Play antakshari with Juhi
Thursday, January 18, 2007

Our Correspondent

Mumbai:I have been a fan of this show right since my school days and
I am very excited to be co-hosting it with Annuji," says an excited
Juhi Parmar in relation to the new avtaar of the popular TV show
Antakshari.

Juhi says that she enjoys acting but there's nothing that feels
better than interacting with a live audience.

"This will be my first ever anchoring stint and I am very thrilled
about it, " holds Juhi who is brushing up her knowledge of music for
the show.

Juhi is confident of doing a great job on the show. She says, "My
friends call me a musical encyclopedia as I know many songs, but
Antakshari surely requires special preparation."

The show producers believe that new inclusions to the format have
been made to create the same impact that Antakshari had when it was
first aired, on a new audience.

The new hostess also believes in the magic of the show. "This is a
wonderful opportunity that I've got and that too on a grand platform
like Antakshari, where I get to share the stage with none other than
the Annu Kapur," says Juhi.

Juhi Parmar to co-host Antakshari

Juhi Parmar aka Kumkum of "Kumkum-Pyaara sa Bandhan" will jointly host Star One's new show, "Antakshari", with Annu Kapoor. Juhi has been selected because of her singing skills, good knowledge of Hindi movies and her huge popularity among the female audience. Shailja Kejriwal, senior creative director of Star finalized her after a month-long search, hoping that she would add profusely to enhance the value of the show. An elated Juhi is eager to exhibit her musical talents before her loving audience who are apparently excited to see their favourite actress don another role apart from that of the ideal bahu.

Even though both Zee and Star One are coming up with their own individual versions of "Antakshari", Juhi is optimistic about the success of the show because both Gajendra Singh, who envisaged the idea and Annu Kapoor who made anchoring a funfilled affair are associated with the Star One show after their departure from the Zee camp. As against common conception that Annu Kapoor often overshadows his co-host in his programmes, Juhi is the least bit perturbed. She considers it a great challenge to be at par with the old hand Annu Kapoor in the much talked about show and is looking forward to a healthy working atmosphere.

Juhi prefers nervousness to overconfidence

Come February, Star One's highly publicized show, Antakshari - The Great Challenge goes on air. And co-anchoring this musical along with veteran host Annu Kapoor is Kkumkum famed Juhi Parmar, for whom this will be a novel experience.

When asked about this new avatar, an elated Juhi says, "I am taking up something different from what I've been doing till now. At the moment I'm totally preparing for it. The production house has set in place a training course and I am being coached under Pandit Satyanarayan Murthy to understand the finer nuances of music."

And what about the expectations, does it weight her down, given the fact that she has been paired with Annu Kapoor who is an experienced hand in the show and also that Antakshari has always spelt success. Juhi is quick to add, "Expectations never bother me. I believe in doing my best and accepting the outcome. It will be my strategy for this show too. Annuji has been extremely cooperative and has helped me benefit from his vast experience about the show"

Talk about being nervous hosting a musical show for the first time, the actor says, "I have always encouraged nervousness. In fact I make it a point to be nervous because it propels you to give a better performance every time. Yes, I am nervous about the show and the response to my performance, but that's perfectly fine with me. I prefer to be nervous than overconfident."

Of late Juhi has been in news on her personal front too - her on-n-off relation with the maverick Anuj Saxena. So, when we pop a question about the buzz of her recent fall out, with her man, the actor adopts a polite tone to add, "I guess we will talk about it some other time." Well, the least we can say is: we will be waiting for that time to come.

After capturing attention of audiences as Kumkum, the actor has chosen to tread a more difficult path this time. Or should we say a tight rope walk with one end tied to fiction and the other to anchor a musical game show. Its only days to go when we can witness her balancing act and comment on her new avatar. Till then we have the company of the oft-repeated, clich words; wait and watch.

Juhi Parmar gets dancing fever!
At a shoot for an upcoming show, Juhi Parmar came well on time but others like Annu Kapoor, Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik got stuck in traffic because of Moharram and reached quite late. But once the shoot started, everything went smoothly and Juhi, who was suffering from fever, happily danced her way amongst the diyas!

STAR, ZEE at loggerheads over 'Antakshari'
The channel war threatens to get bigger this year with STAR hijacking ZEE TV's 'Antakshari' concept along with its mentor Gajendra Singh.

However, ZEE isn't crying over spilt milk. The channel has quickly got its act together for a new antakshari show with 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' contestants Sunil Pal and Himani Kapoor as hosts. "Getting Singh was enough of a USP for us.

We're designing our own music shows with him," said Sameer Nair, Chief Executive Officer of STAR Entertainment, India. Singh, the man behind ZEE's two flagships shows 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' and 'Antakshari', is proceeding full steam with getting the musical show in place.

There seems to be no insecurity in STAR about ZEE rush-telecasting 'Antakshari'. "Why should there be any insecurity? All this time when I was with ZEE, there seemed to be no interest in reviving 'Antakshari' after it was closed down two years ago.

Suddenly they are as keen to have the show back as we are to begin it on STAR," said Singh. The entire format and set design of STAR's 'Antakshari' will be different from ZEE's. Omang Kumar has been roped in to design the set. "I'm not looking at repeating my success with 'Antakshari' at ZEE. I'm looking at carrying it forward," said Singh.

Now, Nari has designs on TV

The fashion designer will dress up Annu Kapur for his new show

There was a time when the idiot box played second fiddle to the silver screen, but not any more. Designer Narendra Kumar Ahmed for one certainly seems to agree.

Which explains why he has decided to venture into television by designing for Annu Kapur, the anchor of the upcoming show 'Antakshari'.

So what made him take it up? "Well, to begin with TV is no longer a 'small' medium; it's growing by leaps and bounds. Moreover, I have never differentiated between the two media or for that matter, even my buyers - they could be someone known or lesser known," he explains, adding that he's open to similar offers for TV, provided the project is a challenging one.

"After all, TV has a wider reach and this way, my work will be exposed to larger audiences," he observes.

Ask him about the look he has designed for Anu and he says, "This time around, the overall look is going to be very modern. Of course, there will also be ethnic wear, depending upon the occasion — it'll keep varying.

But it'll most definitely be not loud. Sophisticated is the best way to describe it," he elaborates.

Apart from this, Narendra is also busy with preparations for his LA show and of course, the Lakme Fashion week. "March will be one hectic month — the LA show is taking place mid-March followed by the LFW," he notes.

And given the huge response that his show 'In protest' had generated at last year's LFW, does he plan to follow it up with something similar? To which he replies, "I do intend to have a theme for my collection. But I haven't really zeroed in on one particular theme yet."

Narendra Kumar Ahmed

Nari on the small screen

Badshah of cool cuts, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, who designed for John Abraham in Baabul, is now small screen bound.

The designer has made some cool threads for the staid Annu Kapoor for Star One's Antakshari, so needless to say the anchor is going to be singing one happy tune in praise of Nari.

Sing aloud with Annu

Annu Kapoor and Juhi Parmar

Annu Kapoor has teamed up with Juhi Parmar for a new innings of Antakshari on Star One.

Those who have watched past seasons of the show will be familiar with Annu's penchant for hogging the limelight from his female co-anchors. Several ladies have come and gone, but few have been able to match up to this motor mouth's eagerness in grabbing all the attention.

So we really wonder whether Juhi, who is anchoring for the first time, will be able to hold her own in front of Annu's histrionics (one antic includes crying at the drop of a hat!)? We'll just have to wait and watch as the show makes a bid for the Limca Book of Records for 24 hours of non-stop antakshari.
