His was the voice of promise, hope

IF the death of Ishmeet Singh is being mourned by millions of his fans as if he was related to them, it is not just because he was a promising singer. It is because he was also blessed with qualities like humility, kindness and dignity, which are rare in today?s world, all the more so in a 19-year old. Before he won the Voice of India contest, he too went through tough grilling like other contestants. Unlike many others, he remained unruffled winning the hearts of millions of viewers. That is what made him a role model for not only teenagers, but also their parents and grandparents. This was the kind of boy who could motivate all whom he met. When the death is so tragic and unexpected, conspiracy theories are bound to do the rounds. But from available accounts, it seems that there was no foul play in his drowning. However, the absence of a lifeguard rankles. All these are afterthoughts which cannot bring back Ishmeet. The Tribune expresses its heartfelt sympathies to his parents and family members, whose despair can only be imagined. By coming to the limelight from the obscurity of Ludhiana, Ishmeet filled many
hearts with the hope that they, too, could dream big and also make those dreams come true. Once he had become a celebrity, he used his status wisely to promote social causes.

One hopes that those saddened by his death would channelise their energies in constructive pursuits. That would be the best way to perpetuate the memory of Ishmeet Singh, who appeared on the musical horizon like a shooting star.

Shaan speaks on Ishmeet

Singer Shaan, who hosted the first season of Voice Of India had met Ishmeet in Kolkata 15 days prior to his untimely demise. Shaan says that Ishmeet was an amazing personal who will be sorely missed.

He says, "He had that spark in him. He was a very well balanced person with no attitude problems. He was very jovial, had a good sense of humour and never took things the wrong way, even though the judges on the show and the media didn't always favour him. He respected the judges even if they were harsh on him."

Shaan recalls how Ishmeet had promised to try his hand on classical music. Shaan reveals, "Ishmeet promised me that after the finale he would try to sing semi-classical songs and he kept to his promise. He wanted to settle down in Mumbai, take authentic training lessons and also take up some computer courses. His voice was magical and he was a very positive person."

Shaan recalls their last meeting. He says, "We met in Kolkatta for the second season of Voice Of India. I had asked Ishmeet to give us his VOI trophy as we wanted to keep that on one of the tables as a central part of the show. But Ishmeet wanted to hold on to the trophy and said that there was still a lot of time till the new winner was announced. For him we cancelled our plan to highlight the trophy. I also recall how excited he was to meet Sonu Nigam!"

About Ishmeet's sad demise Shaan says, "Even I do not know how to swim and nowadays in all resorts you will find 50% of people in a pool who do not know anything about swimming but still swim in pool and sea. He was never careless or brash but in Maldives it is always thrill to go in to water. It was matter of destiny."

Shaan however is quick to dismiss that any foul play took place. He says, "Some people are saying that it was conspiracy and someone wanted to kill him but this is wrong, He never misbehaved so why would anyone have any personal problems with him. Let the man's soul rest in peace."
