Well I might be in the minority but I loved that interview wala part the most....the dialogues and everything between Zain and Anuj gave me such realistic and professional vibes

Also the suspense element in your story is so perfectly balanced

I never felt irritated for a second and neither did I feel that it's being stretched

You know thrillers and suspense is my favourite genre and you fulfilled my andar ki pyaas for such writing👏

Part 6

As I was about to begin my one on one showdown with Mr.Egoistic when I suddenly received a call from Samar and I thought it wise to give him preference over his father so I picked it up and I think I lost track after he said "Mom is awake and she is asking for you". I didn't want to hear anything else for the past two weeks and it finally happened. Relief spread over me as if I was blessed with a new soul and I dashed towards the hospital without another glance at anything in my way. I had my destination fixed and there was nothing more important.

I almost hop skip jumped to her room with a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers. As I opened the door I saw her surrounded by Bapuji, G.K, Samar, Pakhi, Kinjal, Nandini and Samar all with smiles as broad as their jaw itself and they were merrily filling her in with all the things she had missed over the past few weeks. As their attention drove towards the opening door they all gave me an appreciative glance and silently left giving us some privacy which I gladly accepted. From the moment I entered the door her eyes never left mine and looking at me I could see her visibly brighten and I was more than certain that I did too. I walked towards her and sat on the chair beside her bed while handing her the bouquet and keeping the chocolated on the bedside. I held her other hand wispering in my softest voice "Anu".

That was all I needed to say for us to break, she immediately wrapped both her arms around my neck and I snaked my arm around her waist pulling her as close as I could without pulling any wires that were still attached to her. I moved one of my hand towards her head and started caressing it. We both had tears in our eyes, tears of both happiness and longing that we felt in the timespan that we were seperated. It seemed almost an eternity later that we pulled away that we both wiped each others tears and we simultaneously asked the same question. "Tum/Aap theek toh hai na". We both let out a chuckle and nodded in response.

" Do you even know how much I missed you. I though I couldn't breathe when I saw you in that state. You have no idea how these two weeks have been for me. You idiot, how many times should I tell you that I cant bear your silence and you gave me just that for 2 weeks straight. It was almost as if I was given food but no nutrition from it. Dont ever do that to me again. Plsss." I said as I rested my head on her lap.

"I know Anuj and I am sorry I took so much time to come back to you. But look at me, I am here right beside you as I promised. I wont leave you not for the world. Trust me" Anu said running her hands through my hair with a small smile on her face.

"I missed you, I missed you so much my jaan."

"I know me too" "Look here plsss Anuj"she said pulling my face up from her lap to bring it in front of hers, she wiped my tears and said in a comforting voice. "Plsss dont cry, I know how much it must have hurt you but plss dont cry. I cant see you like this not when I am here. Smile! plsss for me and no matter what just know that I love you and will always love you till my last breath. Even if everything dwindles even then you would be the best thing that ever happened to me and I can never be thankful enough. Seeing you like this makes my heart bleed and I know you dont like it when I cry. So plsss dont cry for this anymore, I am here and I promise I wont go anywhere." She said to try and calm me as much as she could and I would be lying if I said I wasnt convinced.

I wiped my tears and whispered "I love you so much' against her ear and kissed her forehead before taking my place back at the seat beside her.

"I love you too. But how did this happen ?, I saw you were hit by those goons and I didn't know what to do, then I fainted but when I opened my eyes, you were not there so I panicked and then Samar came in and hugged me and told me everything. Are you okay, are you hurt?" she said in one breath while checking me for bruises. I was sometimes amused at the speed this woman could speak in and be concerned at the same time

"Calm down Anu, I am as fit as fiddle. See! You just woke up and you should rest, so much stress is not good for you. I will tell you everything later. Right now you just need to focus on getting well soon and getting discharged from here as soon as possible so you can come back to me. My bed feels very lonely these days and I can't wait for you to come back" I said placing my hand on her cheeks.

"I dont want to be here anymore that you do. Take me home plsss, I miss our bed too because it smells like you and most importantly this hospital smell is killing me. The food they have is no better" she whined with a pout. I just couldnt resist myself and moved ahead to capture her lips in mine. It began as a slow soft kiss and then became urgent as we proceeded. I was about to move my hands behind her head for better access when we were broken apart by a knock on the door indicating that our time together was over. I sighed in exasperation and asked whomever was outside to come in. Anu just chucked at my state while adjusting her racing nerves and beating heart. A nurse came in with food and medicine and asked me to feed and take care of her. I immediately took the plate while I saw the others enter gradually file in to ask about her health and say their goodbyes. As I fed her, we talked about all the things that I did when she was asleep, I conveniently skipped the Vanraj part because that was only for me to know and react on there was no need for her to know what I did and. Even if she comes to know from someplace else I know how to handle the situation so I didnt mention it to her anyways I didnt want to worry her with this information. I just spent some quality time with her before I received a call from Zain. It was almost 11 and office hours were way past so I wondered what coaxed him to call me at this hour.

Hello Zain, is everything fine ?

Yes Anuj, its just your guest who refuses to move from here untill he has his word with you.

I sighed as I didnt want to leave Anu especially when she was fiannly awake and that too to see him, but it had to be done so I had to go

Zain must have heard me as he said, You know I could always just fling him on my shoulder and throw him out myself. Now that I say it, it sounds rather exciting he said.

Sure I would love you to do that buddy but not not so quick. I think its better I just talk with him for now but you can have your fun with him while I arrive. I could almost hear the smirk in his voice as he gladly obliged.

I laughed at his suggestion because I was almost certain he would have thrown him out with the flick of his finger if I hadnt stopped him. I saw Anu ask me who I was talking to. I showed her the caller ID and she smiled asking me to give the phone to her.

Zain bud, your bhabhi wants to speak to you I said

What! Bhabhi is awake and you didnt even tell me Anuj. Thats no fair he complained.

She woke just a few hours back and I myself was shocked, anyways here you go I said handing the phone to Anu while I asked her to keep it on speaker.

Bhabhi! How are you ? You took a nice long vacation this time, didnt you?

I am fine baccha. Took a good break but now you tell me how are you and did you take care of Anuj and yourself while I was gone ?

I am fine Bhabhi, no worries. He was difficult to handle but its ok, I am used to it by now, nonetheless he is harmless. But the fact is that we both missed you in office.

Anu laughed at that and said. Sorry yeah, I should not have left him alone with you. Anyways I miss office too, you can come and visit sometime and give me all the updates too.

Sure, there is this one little thing that I am busy with right now but dont worry now that I know you are back I will be there tomorrow morning. I will bring your fav jalebi if you want.

Sure, I am waiting. Bring another set for my husband or else I wont get them.

Always, he said laughing.

Anuj interrupted with mock anger. If you both are done then I am still here just by the way. Anu dont you have rest to take and Zain dont you have work to do, so chop chop back to work and you can talk all you want tomorrow, ok? Bye! I said hanging up.

Anu looked at me with a glare. Are you serious Anuj, you gave him work at this hour. Give him a break, I know he must have managed the work while you were here with me so you could just ask him to take a half day atleast.

Dont worry Anu, he is doing it on his own. I never asked him to do it for me. He is just too glad to do that work and I couldnt stop him.

She looked at me suspiciously so I changed the topic "You are always more concerned about him that me anyways so there is no point"

"Come on Anuj, he has no one here plus he is such a sweet boy. And there is no denying that he is practically our caretaker and damage control in office. He is also there anytime something happens so its obvious that I am concerned for him. He also happens to be around you 24/7 which quit literally makes him family I justified"

"I know that and I am really thankful to him, You dont need to justify sweetheart,I was just kidding you know I love him like a little brother I never had and thanks to you as well that I though of having a PA in the first place" I said while kissing her hands.

I handed her the medicines which the nurse had brought in and said "There are some heavy doses so you will be out for a while. Most probably till tomorrow morning." She nodded at that and took them. As she drifted off to sleep I waited with her for a little while longer and then appointed Samar in my place till I came back.

I hung up on Anuj and walked towards Vanraj taking a seat opposite him. He was just looking here and there, and I could see the anger boiling in him. Out of no where I just started speaking

"I wouldn't do it if I were you"

"Huh, what ?" he asked confused

"I said I wouldn't do it if I were you. I knew you were egoistic but now I think you are just foolish"

"Excuse me, who are you to tell me that. And who are you in the first place?"

"You dont need to know that but I can say that I am more sensible than you."

"What do you mean?"

"I am just saying that ANUJ KAPADIA, the name itself holds power. I know he is a kind and forgiving man but that dosent make him any less influential. Just because he didnt do anything to you in the past taking in consideration that you were somehow related to his wife dosent make him foolish or weak. It makes him patient, something that you are clearly not. Now crossing that line of his patience you expect him to do nothing and over that you were stupid enough to come here looking for him and to do what? What will you even do after meeting him ?"

"You dont know what I have and you make the mistake of thinking that I fear him. I fear nothing but he will"

I laughed a hearty laugh at that. "You make the mistake of not fearing him. What do you even have Vanraj? A few thousands in your bank account and a spotty record. A blocked debit card and no one, spare your mother as family. A rapidly falling cafe which is not even built on a land owned by you. Tell me, what do you have Vanraj Shah ?" I made it a point to hit on all his weak spots knowing he will make a grave mistake in his anger. I wanted to make him mentally weak before Anuj gives him the final blow. I could see his face contorting when I stated the facts

"How do you know?"

"You are stupid enough to talk to people without checking their backgrounds, not me"

"What do you even know about me"

"I just gave you proof but the question is, What do you know about me? For all you know, I could be the person who knows each and every deed of yours, be it good and bad right from your birth to this moment. And I am sure the bad outweighs the good"

"You know nothing" he said with anger, his face even more constipated than before

"You make that mistake again. Anyways you are just not that worthy of my time. I just regret the part 10 mins of my life I spent knowing you plus the extra hour I spent reading you file"

"What do you even think of yourself. Just knowing things dosen't give you any power. You cant prove it"

" I can say I think of myself as better, wiser and less egoistic than you. Anyways there is this one person who can flush all you ego down the drain and prove your deeds in front of you face, infact luck has it that he is on his way here right now "

His face had turned to something I would laugh at by now and I was enjoying every moment of it. I really didnt want to talk to him anymore, it was not a very happy thing to talk to him, it just gave you more things to condemn him for so I decided to drop the bomb and leave him with his thoughts.

"You know Anuj is still being kind and I wont blame him for it but if I were him I would have done a lot more to you than he has, but nonetheless what he has in store for you is no joke. I am just saying that the person who holds power to destroy the Malik chain can shred you to pieces if he would like"

I just paused to see his expression, while his face almost fell out of his neck at that. I rejoiced inwardly at the peace I felt seeing his pale face which only turned paler by the moment and left the place. While I sauntered out, I saw Anuj on his way in and smiled at him.

'About time' I said

'About time' he replied while giving me a pat on the back.

I turned to see him open the door and enter the office and left for home to have a peaceful sleep knowing things would finally be in place after today.

* Yes I know its been long and I am just busy but here we go. I tried my best but I still suck at some parts. Do let me know what you think and finally the much awaited face off is in the next part. Sorry for being obsessed with my character, Zain. Since nobody acknowledges him, I do it myself😛
