I don’t know about US, but in my entire family, not just my own house, all men help in household chores! That’s how we lived thru Covid times too!
I don’t cook at all or maybe just once in a while as a hobby, but my cousin brothers, my own husband does.
I have a few family members in US & UK, I see their insta stories and mostly they divide work day-wise in a week from dropping kids to school to every household chore !
So let’s not generalise or look down upon Indian women! It all depends on family to family, and the willingness to help your partner!
We are quite lucky in India that we get maids and cooks at quite affordable prices than in US or UK where people have to manage everything mostly on their own or call helps from agencies once a week or so, so now its not like those old times where a woman would be working in kitchen and doing household chores all day.
Its very low - survey given in 2023 india
Rural men were also more likely to carry out housework and care giving – at 27.7 percent and 14.4 percent doing so as part of the survey as opposed to 22.6 percent/13.2 percent of urban males. Our parents time was better 90s early 2000 men did more help than nowadays gen men who think all machines are there why should i help?
My own brothers or cousins did not even pick their glass or fold his clothes in bedroom or make his bed etc till they were married all mothers/sisters should do. Nor he brought grocery or paid bills or went to bank he just watched TV and enjoyed at home after college or office. Most of my male cousins or classmates did not do any house work till marriage too and this is in very big metro city. So you can imagine men in rural india who are more patriarchal will they remove a glass too i doubt(I am talking of current gen 15-30 year olds). Yes i agree our parents gen did much more house work and helped too in 90s and early 2000s. Thats because not much machines were there like today or no online so men got up and put some efforts going to buy grocery from shops/malls or going to bank or pulling water from well or mopping and taking care of kids etc but not current gen men or boys(10-25 years) now its easier order on amazon grocery banking online app etc much more easier for men so they hardly do anything unlike prev gen men
While US men do better at house work 17% cook and 32% others help wife
Honestly whether india or USA its a myth that men help just cutting veggies or washing some dishes is not house work or washing car and removing snow from lawn etc the back breaking job done by woman like sweeping, mopping, full cooking, cleaning of kitchen, washing utensils, washing bathroom tiles, cleaning glass windows, removing dust from doors and windows grills etc and bathing kids or caring for kids and elders at home. Apart from this they work 8 hours in office if USA and 10-12 hours in india
Men only do 10-20% work and start saying we do house work while 80% is done by women only if you think real amount of work at home
In covid men did work because 2 months 3 months inside house cannot go out so bored so some help they did i guess like hobby
