Is Age a Concern for Budding Singers?

"Age No Bar" when it comes to spotting good talent. But is our Reality Talent Hunt Shows thinking the same?

age shouldnt be a criteria for singing competions..physical maturity varies greatly..

some 'kids'like hemachandra(17),ishmeet (18),vipul(16),abhilasha(17),ashpreet (18),himani/nihira(17/18,vineet(17/18),arijit(18) have beautiful voices and sing fabulously..imagine singinging competitions witout them

richa is trained,but has a baby accent ,looks like one and behaves like one..

sanchari 18..still seems to be very fragile..and needs to mature a bit more.sings beautifully..but needs another guru to give her a new direction and guidance..

abhaas..he got the best reaction from the judges so far(watched the promos)they were actually at loss for words...

people have loved sanchita's ,pawni's,sameer's performances so much..i have heard some songs sung by them"tujhse naaraz',"oh maajhi re",'beedi',and many more, sung by singers much older and actually cringed,

my opinion is dont disallow them..give them a chance and see what they can do..

I don't like the idea of 18+ age limit for reality shows.
Shraddha, Sanchita and Pawni...? How can we forget that these girls were under 16 and still sang amazingly well in Lil Champs? I've also preferred some of their renditions to the ones sung by the "older" singers. Four out of the five singers in the top five of C2005 were 18 years old or younger. Like Ankita pointed out, how can we imagine the show without such singers?

As for the instant fame, popularity (or opposite?) and success and affects on personal life, that is a different story. But based on talent, the under 18 crowd should be allowed to participate.

Most people never commented on Richa's immature voice until the judges pointed it out in the last piano round. That may be more of a speech problem than an immaturity in voice. 😕 Even Javed Saab (who was the first one bring up the issue) acknowledged that last week.

The arguments on Vipul's age was unnecessary. Its one thing that he did not sing the song with the right mood and feel and another that he has an immature voice and should have waited a few years before trying out for ASVOI.

Besides reality shows, we have Anu Malik's nephew and daughter singing for movies. When did age become a bar in the music industry? Heck, we have 15 year old actresses in movies now. Age isn't a bar and it really never was. Talent is usually the main criteria but when have music reality shows been just about talent?

good points 👏 i agree with u both... the most baffling thing is - its the same judgeswho have selected these singers in auditions, and now in theater rounds they all seem to have problem with the age😕 if that were so, why select them in the first place... even on the issue of fame affecting personal life, i feel times r changing fast now... we have 15 year olds winning Wimbledon, age factor is a thing of the past...

The best examples are Shreya Goshal and Sunidhi Chauhan, they became playback singers at 16-17, Shreya in Devda....simply wow, for an 16 years old girl.

Even Alkaji started her singing career (playback singing) at the age of 14. I donot understand the concept of age barrier in these competitions....

Of course the amle voice changes at the age of 12-13, but for 16-17 year old kids like Hemchandra, Vineet everyone performed so brilliantly.
