In the recent interview CP said she copied Priyanka chopra's gestures from Aaitraz movie while playing Maya's role.(Cv's should have given her the track "i want to make love to you"-we missed it.).If the actors are fine in doing such roles.why we r fighting for these fictional chars?

I dont know how many times it needs to be explained that people copy popular shows and this affects real women in real life who are victims. NOT fictional but REAL people.

So people who are complaining are people who have empathy

Why should actors who get paid lakhs complain? Because they get some hate comment?. Shows like this ruin the life of poor women in real life. Care about them and not the pampered actors

This... this is the exact reason... on top of this they proclaim repeatedly that women should take inspiration from this. Like, inspiration to do what? Become a doormat? If you are going to show such things (as those that are being shown), don't encourage or promote it as close to reality or real life. If you want vamps, don't give them such brutal backgrounds. That increases social stigma and erases progress.

Exactly this! If they wanted to raise awareness on "social issues" they could have introduced characters who do small cameos for like a week and leave. And kept Maya and Dimpy as vamps with a different background.

I have seen so many comments on social media saying Dimpy deserved this to happen to her, no wonder her husband left her etc. when he left her simply because she was raped and that's disgusting. And Maya as well, lots of insults were directed towards prostitutes and how no one should help them so it's not as if such messages by a supposed women empowerment show don't influence people. We may know better but there are people who get influenced by such shows and when they already have that regressive mentality, this reinforces that idea even more.

It's not even about whether they are the main character or supporting characters. They are anyway being given a certain amount of screen space, why not utilise that responsibly? If you give them a good ending or a different backstory, their screen space won't suddenly increase and Anupama's importance won't come down. If your main character is so weak that showing other empowered women apparently takes the story or focus away from her, that's the real problem and maybe they should work on that.

Ppl associated with show say such things to promote their show.

But ppl r educated n no one is a fool to take daily soaps so seriously.

Ekta Kapoor started "aadharsh bahu" concept in 2000 n it's 2023 n it's not like any woman became "aadarsh bahu" n became detective spying on family members n solving their issues. Infact daily soaps r meme n joke material.

Nowadays women hardly take abuse from husband n in laws n r quick to file case n parents too r supportive.

But yes victims turning into vamps was horrible to watch..

I might have said this earlier - the problem with Indian visual media in general (TV soaps) is that the makers pick good social problems but fail when it comes to solutioning them. I strongly believe that this media has a larger reach into the deep rural pockets of the country. So, it is my opinion that the message sent must have a positive impact across all levels and not otherwise.

Also, I can understand that endorsing the show, promoting their chars is part of an actor's job, but how far should the actor go to do that?

In our daily lives, if someone asked me promote and encourage regressive ideas what should I do? Does my conscience allow me to do that? It does not.

You are overestimating the education part......the reach for the ITV is huge now....going to even remote villages.....and small towns where women are not that empowered yet..........women in small towns are still abused and harassed for dowry........there is a reason why a shitty show like Anupama is still maintaining the TRPs........there is a large number of people who just don't get the harm this show is doing and how regressive it is.......how else do u explain some comments on Dimpy and Maya that they deserved what happened to them?? How?? How can anyone say that a woman deserves gang rape or deserves to be a prostitute??

It's nothing like ppl in small towns follow tv soaps religiously n get educated from tv soaps. Girls everywhere have became quite empowered.

India is backward in infrastructure but population have became quite advanced both positively n negatively. Girl aged 13-14yrs from small towns have boyfriends n r quite modern n ambitious n some can even say gold diggers. More than tv it's mobile phone which is modernizing ppl.

Dowry Harassment n domestic violence is reality but filing fake cases of domestic violence n dowry too is reality. Position of women in indian society has changed a lot. From female foeticide to many ppl even wishing a baby girl n from not educating a girls to father's getting house mortgaged to get their daughter's higher education. I have seen all.

Ppl hate dimpy n Maya because they turned into vamps n it's more of a fan girling n these fans also know that Maya n dimpy r not real ppl. I don't think same ppl will say these things to real life victims.

Ppl even abuses n threaten cricketer's daughters when they lose match. We can't conclude anything from that.

And It's not like before anupama, real life ppl were bringing strangers in their home. Maximum help general public do is inform police, family n NGOs.

Some ppl watch it out of habit n aunties like it for dramatic content. If makers make it true to real life n show practical things it will lose TRP. Indians love drama n that's why saas bahu shows became such an instant hit with masses n is still continuing. Sony tv shows have less saas bahu content n hence have less TRP.

And no women in India is like a TV serial bahu..hardly anyone wants to live with inlaws leave the question of living with ex in-laws..

Yes only maaya character I find irrelevant but baaki character positive or negative because story demand it

bold - I understand story demands a negative character to add drama and a positive character to bring relatability.

But story does not demand a traumatic back story wala person forcefully to be made negative…that’s a call makers took and which in a lot of our opinion was careless. A lot of people see this show, so showing rape victims and sex workers or women who’ve are living with husband’s who have cheated in the marriage in bad light when they have already dealt with a lot of issues was not something the story demanded. Dimpy could have been someone Samar met and due to Anupama’s interference with DA, she could have shown as she turned negative. Barkha too could be shown negative without showing she has a stepson. No one would complain then.

It’s poor writing. We can defend it…but reality is all the recent tracks lead to everyone glorifying/praising/saying Anupama is great.
