Public voting reduces these shows entirely to a popularity contest. And the second factor is who is willing to spend a whole lot of money to vote. It is not a substitute even for squabbling judges.

Agreed. What if one group of singers is stronger than the others? The judges can only select three singers. II format is better where the judges could hear all the contestants in the theater round (though that one round had a lot of drama) and then again in the piano round. ASVOI format could have been better.
