This shows that true talent makes contests irrelevant--everyone wants to claim Abhilasha, therefore, she IS the Voice of India, no matter who wins the ongoing contest.

Those who claim her may not be able to generate enough votes for her in this run, but they will buy her CDs, listen to her over and over and wish her well.

Abhilasha's last name is Venkatachalam. That is a typical Telugu surname. Tamilians do not have that name. Iyer is aslo at typical Tamilian Shaivite name. In Tamilian Brahmin community there two types. One is Iyengars who are Vaishnavites and Iyers, who are Shaivites. There used to be lot of enmity between those two groups but I think they catching up with new world. Even in Maharashtrian Brahmins there are at least 3 sects. Kokanastha Brahmins (Ko Bra), Deshastha Brahmins , Karhade and Khandeshi.

Now let us turn our attention to all the names Dabull (Varsha Tai ) has mentioned. Maharashtra is the only state where one can be born and raised but does not have to learn the local language. None, oops! may be some that she mentioned can speak Marathi. It is a state which welcomes every one with open arms. A land of saints.
It even allows Bollywood to create a image of Marathi person as only servant. Maharashtra never complains. It reminds me of my home city Hyderabad where in the old city one gets the feeling of being in our neighbouring country. They even openly raise their flags. What would you call such people who live and earn their bread in a place but disrespect the local and also always show alligiance to some one else.

By the way I can speak Telugu although my mother tongue is Marathi. I am not the one who is like "Doosryalaa saange Brahma dnyaana aaNi aapaN korade PaashaN" (a hypocrite). The literal translation is like a person who teaches philosophy and knowledge to others but the self is like a plane dry rock. Sorry if I touched a sensitive nerve.

Both Abhilasha and Sumithra are good singers no matter what their languages are.

Asha Rao wrote.... one of my friend [in pune] who knows abhilasha says that she is a malayalee girl [that too palakkat malayalee] ........😆 There goes the claim for Abhilasha to be a Malayali girl. By the way palkat Iyers though from Kerala are Tamil Iyers whose forefathers have settled there. Now every state wants Abhilasha to be there daughter 😊 Thats the way to go girl. All want you because you are so talented.I hope the Junta who are voting also have some sense and send there votes for you.

Abhilasha is singing "ek main aur ek tu" this friday .Perfect song for her.The
song has loads of energy and expressions.

I feel Asha's songs suit Abhilasha better.Remember"aaj ki raat koi aane ko
hai" and "aao huzoor tumko"

It is a pretty common first name in the Iyer community. She is definitely not
a Malayalee; she is probably a Palakkad Iyer (Tamil-speaking Iyer who
originate from Palakkad, kerala).

But Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra....Sumithra is a Mumbaikar and Abhilasha is a
Punekar.

I am writing this just to continue the discussion about Abhilasha. Venkatachalam and Iyer? Venkatachalam is a Vaishnavite name and Iyers can never be Vaishnavite. Kailasam Iyer is a good possibility but Venkatachalam? I doubt it. My understanding about those two Tamilians communities is that they do not approve of intercommunity marriages. My DIL's sister is married to a Iyengar person. I have talked many times with his dad. They have pretty strong feelings about it. In our Marathi community the division is given less importance. So I still feel that either Abhilasha is Telugu (I am 85% sure) or Tamilian Iyengar (10%). I give only 5% credibility in to Iyer.
