Current day September 17, 2018

Aditi reached the hospital at around 10am. She parked the car and entered the hospital. While she was waiting for the elevator, she saw another couple waiting next to her, they seemed nervous. When they entered the elevator, the husband clicked the button for the 1st floor. The wife smiled nervously at Aditi, who returned the smile while pressing the button for 4th floor, that's where they had shifted vikrant now.

"First time?" Aditi simply asked and looked at the couple. They nodded eagerly.

"All the best." Aditi wished as they reached the first floor and the couple left.

Aditi was alone in the elevator now, she rested her back along the elevator wall and closed her eyes. She was transported back to the time when vikrant and her had come for her first ultrasound,

Somewhere late in February 2018,

Aditi was just over 7 weeks when they decided to go for her first ultrasound. They had taken an early morning appointment, vikrant and Aditi couldn't wait to see their child for the first time. They were very excited to meet the gynecologist and equally scared as well. Vikrant had even consulted his friend Nikhil, who was an orthopedic surgeon for God's sake!

When they reach the hospital, vikrant and Aditi were asked to wait outside as they were too early, even the doctor hadn't arrived yet! When they were sitting on the chairs outside vikrant was continuously tapping his foot, Aditi kept her palm on his knees,

"Calm down vikrant."

Vikrant turned towards her with big eyes and a questioning look,

"Yeh Tum keh rahi ho aditi??? Tum? Jise hospital se dar lagta hai?"

"Haan. Pata nahi aaj mujhe darr nahi lag raha. Kehte Hai ek maa bohot strong aur nidarr hoti Hai, shayad aisahi kuchh hoga." She smiled at him.

Vikrant smiled back and interlaced his fingers through hers.

"Aaj Mei bohot excited hu aditi, hum apne bacche ko aaj pehli baar dekhenge!!"

After a while their names were called and they entered the examination room. The doctor welcomed them and they took a seat in front of the lady doctor. She walked Aditi through the procedure and the do's and don'ts of pregnancy. At one point, vikrant took out his pocket diary and started taking notes. Both the women rolled their eyes at him. He simply looked up and shrugged,

"Kya? Mujhe hi to khayal rakhna hai na?"

Next the doctor asked Aditi to lie on the bed in the room and applied the gel on her belly. The moment was nearing and Aditi held vikrants hand tightly, they were so ready to meet their child.

The doctor put the probe on Aditi's stomach and moved it around, an image started forming on the monitor, and they strained their eyes. The screen was blurry, It was a mix of gray and white. But there in the center was a small form and a strong steady heart beat. Their child. Their child. It felt so much more real to them now. The sound of those tiny heartbeats filled the room and vikrant and Aditi couldn't believe that they had created a new life, something so simple yet so beautiful. They both had tears in their eyes. Vikrant turned towards Aditi and placed a kiss on her forehead.

"Congratulations Mr and Mrs singhal, apka baby ekdum healthy hai, abhi tak to koi complications nahi hai." The doctor interrupts them. She hands Aditi a paper towel to wipe the gel and instructs her to follow a healthy diet and tells her to come for regular visits.

Vikrant and Aditi take their reports (quite a speedy hospital) and leave hand in hand. Once they are outside the room vikrant places a kiss on Aditi's knuckles and tells her,

"Meine naam bhi soch liya Hai baby ke liye." Aditi is surprised,

"Arre itne jaldi? Abhi to hume ye bhi pata nahi hai ke ladka hai ya ladki."

They approached near the elevator, and vikrant continued as he pressed the button for ground floor,

"Mere paas dono ka solution hai, agar beti hui to uska naam hum "Viditi" rakhenge, aur beta hua to uska naam hum "Vidit" rakhenge. Aur hum use ghar me Vidu bulaenge." Vikrant wiggled his eyebrows at Aditi. Aditi couldn't believe the father of her child was such a kid. And an idea popped in head just to irritate him.

"Nahi. Hum use Vidu nahi bulaenge." She said as they entered the elevator.

"Kyu?"

"Bas yu hi."

"Ye yuhi Kya hota Hai? Hum use Vidu hi bulaenge."

"Nahi Vikrant."

"Haan Aditi."

"Nahi."

"Haan." And they continued their argument as the elevator doors closed.

Only if they knew what was waiting for them in the future. Only if they knew their world was going to turn upside down within just 15 days.
