Saturday saw the elimination of some very talented singers from the show, and I am sure not all of us agree to that... In this thread, we will try to analyse the performances for Saturday...

This is just based on yesterday's performance... This may be very very different from what the judges felt. but this is just based on what appealed to my ears and my little-bit sense of music😳

I personally thought that the most unfortunate elimination of the day was Sayantani... 'O Baabul pyaare' is very very tough song and she sang it very very well.. I woukd say the best performance of the day.... I thought she captured the mood of the song very well, that one single wrong 'ho' should not have led her to pay such a heavy price.. What impressed me the most that she has such a steady voice and can hold the notes so well... Really upset with Adesh, Alka and Lalit for that one.. I thought she was awesome...

The next best performance for me yesterday was Ishmeet... 'Patta patta, boota boota' again is a very tough song and he asng it so so differently.. I usually cannot imagine anyone else doing justice to a Rafi song (they are all so tough), but Ishmeet did great.. he did not sing it like Rafi saab, was very original and yet maintained the dignity of the song very well... Hats off Ishmeet.. I would want to listen lot more to you in the coming rounds...

I never cared enough for Tanushree, but today she just impressed me with 'Sajna hai mujhe sajna ke liye'... very melodious song and this girl did so well in that.. I remember she was very good in the 2 lines that she had sung on 'Ruke ruke se qadam' during the auditions and she was great.. she repeated the charisma today with the same, she needs to work on her diction a little though, and reduce the shakiness in her voice.. Her weak performance yesterday in the Kyonki song cost her the place in the next round, and thats unfortunate considering today's performance!

Hats off to Karishma for even attempting a song like 'Solah baras ki baali umar ko salaam' even after knowing that she does not have the typical folk voice... I think, her attempt was wonderful and she captured the mood of the song so well... yes she had some breath problems hodling the higher notes, but nevertheless a great performance... and how I would want to listen to her more... All the best Karishma, u have a very different tonal quality and I love it...

For Aravind, it was a gamble to sing a Kishore da song again after he got all the flak yesterday... but, it paid well... Aravind has a great voice, and he attempted a great song too 'Aye mere dil ke chain' (one of my favs of KK's romantic numbers); but somehow I did not enjoy it as much as the other performances.. All the drama that happened during his song is completely unwarranted.. he should not have been made the scapegoat to squeeze in all the crap!

One person that dissapointed me quite a bit yesterday was Sumitra... 'Aao na gale lagao na' is a very very tough song, and after her HRHK rendition, I was actually confident that she would do well in this song.. But somehow I felt that she lost sur in quite a few places, and did not do the high notes well at all... She was also breaking the continuity of the song at many places.. Surprised that why this was not caught by the judges and she got 10s and 9s, when she dis not deserve it at all.. Full marks to Alka for pointing that out... and who said that singers cannot be good judges!

Rohit was anyway no match for this group, and he was quite bad in 'Ruk jaana nahi'... he had a very bad start.. somehow made it up in the antara.. but the biggest problem with him is his tonal quality... I think that has lot of air when he sings and hence the entire weight of the song is lost...

So overall to me - my ranking of performances will be:

Sayantani
Ishmeet
Tanushree
Karishma
Aravind
Sumitra
Rohit

And am really really sad to have lost Sayantani so early in the game😭.. I am however confused by the last statement of Shaan, when he said that aap log 100% safe hai..😕 so would that mean that some of them may get a chance to come back from this group through the wild card? If yes, will definitelty route for Sayantani and Karishma...👍🏼

Other than the wrong judgements and Sumitra dissapointing my expectations, I was quite happy with the show yesterday.😊.. Some great performances, and also having the 'classic' theme - it was a treat to listen to some of the best songs of yesteryears! 👏👏

I agree that it was lovely to hear really good songs. It is not as if they don't compose good songs nowadays, it is just that no one seems to want to sing them on these shows.

I think Sayantani has a very lovely voice, but her singing yesterday and the day before impressed me less than it did you. But I think she will come back a strong contender another day as should Tanushree and Karishma.

Sumitra, Sumitra... Alka Yagnik was absolutely right. She has to practise what in Carnatic music is called 'Mel Sthayi Varushai'--singing exercises in the upper octave--not for reach or for strength, but for modulation and polish. She quickly spills into shrill. I am also disappointed that all her three performances have had the same rasa. They are all similar sorts of songs. She could have used yesterday's theme to show us she can sing quieter songs too.

Ishmeet's choice of song was delightful. I have never heard 'Patta patta' performed before in a talent contest.

On another thread, I think it was you, Jaya, who said this contest is moving too fast for you. I am inclined to agree. Perhaps they should have done smaller groups for this round.

Thanks for poiting out the technicalities of where Sumitra faltered... I did not have the right words for that...

'Patta patta boota boota' was actually attempted by Vineet Singh in Challenge 05, and he had sung it beautifully too.. But Vineet has tried to immitate the Rafi style of singing in that round, but I liked abt Ishmeet that he was very original...

Yes - I still think that we are moving too fast and losing some of the great singers very very fast.. dont like it at all...

On another note - I have always appreciated your great insighful posts before, how come you became Newbie all over again?

I cannot decide what I think about Arvind's singing.

Karishma can sing a lot better than this and her audition performance in Indore showed that. Sometimes a really good rendition can lift a song that is otherwise 'okay' and for me, that was an example.

thanks jaya 😆 ..i am very bad at reviewing and ranking too..but some thoughts..

1st was tanushree..i really liked her performance today..i like her positive spirit very sweet girl..when she came on aajtak too her smile never left her..

karishma(baali umar ki)..was i wrong about her voice?perhaps shraddha's(lil champs) version stuck in my head..she auditioned for lilchamps so, she is very young..her making it so far shows that she is tremendously talented.

sayantini(oh baul pyaare)..i thought she would get better marks..but what do i know..i dont have the experience..i liked her..

arvind sang rafi's "ehsaan tera hoga mujh par"on aajtak,a golden classic, beautifully!since then i have been"promoting'him in this forum 😳he is from a small town..so didnt get any guidance..i remember during his audition the judges said that it doesnt matter what song you sing classical or otherwise..gaane mein woh bath honi chahiye..he is a natural..

sumithra..i will reserve my judgement till shes ings a non western song..kuchh baat zaroor hogi usme..marks were not given for her performance..just to make sure she went the finals.

ishmeet..i will always be partial to him.he seems to be mild mannered gentleman..i was again surprised by the low marks..i was carried away by the song..and boy what a voice!!!

rohit..i didnt like his voice..so switched channels

yesterday i watched much more calmly,i realised that expecting 33 exceptional singers was asking for the impossible.but 12 exceptional singers we will get!

rohit was the 1 bad choice by the judges..all theothers are talented and have potential

I think Ankita is right. Sumitra's high marks were insurance that she would go into the next round. Abhijeet is marking her singing like a member of her fan club!

I was listening to Sumitra yesterday and wondering who would be the dark horse, who would burn out and who would self-destruct. Happily, their personalities are not enough on display for us to find out!

Totally agree... I think Karishma has awesome potential👏👏👏 She sang the baghbaan song in the Indore auditions and what a performance it was... Very courageous of her to attempt the Ek duje ke liye song, but yes she could have done better.... I think she will go a very long way in her life, she has that in her 😊
