Chapter XI - Cold Fear

[excuse my mistakes and typos I didn't get the time to edit it]

At that split second all he wanted to do was get up and rip Sikander's heart out, but he didn't even utter a word because Sakshi's life was in danger. He didn't want his dreaded past events to repeat. Sikander kept on mocking him, but he just kept his mouth shut tightly. He could hear her sob and it broke his heart. He didn't want to see her in pain. She had done so much for him, she didn't deserve any of this, and in fact he himself didn't deserve all that pain he had been through. He looked up when Sikander mentioned his brother's suicide. Arjun knew what conversation was coming up.

"It was all because of you and your stupid best friend." Sikander retorted. "All he wanted was Roshini and be part of law enforcement, but you and your friend never let it happen. Now you know how it feels when someone important to you is taken away from you." Arjun had to say something after that.

"It was not our fault. He was selling drugs to students in academy. Rathore warned him, but he never listened. He was a friend so Rathore let him go twice, but when students were found dead because of overdose, Rathore had to do something. So all he did was report him and arrest him. And for heaven's sake Roshini was my wife and he was going psycho on her. So I had no choice, but to put restraining order against him. His suicide was his choice, don't blame it on us." Arjun spat with anger. Sikander punched him with anger and something was tied around his waist and wrist.

"No he wasn't. He never sold drugs. It was all because of you and Rathore." Sikander screamed.

"Stop being god damn ignorant. Go read his reports. Drugs were found in his body, his locker and his room." Arjun barked back at him.

Sikander had no words, but anger was visible in his eyes. Arjun knew no matter what he says there was no way that Sikander would spare them without torture. He didn't even know if they were going to get out of there alive, at least not him. But he had to get Sakshi out of there, no matter what.

She knew he would find her, but she didn't expect that he would come and find her in that way. She didn't expect him to risk his own life in order to save hers. The moment they brought him in she forgot to breathe. She had no hope that she would survive until they brought him. She found a stray of hope. She sighed in relief, but that was not for long. The moment they started beating him, her breath hitched. She screamed for them to stop, but in vain. She was shocked when she witnessed their conversation. She closed her eyes because she couldn't watch him get hurt. She was shocked when she heard what Sikander said next.

"The entire college is depended upon you." He heard him say to Arjun. She was confused what he was talking about. "You are in college's basement. The moment you move your waist to get up, it's going to blow up you, the entire college and your sweetheart." Sikander's eyes averted towards her. She dreaded that moment.

Her eyes widened when she saw Sikander walked towards her with a dagger in his hand. She stiffened in her chair when he came closer. Her breath became rough as her heart started to beat faster. She closed her eyes as fear crawled up her body. Her body turned cold as the fear of death enveloped her. Her body trembled when the cold sharp metal touched her cheek. She held her chair tightly as it traveled down her jaw. It pricked her more as it slid down her neck and stopped right on her collarbone. She jerked when the tip of the dagger nipped her skin.

"We haven't even done anything to her... see." Sikander stared at Sakshi with a simper on his face. "We haven't even tied her. Poor thing is free to go. Oh wait she can't walk. Sorry, is it because of me? oooh I feel bad." He sneered.

Her eyeballs almost fell out of her eye sockets when she felt the sharp metal pierce her near her collarbone. She could feel the warm fluid trickle down her chest as the dagger tore her flesh. She was so shocked and petrified that she couldn't even feel the pain. Her brain stopped responding to coldness and stinging feelings. Her gaze went towards Arjun as her skin turned pale. He was frozen due to shock. She wanted to cry, but her throat was blocking her voice due to fright.

He stopped breathing when Sikander ripped her skin. He could see his past repeating. He felt the same terror, anger and pain when Roshini was stabbed. His body was cover in cold sweat caused by panic and fear. He wanted to scream. He wanted to move. He wanted to kill Sikander, but he couldn't. It seemed as if his whole body was drowned in shock. I need to save her. He screamed in his mind. Speak Arjun... speak god damn it or else you'll lose her. His consciousness provoked him.

"SIKANDER STOPPP." He screamed. "I beg you to stop. Kill me, torture me, stab my heart out, but please leave her alone. Let her go." Arjun pleaded as tears rolled out of his red eyes.

Sikander sneered yet again. This is what he wanted, a pleading Arjun. He leered at Arjun in victory as he begged to him. Arjun might have won last time, but this time it was Sikander who owned the victory... or that's what he thought so. Sikander took his hands off of Sakshi and held up as he laughed. Arjun wanted to move. He wanted to tear Sikander in pieces, but there were thousands of lives dependent on him. He felt helpless and broken. Sikander came towards Arjun and opened his handcuffs.

"Both of you are free and nothing is restraining you guys." Sikander's evil laugh occupied the room. "Look at the sad situation here. I have never seen anyone so free, but yet so helpless. She is untied, but can't walk. You are free to go, but your one step will cost you the lives of all the students and your precious professor you learned from. Yes this is the college you graduated from. Poor Arjun... have fun dying." Sikander was about to get up, but Arjun held his feet and pleaded to let go of Sakshi. Sikander just laughed and pried Arjun's hands off. Sikander and his men got up and started to leave the door.

"By the way don't let the black wire go from your wrist. Or else it's going to trigger the darts on the wall and it'll stab your sweetheart in her heart." Sikander smirked once again and roared while point at the wall opposite to Sakshi. "This is going to avenge my brother when you suffer and starve to death while Rathore will die every single day while blaming you for his precious Roshini's death and regretting that he couldn't save either of his best friends." And Sikander left.

Arjun averted his gaze towards Sakshi and she was still in shock while the blood trickled down her chest. Arjun called her name and soothed her with his voice. She slowly started to sob and finally let it out. He could see her breaking down and it broke him down. He wanted to console her and wrap his arms around her, but he couldn't. They were so close yet so far.

The day passed by and night came and the darkness not only invaded their vision, but also their hopes. The coldness of night froze their bones. He couldn't bear the thought that Sakshi had been in this situation for past few days. He hoped that Rathore had gotten the clue and hopefully he would reach them before death could reach them. He talked to her throughout the night to make her feel safe. He thought about getting out of there and the only way out was to make Sakshi walk. The light seeping in through the hole in corner of ceiling told them that the day had arrived. He talked to her about what he had thought about. She couldn't believe him because she never thought she could ever walk again. He encouraged her. She refused.
