I get your sentiments totally as i am also strong believer of hindu dharma and all the sanskaars it has mentioned.

I am totally against the ridiculing of all religious practices just because modern science doesn't believe or confirm it. But at the same time I am also not the one who will turn blind eye to scientific discoveries or expert advice given by doctors.

And its an established fact that putting honey or ghee on new born's tongue can be dangerous to baby's health. So we should follow a middle path between ritual/religious belief and doctor's advice.

I liked how @sweet_tania told us about her experience. They performed the ceremony but also didn't disregard doctor's advice. So something like this should be done.

In my family there is also similar kind of ceremony but its not done in hospital itself so its already ensured that baby's first feed will be of mother's milk and nothing else. Then baby is brought into house and a pooja is held there panditji bless baby and put honey in baby's mouth. When my nephew was born we held the same pooja and when panditji wanted to put honey we politely said no and explained him the reason behind it. So he just blessed the baby and symbolically offered the honey to balgopal of our temple. That's how we performed it. Elders also supported it. No one's sentiments were hurt and we also completed the ritual.

That’s exactly why what was shown was so alarming .... Already in India despite best efforts by NGOs , Govt , local health workers to spread awareness on this issue , the elders in many families still go against dr’s advice and feed honey etc to the baby ( it’s not just a ritual restricted to a particular state , almost all parts of India across religions believe in some form of this custom ) ... And we know a huge percentage of TRP audience is older generation, so showing this on national television is equivalent to spreading misinformation and promoting a malpractice...

I understand dear you did what you thought was best for the baby under the circumstances, luckily you had the knowledge and conviction to stand against your elders ... But this is on the case with majority ..Against the parent’s wishes also the elders try to do the ritual , citing reasons like “ hamare bacchon ko kuch nahi hua , doctors toh sab aisi hi bolte hain “ ... New moms , often overwhelmed and fatigued with stress of labours , are often not in a state to stand up to them ...

That a TRP topper show would promote a wrong practice, when they had the perfect opportunity to spread right information is highly disappointing ...

Anyway no worries , 2-3 days mein after backlash humein breastfeeding pe 50 panno ka Bhashan Milne wala hai as compensation

Or may be they are maan fans but just fed up the way anuj is being tortured every now and then by anupama ji and shah wasis. So they are creating this fake hype of anuraj so that makers will be forced to give anuraj as end game and our beloved anuj will be set free from this pagalpan.

Wo Anuraj fan nahi hain wo Anupamaa ke fan hain jinhe Anu ka har act sahi lagta h aur unke paas uske har act ka justification hota h aur jo aisa ni karte wo toh unke dushman ban jaate hain.

Smritis and shrutis as the name itself suggests are no conclusive, 100% authentic written affirmations of hindu dharma. And besides this, a ritual or ceremony is always done for the "bhavarth" behind it more than the physical performance.

So according to me if someone believes in the ritual and changes it in some way for it to more comfortably fit according to his life, beliefs, medical science then i dont think there is anything wrong in it.

And anyways what is written in the smriti cant be done practically as doctors wont allow anyone with sone ki katori filled with honey while they are cutting umbilical cord. And how will poor family even afford sone ka katori in the first place.

So yes there are lots of things mentioned in religious texts but there is nothing stops us in using some brain, common sense and also modern scientific discoveries to make our and our loved ones life better.

It is written ki ya to golden spoon se ya right hand ki ring finger se yeh karte hain but isme karne ke saath havan and vedic mantra bhi bolna chahiye yeh description hai

Yeh isliye kiya jaata hai kyonki jub baby jub paida hota to uske body mein bahut dosh hote hai like vaat pita kaf baby ks khoon saaf nahin hota to aise khoon ko saaf karne ke liye yeh kiya jaata

Aur honey aur ghee ki odd quantity mein mix kiya jaata yeh medicine ki tarah diya jaata hai aur phir havan karne ke baad log bhagwaan se pray karte hain ko bacha swasth rahe lambi aayu jiye aur intelligent ho

But yeh sub bina, proper vidhi karna dangerous hai
