Amita is the soul of her family. She dreams to have a life partner like Ranbir Kapoor. While on the other side Amit wants a life partner like Deepika Padakone. Now Amita's grandpa and Amit's grandma are acquaintances. They decide to meet up for Amit-Amita's wedding proposal. Amit and Amita reject each other but this fact is known only by Amit's grandmother and Hemant (Amita's father). Amit then meets another girl - Snehal who is Phalguni (Amit's mom) friend's daughter. Amit falls for this girl but Snehal is already going around with some other guy and so she rejects Amit's proposal. Meanwhile Phalguni likes Snehal and considers her as perfect bahu. She does not like Amita because of her simplicity and plain jane look.

During Priti (Amita's friend) and Sanjay(Amit's friend) engagement function, Snehal thinks that Amita is Amit's girlfriend. And even Amit does not bother to clear her misunderstanding due to his ego. Now this news reaches Amit's family, they rethink and resend Amit's proposal to Amita's house. This news also reaches Amita (That Amit is totally in love with her).Meanwhile Kajol (Amita's would be bhabhi) is in a hurry to marry because of her father's failing health. She emotionally brainwashes Amita who in turn says yes to Amit's proposal. Just before the wedding Amit and Amita come to know about the truth (i.e. Amit had rejected Amita and he actually loves Snehal. Vice-versa: Amita had initially rejected Amit's proposal)

Amit decides to call off the wedding and his family is shocked. Amita cites her family prestige and happiness as the reason and tells Amit that she is ready to marry him even after knowing all the facts. Amit is in a dilemma but eventually he comes with the baraat and they get married.
