Ch18.

''Vadhu ko mandap mein bulvaya jaaye...''

Dida nodded and asked Rohit,Ravish,Shree and Chotu,along with Antara and Anindita to bring Riya down for the ''Pheres''.

Rohit,Ravish,Shree and Chotu along with Anindita and Antara went towards Riya's room.. As they entered,they were awestruck at Riya's beauty... She was looking divine in that red saree with golden border,draped in the traditional Bengali style,and,also in that red bindi in the middle of her eyebrows... The ''topor'' added to her beauty... Riya looked at them with a big dimple smile plastered on her face... She went towards them and hugged everyone... Rohit-Antara and Ravish-Anindita blessed Riya for her married life... Shree-Chotu also blessed their best friend and took her in a group hug...

Anindita brought in the ''wooden plank'' and made Riya sit there... Antara gave her the ''sindoor daani'' and Anindita handed over the ''paan leaves'' to cover Riya's face... Soo,Riya covered her face with the ''paan leaves'' and the boys' lifted the wooden plank,from four sides...

Antara and Anindita played the conch shells,as Riya was brought down by her brothers',while,Dida,Maashimaa,
Amrita and other married women did the ''Ulu Dhwani.'' the boys' took three rounds around Arjun,who was standing there with the ''Varmala'' in his hand,dressed up in a traditional Bengali groom attire...

''Ab Kanya apni chehre ke saamne se yeh paan ke patte ko dheere se hatake apne honewale Var ko dekhengi... Isse ''Shubho-drishti'' kehte hai..''

Slowly,Riya moved the ''paan leaves'' from the frontside of her face,while,Sameer and Ankita held the ''diyas'' lit. Arjun was stunned to see Riya in this traditional Bengali bridal attire... As Riya's gaze met Arjun's gaze,a light hue of pink tinted her cheeks.. She looked down and blushed... Riya was handed the ''Varmala''...

''Ab Var aur Vadhu ek dusre ko Varmala pehnayenge aur chaar baar badlayenge...isse kehte hai, ''Mala Badal.''

As Panditji said,Riya first put the mala around Arjun's neck,then Arjun put the mala around Riya's neck.Then Riya took the mala from her neck and put it around Arjun's neck and Arjun put the mala,on his neck,around Riya's neck...

After the ''Jaimala'' was done, ''Sampradan'' ritual was done... After that,it was time for ''Kanyadaan''..

Amrita and Col.Mukherjee went up to the dias and completed the ''Kanyadaan ritual''.. As they handed Riya's hand to Arjun, Amrita said, ''Beta,Riya ka khayal rakhna... Aaj se main apni zimmedari tumhe soph rahi hu...''

Arjun promised and said,with a smile, ''Maa,Baba.. Aapki zimmedari ab meri zimmedari huyi... Riya ko main apni jaan se bhi zyada pyaar karunga aur khush rakhunga... Duniya ki har ek khushi usse dunga... Riya ab meri Amanat hai...''

As the ''Kanyadaan'' ritual took place, Antara,Anindita and Maashimaa did the ''Ulu Dhwani'',while,Sara and Ankita played the ''Conch Shell''.

After the ''Kanyadaan'',it was time for the ''Pheres''. Antara brought Mini on the dias and helped her to do the ''Gatbandhan'' of her Pishi Angel and Pesho Moshai... She bent forward and pecked both Arjun and Riya's cheeks. Both of them smiled...

Riya and Arjun stood up,and started taking the ''Pheres'',with Arjun taking the first four ''Phere'' and Riya taking the last three ''Phere''.. Everyone present there showered flowers on Riya and Arjun. As the ''Pheres'' were done,everyone clapped for the couple and they sat down.

''Ab Var vadhu ke maang mein sindoor bhariye.''

Arjun took the pot smeared with sindoor and applied on Riya's maang... Riya felt heavenly,as she felt Arjun filling her maang with Arjun's sindoor... She closed her eyes to feel that moment...

''Ab Var vadhu ko mangalsutra pehnaiye...''

Arjun took the mangalsutra and bent forward towards Riya and tied it around Riya's neck,making her as his legally wedded wife... As he tied the mangalsutra,he bent down and said, ''Welcome to my Life,Mrs.Arjun Suryakant Rawte... Aaj se tum meri ho..''

Riya blushed a deep shade of red...

''Main toh aapki hi thhi aur humesha rahungi...'' Riya said,lovingly...

Everybody showered the newly-married couple with loads of flowers,while Panditji announced them as legally married couple... Arjun and Riya got up and took the blessings' of the elders...
