Last week was probably a superlative week, when all the little kids performed brilliantly.. This perhaps raised our expecations so much from them, and this week they left me little dissapointed!
I was not too surprised with the bottom 4 this week... The issue is that all of these kids are so good, that whoever turns up in bottom 4 will be a surprise for the judges...
Last week - anyway Anwesha, Prakriti and Sonya could not have landed up in bottom 4.. they were that good... I would keep Aishwarya, Abeer and Manasi in the next lot based on last weeks performance.. So one of them had to land up in bottom 4... Now Aishwarya has a quite a strong fan base, so she was relatively safer.. Between Abeer and Manasi, Manasi proved to be the unlucky one to land up in scaryland... I am assuming that Abeer beat her just by a whisker... As for the 3 other boys, yes Jayant, Areeb and Vyom were the weakest last week, and its no surprise to me that they all were at bottom 4.. In fact when they called up these 3 kids first, I was actually sad that only 1 or 2 of these kids would be in danger and that would mean that some of the better performers of last week would have to face the scaryland.. But thank God, that did not happen...
I really did not appreciate the pseudo tension that the judges were trying to build up saying that they could not believe the votes.. I also thought that the AV of projecting the judges bias was not needed... If Manasi and Abeer had stayed back earlier, it was because they gave better performances than the other kids.. Cuteness had nothing to do with that decision... Gajji - pls refrain from creating unnecessary controversies in the show!
As for the group performances.. I personally like 'Tauba main pyar karke' the most over the other ones.. I think the tonal quality of the 3 boys was similar in nature and hence the group effect came out best for them... In 'Yeh ishq haaye', since Anwesha, Aishwarya and Prakriti were singing together, it became very evident that their tonal quality also ranked in that order... For 'Dupatta tera..' I think the kids gave quite an enjoyable performance along with Kunal...
Prakriti was declared as the highest vote gainer for last week... She was definitely one of the top 3 from last week, but how I expeceted that Anwesha would have stolen the show with 'Aami je Tomaar'... But as Kunal pointed out, probably the Bengal votes are getting divided between her and the girls from the other show, and hence she has still not emerged as a topper... Prakriti put in great expressions in her 'O mere Sona Re' performance, but I found her voice cracked yesterday.. I also see that she goes on falsetto on the higher notes.. something that she will have to rectify soon..
As for the acid test performances... Vyom came back very strongly in 'Gulaabi Aankhen'.. He is perhaps the weaker talent among all the bottom 4 singers, but his yesterday's performance was way above the singing of other 3, and if he was given the red signal yesterday looking at the potential of other kids, it would have been unfair to him.. Good decision judges!
I know Manasi went out of sur in quite a few places with 'Jaane kyon log..' yesterday, but then at some places, she was simply amazing with her expressions.. I think this is the first sombre song that she attempted and the child did very good for her age with it.. I think she was marked lower than what she deserved for her performance yesterday...
The weakest singers yesterday were Jayant and Areeb... Jayant sounded very very nasal with 'Lagan lagan', neither did he get the lower notes correct! Areeb also could not do full justice to 'Jaane kya dhoonde man' (one of my fav songs).. I think both of them gave their weakest performance yesterday.. I think what influenced the judges in their favor instead of Manasi, is their better classical potential over her..
But overall, I felt sad that just based on the performances yesterday (and erasing memories of past record).. she should have stayed back... Between Jayant and Areeb, who should have gone in that case.. well, my ears found Areeb a shade better than Jayant in yesterday's performance...
Like many others, I also felt very sad when Manasi was crying irresistably yesterday.. My heart went out to the child.. I think, the tears were more from the standpoint that the elimination did not seem too fair.. Really good to see the maturity in Manasi's mom that she did not create an issue out of it, and gave all the strength to her... I am sure that she will grow her daughter up to a strong and fine singer...
Looking fwd to today's episode now with Ghulam Ali Saab and some fine song selections by the kids... Will write down my thoughts for the episode here after watching the same...
