Division in 4 groups - what was the logic

In another topic, we have been dicussing what could have been the logic of dividing the 33 singers in 4 groups... Shaan said that it was made sure that each of the groups had different kind of voices - But that could mean that all voices of one kind can get eliminated in these rounds from all the groups and we could land up in all having same kind of voices in the bemisaal 12... the other logic could have been that similar tonal qualities are grouped together, its easy to judge them relatively, and that would ensure variety in the final 12.. but the risk there is many good singers can start getting eliminated in this round itself (that anyway seems to be happening)...

But on the whole, the group division seems to be more like back-calculated, based on their audition round performances and 1-2 'stronger' singers were clubbed in each group to ensure that make it to the finals...

E.g. - Group A was made so that Ishmeet and Sumitra could move on, while the 3rd position was anyone's game.. Similarly, I have read that Toshi and Saptaparna seem to be in another group (both seem to have a good chance to make it to top 12)

What do you think was the logic here for the division of groups? Also, you can share if you were given the job - how would you segregate the groups?

Good thought to start this thread.

Would gender have helped? That allows men to compete with like voices, and then women. Makes theme choosing easier?

It's just a thought.

Yes thats a good idea too.. but I think eventually in the final 12 the girls and boys are going to fight against each other nevertheless... Not that its the best of format again, but thats what is going to happen...

So may be that would not be the best of formats to choose the most talented singers

No, I did not think so even when typing it!

In a way, no matter what the basis, there will be a problem. What makes us wonder is that we don't know what the basis of the division was. That is, if it had been told to us or shown to us, we have said, okay, it's imperfect but everything is. Now we get to sit and speculate about motivation, etc.

I don't know about the logic behind the division of the four groups.. 😕 Maybe it has to do with the popularity of the contestants, in addition to their talent and audition performance reactions? Both Ishmit and Sumitra were discussed a lot here prior to the final 33 round. There's also an audition promo of each contestant on the ASVOI site.

Will the top 12 consist of an even number of male and female singers? Or are they picking the best singers, regardless of gender?

I guess they should actually pick up the 12 best regardless of the gender.. because these 12 are going to fight it out for 1 single title... That would ensure that a less talented person does not get in place of a more talented one just because of gender bias

division in groups is not fair... coz in this case, u r forced to select 3 singers from each group even if they r not good... and some good ones will be left out from others coz there might be more good ones clubbed in that group... they shud have had a system like in ii where they heard all contestants in theater rounds (in groups of 2-3 singing duets) and then took a decision on a whole after hearing all of them...

I agree - the format of II for selecting the finalists for Galas seems to be the best by-far... Most unbiased, I guess.. Just dont like the public voting that they introduce so early in the contest!
