There is fine line between doing a fictional role and living one's life.. when you fail to separate these two roles, audience have every right to point out the hypocrisy of these preachy actors!

Let's talk about RG (Rupali Ganguly). Rupali is the daughter of a powerful and well know man, Anil Ganguly. She married late, and she proudly said...she got husband like Sahil (Sarabhai's Character) who takes care of her every need. She described herself (everyone who know her said the same) clumsy and careless like Monisha who doesn't like/know domestic work and she is a bad cook.

She is very proud that his husband is taking care of their son and he is handling domestic front so that she gets to shine in her career. She said she was never ambitious and only wanted to settled down (to marry someone and have a child) in her life, which she did successfully.

She has this fairly tale like story...where so many women just want to do the same and want the love and support of their families.

She spends too much time on social media. So much so that everyone pulls her leg because she is always on her Instagram. She spends too much money on useless items, she herself admitted in one of her IVs that she is shopoholic.

Anyway... It is her personal life and she has every right to live her life as she pleases.

But as Anupama... She doesn't just play a fictional character, she became a preacher and talk about issues she never faced and pretends to be someone who she is not. Here, too, she has every right to do her job but she has no right to moral police others, cross the line and forget she is just a fictional character.

Imagine having a profession, where you bad mouth everyone, preach something you don't follow in your real life. You earn money by creating disturbances in others life while living your best life!!!

Talk about hypocrisy at its best.

So, that is also why people shouldn't take these TV serials very seriously. But sadly our mothers take it by heart.

I sometimes wonder if the actors/actresses know the amount of trolling & hate that is spewed on the characters that they enact everyday. How would they feel? Does it bother them enough to take any steps? I guess not! smiley24

I have only seen them acknowledging the accolades that they get.

There have been enough regressive and caricaturized shows on ITV for me to care about their problematic portrayals and messages.

The problem with Anupamaa is the kind of PR the makers are doing for it, calling it a flagbearer of empowerment because the middle aged female protagonist dared to divorce her cheating partner and also found love again.

Even when Vanraj and Kavya were completely negative, SP and MS used to give media statements on how their characters are relatable and need to be sympathized with.

The PR of the show is extremely problematic.

This is the exact reason why it is so infuriating. A wolf in sheep's clothing. Show whatever you want to without claiming otherwise.....and to this extent. And this crap being termed 'empowering' is the biggest disservice. Considering the reach of this show, they have actually done a lot of damage by propagating their regression.

Thats why mumma papa say study beta, get education, complete your degrees and become either doctor, engineer or any professional corporate person. Do not become an actor as there are no bigger hypocrites in the world than actors and movie people. They play characters that they dont believe in just for the heck of it just to sustain life.

I have only seen them acknowledging the accolades that they get.

They don't even see it. And they're happy as long as people are talking about their show/characters. This makes them happy as any publicity is good publicity. They only hate personal attack on them.

And I also happen to think one should refrain from attacking someone based on personal grudge.

As much as I hate trollers, I also hate these celebrities because they acknowledge their own hurt (when trollers do that) but they don't care if they are hurting someone through their work. Also, trollers waste their time by indulding in cyber bulling. In that sense, they are punishing themselves. But these actors earn millions while they are not just playing these problematic characters, they are manipulating the minds of already troubled population.

So, their plights make no sense.

I don't know whether I should say this or not but still I want to say two things

first, why these days girls take so much pride in saying that they don't know anything, I am a girl but still, what is wrong is wrong, I admit that I don't know the domestic work as my parents never let me do that, but I am not proud at this, I admit that I need to learn these things, it is not about girl or a boy, but I am saying that what's there to be so much proud of this fact, can you imagine a man saying that he is a nalla berozgar, no matter what is the gender, but everyone should know how to do at least the basic chores, what's there for RG to be so proud about this as the TM said above that RG said ki she doesn't know domestic work, she is a bad cook, she is clumsy, she is careless, her husband takes care of their son and all the domestic work etc etc etc.

Now imagine the same thing said by a man, suppose if a man would have said that, He doesn't like to earn, his wife does all the domestic work, she takes care of their son/daughter, he is very careless and clumsy, if he would have said that he had a fairy tale like story where he has imagine his wife to do all the domestic chores and take care of his family and he just likes to do work of his interest. What if he would have said that he loves to spend the time on IG or FB and likes to just chat with people and time pass there, what if he would have said that he loves to spend time on useless things, as said by RG who is a female. Just imagine all this said by a male.

I believe that most people would have said what a useless, toxic and abusive man he is, when we demand for equality toh equal bano naa, plus RG is a celeb, what she is saying usko kitne log as it is follow kar lenge, they will not even think that she is from a powerful and rich background toh unka chal gaya, but this is not possible in a middle class family.

second, I don't believe that anyone should be criticized for playing any character even though they don't believe in that character or that doesn't matches with their personalities until and unless it it is not obscene and amounts to public indecency.

However, I also believe that they should not justify that role in any way, they should not try to pretend that they relate to the character, playing a particular role is not a problem, but justifying that character is a problem and here RG is wrong.

She is justifying Anupama's character as if all women should behave like her only, this is wrong, Manisha was a comic character (I haven't watched that show) but if she was really that clumsy then she should not be followed in real life, her character can give a comic relief but if clumsiness, carelessness etc are her real traits then it should not be followed in real life by any gender.

For those who don't like to read big big paras

I'm uncertain whether I should express these thoughts, but there are two points I'd like to address.

Firstly, I've observed a trend where some women take pride in claiming ignorance about certain things. While I acknowledge that I, as a girl, am not well-versed in domestic tasks as my parents don't let me do any work, I don't consider this something to be proud of. Learning basic chores is essential for everyone, regardless of gender. Imagine a man proudly declaring himself jobless, relying on his wife for all domestic responsibilities – such a statement, he would likely be met with criticism. Equality implies equal standards. Moreover, as a celebrity, RG's statements may influence many, but she should know that what she is speaking, not just she, but every celeb should realize what they are saying, her privileged background allows her certain liberties that might not be feasible in a middle-class setting.

Secondly, I believe individuals should not face criticism for portraying characters incongruent with their personalities, as long as the role is not obscene or indecent. However, justifying and promoting such characters is problematic. RG, in justifying Anupama's character, implies that all women should conform to such behavior, which I find incorrect. Characters like Manisha, even if comedic on-screen, shouldn't be emulated if their traits are detrimental in real life, irrespective of gender.

The most annoying thing is that she says that Anupama is perfect but herself is complete opposite of her in real life. She is encouraging the audience to learn things from while herself doing exact opposite in her personal life.

Even SP must be called out for his overglorification of his character.
