Saakshi went out to play in the garden.She was followed by her saheliyaan. She loved being outdoors , feel the wind creating ripples on her clothes,birds chirping,leaves dancing.She loved nature and its offerings.
They decided to play catch-catch with a ball. Saakshi lifted the ball high up in the air and threw it at a girl. The girl caught and passed it on. The fun continued.
Arjun was training his soldiers nearby.He heard loud laughter from the garden and decided to check.
The ball went really far this time,towards the lake?
Saakshi ran behind it.
"rajkumari!rajkumari rukhiye.!" A girl shouted.
"aap matt jayiye main jaungi." Aarti continued.
"par kyun? Kyunki main rajkumari hoon?" saakshi asked.
Arati lowered her eyes but said "ji"
"arati tumhe bata hain gendh humne phek hi thi hum hi le ayenge." "gendh lane ke bah hum rajkumari hi rahenge ...humare ya aapke lane mein koyi farak nahin hain" saakshi said.
Arjun listened to her, clearly impressed by her liberal thoughts.
Saakshi went even after everyone tried to stop her.
"aap janthe hain uss talab ke bare mein? Rajkumari nahi" arati said
"uss talab ke bare mein jaanti hoon main sambhal sakti hoon apne aap ko" she said and walked away.
"ziddhi" arjun whispered with his hands folded.
30 mins passed.Arjun was still there,he really wanted to see if she will come back soon.
"humne kaha tha..ki waha mat jayiye par rajkumari sunthi kaha hain...hey bhagwan hume bohut drr lag raha hain" one of the helper girls said.
"hain kya uss talab mein?" arjun asked.
The girls jumped at his sudden entry.
"ji woh ..wo talab mein katarnak jeev hain jo pane ke bahar aakar logon ko kha jaate" arati said.
"kya bakwaas hain?" arjun replied.
"bakwaas nahin hain...bohut log waha jaakar kabhi laut ke nahin aaye" arati said.
"waha har mahina maharaj jaate hain aur uss talab mein swarn,here,moti, sab samarpith karte hain thaaki wo rakshas kisi ko na mare"
"main jaatha hoon" arjun said.
"rukhiye josh mein aakar aap galathi kar rahe hain" arati said.
"maharaj ne iss swarnabhoomi ki raksha ka kartavya mujhe saupa hain...jab iss bhoomi rajkumari aaj khatre mein hain..tho main piche kaise hatt saktha hoon?" he said and left.
"hume maharaj ko batana hain..yeh dono waapis nahin lautne waale" arati said and rushed towards the palace.
"maharaj sankat ka samay aa chuka hain"
"kya ?what are you saying maharishi?" maharaj asked.
"haan..wo aa gaya hain!" maharishi said with concern.
"yeh nahin HO sakta ! asambhav!" maharaj announced clearly disturbed.
"maharaj rajkumari talab ki taraf gayi" arati screamed panting heavily.
Maharaj got up at once shocked!
"kya??"he said rushed.
"sankat ka samay aa chukka hain..hey bhagwaan iss sankat ko door karne kisi farishtey ko bhejho"
But little did they know that their 'farishta' had already arrived.
Arjun ran into the forest. He clearly scanned everything around him. She wasn't there.
"where the hell are you?" arjun said hitting his fist into a tree. Then he saw a piece of red cloth on a plant.
So she was running fast. But why?
He picked it up and ran in that direction.
"ahh..ahhh..." he heard someone crying in pain.
He looked around to see saakshi lying on the ground with her leg bleeding profusely.
Arjun ran towards her and collapsed on the ground. He pulled her and held her by the shoulder.
"bohut dard ho raha hain..bohut..." she struggled to speak and her voice became fainter with every word that came out of her mouth.
He looked at her exposed leg hesitantly. Saakshi turned away a little embarrassed at a man peeking at her leg. An arrow had pierced through her right knee.
"darro matt main hoon na" he said cupping her face.He didn't know why he did that.He wiped her tears,he felt like he was wiping his tears.
He pulled her onto his lap and said "now m gonna remove the arrow its gonna pain a little but don't worry...nothing will happen to you...i wont let anything happen ... i promise"he said gently.
He looked up at the sky and held the arrow and closed his eyes.
He pulled the arrow out screaming in pain. Why did it cause him pain?he didn't know!
Surprisingly Saakshi didn't scream.She was looking at him all the time. Arjun looked down at her face.
She looked so pale,so hurt. He looked at the arrow. It was poisoned.
