho gaye ho to ab kaam ki baat suno.. mujhe Maulik ke call details aur location ki details chahiye.. ASAP

Rehan - ok..

ESS office..

They question Gyanendra's driver who says that he was to come by the train at 9, but by the time he went to the station at 9.15, he couldn't find his boss and thought he had left...

The Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Baldev Yadav, comes to see Aryan about the case...he tells him that Gyanendra was workin on a Metro City lead project wherein he had exposed corrupt officers and politicions,and had written a letter to him about it...and now,others had come to know of the letter...

Aryan - but how?

Baldev - I don't know...

Aryan - u don't know...?

Baldev - shaayad who leak ho gaya...

Aryan angrily gets up

Aryan - shayad leak ho gaya? Ek insaan...apni jaan jhokim mein daalke, apne system ki corruption ko fight kar raha tha, aur aapne uske effort ko itna lightly le liya? Aapke carelessness ki wajah se uski jaan chali gayi...aur aap kehte hai shaayad leak ho gaya?

Baldev - I really feel sorry about this.. ye ek confidential report he.. shayad aapki iss case me help karegi..

Baldev leaves..

Abhinav - Chief.. meine Gyanendra ke friends se baat ki.. sab kaafi dare huye he.. lekin unme se ek he Rohit Mishra.. wo off the record kuch kehna chahta he.. he's in interrogation room

Aryan - off the record! Shaina nahi hai interrogate karne ke liye...otherwise the guy would've spilt his guts out...! [he goes to the interrogation room]

Abhinav - Shaina?? ab ye koun he?? [he doesn't know her!]

Interrogation room..

Aryan - Gyanendra jinhe expose karna chahta tha unke naam batao..

Rohit - me nahi bata sakta.. mujhe meri jaan bahot pyari he..

Aryan - agar naam nahi bata sakte to aap yahan aaye kyon? Why are you wasting our time?

Rohit - Gyanendra mera bahut achha dost tha..lekin yaha aane ke baad mere biwi bachon ke chehre mere saamne ghoom rahe hai..

Aryan - Dekhiye..dhamkiyan hume bhi milti hai..dar hume bhi lagta hai..lekin iska matlab yeh nahi ki sab apna kaam chodke baith jaye! Agar sab aapki tarah sochne lage to phir democracy, law and order, adalat, in sab ka kya matlab hai? Phir to har aadmi ko criminal banna chahiye.. phir to gunda raaj karega..!! [he then leaves the room]

Aryan goes to his cabin and opens the confidential report... he checks all the names and is totally shocked...

Aryan - my God..isme to politics aur construction business ke who's who ka naam hai...this is gonna be difficult..[he gets a call just then..same caller]

Caller - Rawte sahab...hum aapko jaante hai...lekin aap hume nahi jaante...

Aryan - hallo..is galat fehmi mein mat rehna..main tumhe aur tum jaison ko bahut achhi tarah se...

Caller - galat faimi to aapko hai.. system se panga nahi liya jaata..

Aryan - take ur bloody system..and shove it up your...

Caller - namashkaar...!

by that time, Neha n Rehan are back after their investigation.. Neha goes to meet Aryan..

Neha - kya baat he Bhau.. aap bahot pareshan lag rahe he..

Aryan tell her about the call..

Aryan - now we will solve the case!

Conference room..

All were discussing the case..

Aryan - Maulik is missing.. so is he kidnapped? I mean ransom ke liye koi call?

Rehan - no Chief,lekin Maulik ki call details se bahot interesting baat pata chali he.. [cut in mid by Aryan]

Aryan was reading the call details when he saw the last call made by Maulik..

Aryan - ye no. Neha.. ye tumhara hi no. he na? [Neha nods] what did he say?

Neha tells about the call..

Aryan - itni important detail.. tumne pehle kyu nahi batayi?

Neha - I was not sure..

Aryan looks at her angrily.. Neha looks down..feeling guilty..

Aryan - [takes a deep breathe] unn tyre-tracks ka kya hua?

Manushi - [draws the route on board] according to these tracks, Gyanendra was travelling out of the route.. as to where we found his dead body..

Neha - may be he was in taxi?

Abhinav - no.. that's not possible.. no taxi from the city is missing..

Rehan - Maulik was travelling on the same route..

Aryan - there must be relation in both these cases.. what about the checkposts?

Abhinav - nothing..

Aryan - questions...questions...na Gyanendra ka case solve ho raha hai...na Maulik ka... ek officer apne system ki corruption ko expose karna chahta hai...aur use maar diya jaata hai... ek baccha apne ghar laaute waqt achanak se gayab ho jaata hai.. aur hum kya kar rahe hai?...(smiles sarcastically..) kuchh nahi! Nothing at all..!

a little later..

Aryan - give me the autopsy report..

he reads the report.. according to it the bullets were shot at 9 p.m. but he died at 2 a.m. as the wounds started repairing..

Abhinav - Chief, gyanendra ki raat 9 baje ki train ki koi booking nahi thi.. wo to shaam ko 6 baje hi aa gaya tha..

Aryan is depressed when he gets another threat call...

Caller - Rawte sahab...mujhe baar baar samjhane ki aadat nahi hai...behtar yahi hoga...aap is case ko chhod de...

Aryan - (yells) aaey! Sun meri baat! Elite Special squad is case ko chhod de.. Taaqi yeh case system ke hi kisi enquiry commission ke paas jaaye..aur results aate aate.. nahi! Aisa nahi hoga...Aryan Rawte aisa hone nahi dega... tujhse jo ban paata hai na...tu kar le! (and he hangs up)

The phone on Rehan's desk rings...it's the kidnappers ransom call for 20 lakh rupees... After the call, Aryan is not convinced...

Aryan - koi bahot desperately yeh prove karne ki koshish kar raha hai ki yeh dono cases separate hai... guys ...is waqt subah ke chaar baj rahe hai...never in my whole life, have I seen a ransom call at 4 in the morning..aur mange bhi to kya..sirf 20 lakh rupaye?

Neha - I know who can help us.. "Brandy"

Aryan - what??

Neha - lets move..

Aryan - where?

Neha - to hell.. now just come before it's too late..

all settle in the SUV.. Neha is driving like maniacs.. she reached Maulik's house in 20 minutes..Aryan kept asking her but she didn't reply him..

watchman - kya baat he beti.. itni raat ko tum yahaan?

Neha - Brandy kahan he? use jaldi se lekar aaiye..

watchman - thik he..

he goes n brings a big well-built muscular German Shephard dog.. in his neck is a silver chain with "Brandy" written on its pendent.. Neha goes to him n caresses his head

Neha - chal mere Brandy.. tere Maulik ki jaan ka sawaal he..

she makes him sit in the suv n then they go to the place where it was Maulik's last location.. from there they reach the hideout with the help of Brandy.. they find Maulik kept in a small room.. his hands n legs tied.. he was a bit tortured too.. there were only two people guarding him.. they were arrested..

Maulik then tell them that he had seen the crime taking place.. he was really shocked to see it n ran for his life.. n meanwhile he managed to call Neha for help.. but before he could tell her they caught him..

Aryan - unn logo ko pehchan sakte ho?

Maulik - haan..

Aryan - sketch artist ko bulwao aur unke sketch banwa lo..

After the sketches are made, Aryan and the others realise that the culprits are Baldev Yadav,Chief Vigilance Commissioner and Rohit Mishra, Gyanendra's so-called friend...

Aryan - come on guys...lets get the b*****ds...!

Aryan, Abhinav, and Rehan nab the culprits..who threatens to get back at Aryan and ruin his career..

Neha hugs Maulik n says sorry..

Maulik - what?? sorry? ye kab se hone laga madam??

Neha - idiot! sorry to tumhe kehna chahiye.. tumhari wajah se pichli do raato se soyi nahi hu mein!

Maulik - meine thodi na kaha tha.. sona mat!

Neha - call karke dara bhi to diya tha.. kaise so jati?

Maulik - do shot laga leti whisky ke.. bahot acchi neend aati he.. tumhe to pata hi hoga..

Neha - puri do bottle pi thi.. phir bhi neend nahi aayi..

Maulik - to ab isme me kuch nahi kar sakta..

Neha - wo bhi he..

Maulik - waise Brandy ko akele laayi.. Rummy kahan he?

Neha - ab use thodi na disturb karungi? I know she's pregnant [Rummy is Brandy's wife.. another German Shephard!]

Abhinav - kutto ke naam "Brandy" aur "Rummy" aise bhi hote he? mujhe to nahi pata tha..

Rehan - hone ko to kuch bhi ho sakta he yaar!

Maulik - ye Singhania [Manushi] yahan kya kar rahi he?

Neha - that's none of your business.. come.. let's go..

Maulik - no.. ise to mujhe bahot accha jawab dena he.. usne jo kuch bhi kiya uske baad..

Neha - nahi.. tum kuch bhi nahi kahoge.. chalo yahan se..

Maulik - lekin..

Neha - kaha na.. chalo yahan se.. [she drags him out]

team then went back to their homes as it was quite late..actually early.. 6 a.m. already!
