A Coherent Codicil!
Part-4:
I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather. Not screaming in terror like his passengers.
Jim Harkins.
"Why did you go there?"
"I said I didn't!" He retorted at that.
"Think twice!"
"Why do I feel that I'm being set up here?"
"Then how your finger print got there?"
He was dumb bounded at that.
"Impossible!"
"Did you meet him that day?"
He was silent for a moment.
"Yes! Actually No!"
"Well?"
"I didn't meet him, but his dead body."
"Go on!"
"He said he was going to the hotel that evening and asked me to meet him there. When I went there, I saw his body and was shocked. I thought that would make problems and quietly left the room."
He bent his head in guilty.
"What about the whisky bottle?"
"Which one?"
"Hah?"
"I mean, what are you talking about?"
"The one which had your finger prints."
"I didn't get this!"
"Well, we seized a cap of a whisky bottle inside the elevator!"
"Did you?"
He just stared at him.
"When I left the room, it was lying at the door, I noticed. I took it and left. At the rush, I might have missed it in the lift."
"Didn't you think it could be an evidence for us to reach the murderer?"
"Really I didn't for it was my brand bottle's cap. I thought it could be dangerous to me."
.~.
The lawyer read the will of Mr. Madhunath Sinha and gave a copy to his son. His uncle was there not only was silent, but also shocked to the core.
.~.
"Sir! While clearing the safe deposit box we got this!"
It was a cover.
The letter inside had been started on February, second.
'After I came to know that my son was not our own child and when I realized that my wife kept the truth from me, (I got this from her diaries.) I was furious about everything around me...
... Finally I came out of this now and I'm going to write my final will and this should not be read by anyone before my death.'
.~.
"Why did you kill him?"
"Since I thought he was going to change the will. But-"
"But?"
"He didn't change it. He has written his whole property to my son!"
"Your son?"
"Yes! He is my son!"
He said proudly.
"When my sister last her baby and suffered a lot, I gave her my son. My wife refused it at first, but after my endless persuasion she accepted at last.
"When my sister told not to tell a soul about the matter we agreed. Not knowing this and all, her husband cherished the child.
"Last year after my sister's death, he was restless and his movies too faltered him.
"When he was going through her things, found a diary which said the only child he loved the most was not actually his.
"He told the news to me first. I tried to comfort him.
"As days passed he started doubting my sister. At first, he was not ready to accept whatever I said to reassure him.
"He started shouting at Rohit nearly for everything. Eventually Rohit left the house for more than a month.
"I felt that he was going to change the will that my son would not get anything and my late sister would get ill- name in the society.
"I decided to kill him, as I thought he was telling me everything, but no! I was wrong!
"He didn't tell me that he cancelled the appointment with Mrs. Sylvia Pat. If he had, I wouldn't have tried to set her up in this case. If he had, I would have known about the letter he had lain in the safe deposit ..."
The codicil's remaining part:
'...I was furious on everything around me. I thought everyone was cheating me for years.
'I got to know from her diaries that Rohit was his son (which was written in her diary indirectly), lately and I did some detective work on that.
'I didn't tell this to my brother-in -law and not going to tell him actually! May be some day!
'Finally I came out of this now...'
.~.
"At last, everything is all right, isn't it?"
She asked him cheerfully.
"Yes!" he admitted.
"I told you not to suspect mom. But you didn't understand."
She blamed him.
"Still I don't!"
"Mm!"
"About the link!"
"Oh yes! I wanted you to know that how innocent she was! Without any cloud or windy climate she thought it was an actual rain, right?"
"Usually we don't call it as innocence!"
"What? You! She is your would-be mother-in-law!" She reminded him.
"All right! Fact is accepted!" he yielded.
"You know one thing! We didn't suspect her actually. A room boy saw a man with a bag was moving towards the elevator and heard a clinking glass sound, when the boy turned at the corridor."
She punched his muscular arm hard and shouted in pain, "Ouch!"
He placed a light kiss on her knuckles.
"Still hurting?"
"No! But we can talk about something else!"
"What do you suggest?"
"How about your pony tail?"
-The End-
