Chapter 4

"Actually Sir, the bottle was taken from her own house. The killer stole it." Sree said. Everyone looked up at him in surprise. "I just got a confirmation of it from the maid when we asked her to verify if any items were missing."

"If that is so, why would the killer take the bottle away? The killer was smart enough to escape the guards in a high security area and left the sleeping pills' bottle on her bed. So, this seems like a rather inconsistent move to me" Rathor said, rocking in his chair.

"The drink was absinthe with high alcohol content. It was diluted a bit with soda and sugar was added along with sleeping pills- around 20 of them, which makes it clear that its not a case of accidental overdose. The bottle of soda was found in the kitchen." Sree continued. "She has about 2 glasses of the drink in her system, which is enough to knock her out."

"Absinthe is not exactly something you would find in every house. It is expensive and not usually consumed by women." Riya muttered. "We found 2 other wine bottles in her house and they are just common ones- not very expensive or intoxicating."

"Perhaps somebody gifted it to her?" Chotu guessed.

"Perhaps the killer gifted it to her." Arjun wondered. "But then, if the bottle was already spiked when they gifted it to her, it would have to be re sealed, not exactly an easy job. If they spiked it with 20 odd sleeping pills, how come Vishakha drank it? You would need time to let the pills dissolve and then serve it."

The possibilities hung in the air, making the atmosphere dense.

"We need to analyze the reasons for her isolation for 3 days. Chances are that it is something very recent as she took a leave for 3 days. We did not find any medicines around her bedside table so for now we can assume it not to be a sick leave." Riya said.

"It could be because of that man the guard told me about. A man of tall build jumped over her wall and entered through the backside window to meet her. When the guard saw him, he rushed inside the house through the main door but Vishakha told him that there is nothing to worry about." Rathor said.

"So this means she was meeting him in secret. Why? He couldn't be her boyfriend, people already know about him. Was she having another affair?" Sree muttered.

"Its possible that somebody was blackmailing her. She was secretive about her personal life and perhaps the man had scared her which is why she did not report it." Riya said, moving to the board to draw the connecting diagram.

"Also, there were no signs of breaking and entering, which implies that she opened the door herself." Chotu said.

"I had a look at the locks of the door. The door doesn't have bolts- just locks which are opened by the key. So anyone with the key could have entered and killed her. Now, who could have the keys to her house? Her maid, her boyfriend and her sister." Rathor said and Riya listed it down on the murder board.

"It could be that man as well. The guard mentioned that he entered through the window without breaking it. I looked around the house and noticed that all the windows were closed with curtains drawn over them except the one through which the man came. It was left open deliberately by Vishakha or the man when he left. If Vishakha left it open, it would be to facilitate his access to the house. If the man left it open, it would be to enter the house again." Arjun concluded.

The team lapsed into a moment of silence which was broken by Riya.

"Lets have a look at those photographs now." she said, taking the packet from Sree and spreading the photos on the table.

getting more interesting and full of suspense with each update😊

Hmm...answers and more questions...

I will have to read next chapter to summarize my thoughts on this chapter too. Cause I know that there will be referencing back to the killer spiking her drink, body position, bit of forensics...

Still, I can see lot of thinking effort going into this one as you have opened a fresh can of worms...

So everything is just a mystery now and everything is pretty jumbled up...but the killer must have left a clue a small one...maybe it'll come out in forensics or a more detailed inspection and a bit more questioning...

Isn't it strange that the girl lives a dual life...she has a boyfriend, friends and a good social circle yet none knows about the intimate details of her life...perhaps the murderer knows or her boyfriend..they haven't questioned him have they ??

Or was she having an affair and this whole suicide cum murder is plotted by her bf ??

Hmm...too many question but no answers..
