The Purgatory MasqueradeChapter : Nine(a)
"If you think you know me, think again."
"Chotu" barked Arjun. "Please drop Ms Anand to her house."
"Ok" murmured Chotu.
"No." Said a shaken Saakshi, confusing the men. "What? Now you don't wanna go home?"
"No. I want to help." Saakshi said, standing upright. "I want to help you find your mother."
"But I don't need your help to find my step mother. So you can leave." Arjun snapped at her.
"Aree... Ajib insaan ho yaar! Abhi toh meri madad mang rahe thhe, aab jab maine haan kardi toh mana kar rahe ho? What's wrong with you mr Rawte?" Saakshi shot back.
"That was five minutes ago. And please don't argue with me Ms Anand." Arjun calmly told her.. Turning his back on her.
Saakshi was almost at the point where she wanted to rip all his gorgeous raven black hair out. But hey, he had some nice hair. She wondered how would it feel to run her fingers through his hair.
Woah..Focus Saakshi, she reminded herself.
"Fine.. But I'll do whatever I can. Not because she's your mother but cause she's my boss too." Saakshi told him challengingly. She held her purse high and walked towards the stairs.
And then, he didn't even give her a second to scream when he swiftly spun her around and pinned her to the wall, knocking her breath out.
"Let go of me!" She trashed and turned but in vein, his grip was too tight.
"You will stay away from this. Do you understand me? Or God help me.. this time I will shoot." Arjun said, furiously; tightening his grip on her upper arms to make a point.
Astonished, Saakshi stared at him. Was this the same man who said he believed her a moment ago? Who saved her a few hours ago?
And she thought there was something more than what he liked to show. She wanted to believe that everything he did was for the greater good.
God.. how could you be so stupid Saakshi? Her subconcious chided her. How could you even think that there must be some reason why in the night he hunts down people and kills them mercily?
How could you trust him? How could you think he might be a hero underneath a faade he dones?
And that made her eyes sting.
Wincing, she bit her lips to quiten the sobs that were threatening to come out.. but the tears deceived her and fell freely... stopping Arjun on his track.
Mistaking her inner turmoil for mere physical pain, he loosened his grip ever so lightly.. and moved away from her.
"You are a jerk!"
He dared not look at her as she ascended the stairs with loud thumps.
He had scared her. And more than that.. he had hurt her and that made something snap inside the heart he had reserved for vengeance only.
He closed his eyes and took a big breath. If scaring her away meant she would be safe..locked in a small cubicle of AR and living her life happily as she deserves to, he would do it again.
He couldn't shrug away the sudden flashes of faces he had lost during last few years.
And he didn't want her to be one of those haunting faces. She's better being away from this.. her innocence needed to be intact for him to believe that there was still something pure existed in this unforgiving world.
But still.. he was sad and he wondered why.
He shrugged, putting on a shirt and a blazer and headed for ETF office. He had other troubles awaiting for him.
-*-*-
So here's a thing about Saakshi.
If you think she'll lay back only because you've put on your "grhhh.. Don't do it, I dare you" face, you are wrong.. Chances are, she'll do exactly what you have asked her not to do in the first place.
As soon as she got home, Saakshi pulled out the spare desktop she kept hidden inside her closet and set it up. Once it was up and running along with her laptop and tablet, she disconnected the primary internet point she used.
She even spent a moment to convey her apologies to her neighbors who used her connection for free wifi.
Soon set up a new connection using a fake identity and bouncing IP. Once she was sure her connection was secure and untraceable, she dug into the police files and borrowed' some of the FBI softwares to help her crack the case.
He should have never asked her to keep away from it.. that too, so rudely. She might be a damsel in distress.. but she was one heck of a stubborn damsel in distress.
