Chapter X: Risked His Own Life
He fidgeted with his phone, almost ripping off the phone case. Crumpled papers were scattered on the table in front of him and he threw another one on it. He tried every feasible place he could think of, but in vain. She was nowhere. It appeared as if Sikander took her and vanished. He had called Rathore three hours ago, but Rathore just disconnected the phone call after hearing what happened to Sakshi. He slammed the folder on the table as he watched Shree trying to track her down, Liza was scrutinizing everything and anything in hope that she would be able to find finger prints or something else in that context, while Aayesha was drowned in the folders and maps that Arjun had barely told her about. Chotu had been calling his khabroos to spread across the city and maybe out of city, in case if the kidnappers had taken her out of the city. The clock was ticking and the only clue they had was that she was kidnapped by Sikander.
Conference room door opened and everyone's gaze averted to it. Rathore was standing there, but there was something different about him. He was worried, but there was no anger in his eyes. He blankly stared at Arjun. Situation was intense and none of the ETF members knew what was going to be the outcome of that moment. They all stood up due to the tension when Rathore entered. He walked right in and stood in front of Arjun. There was the look in his eyes which scared Arjun to death. It was not the anger, but disappointment. Arjun could bear anything except seeing disappointment in his best friend's eyes. He just looked down to the floor instead of Rathore. He couldn't swallow the look on Rathore's face.
"I trusted you with her." Rathore's voice was filled with disappointment. "Every single time I think you are stable enough to take a responsibility, you just blow away whatever trust that I have in you. Just because I am helping you that doesn't mean I forgave you. I have told you many times before you'll be never forgiven, no matter what you do and this is the last time ever that we'll be associated with anything together. I am tired of your mistakes." Rathore concluded and walked passed him.
"This will be the last time, I promise." Arjun whispered.
Aayesha was about to say something, but He shook his head to stop her from saying anything. She just closed her eyes in frustration and nodded. Rathore was updated on everything they knew. Arjun even shed some light on the information he found. Rathore refused to believe at first, but when Arjun showed him proofs Rathore had to believe him; Sakshi's life was on stake and he had no other choice, but to believe him. Arjun took the list he made of the place where Sakshi could be and the entire ETF team got in to two different cars to go. They split in to two teams and searched every possible place, but they failed to locate Sakshi.
Three days went by and they had no clue where she was. Arjun hadn't even said one word. The only thing he ever did was to sit in his cabin and stare at his phone. He knew Sikander was going to call him and this time he was down to offer anything to Sikander, all he needed in return was Sakshi in one piece and alive. Three days that passed by were like a hell for him. Every single moment reminded him of Sakshi. Her melodic laugh, her cheesy smile, her not-so-funny jokes, her fire like anger, her stupid, but valid arguments and her silent love. He was even willing to offer his own life in order to bring Sakshi safely. He ran his hand through his hair as he closed his eyes; the wait was slowly killing him inside. Part of him was losing hope and part of him refused to believe that anything bad happened to her. It was three in the morning when his phone rang.
❤️💔❤️
Rathore entered in the conference room anxiously. He couldn't believe that they were not successful in finding any clue or detail. Arjun was another tension to his already anxious situation. Deep down Rathore still cared. He was worried because Arjun had eaten a little to no meal in past three days. The rare sleep that he had was not anywhere. Rathore sat on the table and once more asked everyone if they were able to find out anything. They all shook their head in distress. Rathore asked if Arjun was still in his cabin, they all shook their heads yet again and reported that they didn't now.
"pagal hogaya hai yeh." Rathore ran his hand through his hair in frustration and anger. "Instead of sitting in the cabin throughout the day and night, he should put some effort in searching for her." Rathore got up and walked towards Arjun's cabin in order to taunt him finally.
When he entered in the cabin, there was no one. That's weird. Rathore thought and walked towards the table. He looked around and he thought maybe Arjun went home, but before he could leave something caught his eye. He turned around and there it was... Arjun's gun. He picked up the gun and there was a sketch under it. He knew right away what happened and where he was.
"Damn it Rawte." Rathore said in remorseful voice.
He dialed his phone and it rang right in that room. Rathore's breath became rapid because he knew where Arjun went. Rathore knew his friend very well. Even though he had been blaming him for years, he was still sure about certain things that his best friend was down to do and at the top of the list was risking his own life. He ran to conference room and they all looked at him with confused expression.
"Shree check all the traffic cameras and security cameras around this area and see if you can catch Rawte in any of them. Liza check his phone records and Chotu go ask the guard if he had seen him leaving the building." Rathore ordered everyone in one go. "And Aayesha run the scan for this person right now and record the every god damn detail you can find about this man."
"But what happened?"Aayesha inquired because she had no idea what was going on.
"I think he made a deal with them. He left without any protection. He didn't even take his gun or phone." Rathore whispered as he sat in his chair. "His life is in risk along with Sakshi. Sakshi will be back safely, but I am not sure about Arjun anymore." At that moment Rathore was inclined to do anything, he was even ready to put his past behind just to have his friend back.
❤️💔❤️
He was blindfolded as they pulled him through the hallway. He could hear them murmur. He concentrated on the voices, but none of them were familiar. They sounded foreign to him. He tried to smell. The smell of the cold hallway was familiar, very... very familiar, but he couldn't remember whose house smelled like this before. He heard them kick the door and it sounded like a wooden door. He tried to touch, but unfortunately his hands were handcuffed. He heard another person's raspy breath. He was thrown in the corner, he winced as his shoulder hit the wall. He heard a gasp and concentrated on it and then a cracked, but a familiar voice hit his eardrums.
"Arjun." He heard her whisper.
His lips cracked in a small smile and sighed. Before he could say a word, he was kicked right in his stomach. It was so sudden that his breath became uneven. After that one blow, he was constantly tortured while he heard her whimper and scream for him in the room somewhere. He was simply lying on the floor without protesting as they kept on hitting him. When the session came to an end, he heard more footsteps. His blindfold was taken away. He opened his eyes slowly even though it felt as if he was dying. His eyes searched for her and there she was in a chair on the other side of the room. Relief washed over his face when he saw she was okay, only her eyes were red. Soon his view was blocked because someone stepped in front of him. He tried to move, but bone-crushing pain rushed to his body. He knew his ribs were broken already. The person sat down in front of him and when he looked at that man's face, he knew right then who it was. He was face to face with his past.
"Kaisa laga raha hai ACP Arjun Rawte?" Sikander blurted as an evil smile appeared on his face.
