Has that extra letter in their names helped?

BT asks TV stars, who've altered their names as per numerology

RESHMA S KULKARNI

After going through an era of being barraged by tonguetwisting names of TV serials, TV actors are now making drastic alterations to the spellings of their names, in order to beckon lady luck. But does this ploy really work or is it just one amongst the many passing fads that sweep through the industry every once in a while? We decided to ask some of the actors who have altered their spelling, whether the spell-check has helped them in any way. Here's what they had to say:

Rajev Paul:Oh! Certainly. After changing my spelling from Rajeev to Rajev, I have noticed an upward trend in my career and also my personal life. For starters, I began getting great offers. After a long time, there came a point in my career wherein I was doing a positive role (in Twinkle Beauty Parlour) and a negative role (in Kaavyanjali on Star Plus) simultaneously. Of course, though what happened with Twinkle… is quite unfortunate, yet I maintain that it was this serial that helped me got more noticed, with the result that people have started approaching me with unique roles. So, I definitely feel that the spellchange has helped me a lot says Rajev Paul, whose success story influenced his wife Delnazz and brother Rakeshh to emulate Rajev and both are happy with the effects.

Delnazz Paul: Rather than limiting the effects to just getting good work, I can vouch for the fact that I can feel a positive energy around me, whether it's at work or in my personal relationships. Apart from the fact that I am getting some great work, after I changed the spelling, there has also been a sea-change in the way my relations with my family members and colleagues have improved.

Rakesh Paul:Rakeshh Paaul, who has changed the spelling of not only his name, but also his surname, says excitedly, "It has been just fifteen days since I made this change but I have already started getting positive vibes, in terms of work and otherwise. The numerologist not only suggested a change in the spelling but also guided me about the way I need to alter the flow of my handwriting and my signature, as also about the colours that I should use and avoid. All this is helping me a lot, as I can tell from my fortnight-long experiences.
Nikhil Arya:Another actor who's taken the alteration thing a bit too far and is pretty satisfied about it is, Nikkhil Arya, who not only changed the spelling, but also his surname entirely! "Yes, it's true, though not many people know it, that my real surname is Sakhrani and not Arya!" Whoa! That's a shocker! "Initially when I was trying to get a foothold in the industry, I was advised to go in for a more filmy name. My mother was adamant that the name be such that it brings me success; she believes quite a lot in these things and when we consulted the numerologist, he suggested the name Arya. Well, as for whether it has helped me or not, I'd say that yes, things have moved really nicely after I made the change, but still I'd like to attribute my success to my parents blessings, my hard work and ultimately my destiny. I went in for the name change only to make my mom happy. I feel that if I was not destined for such success, it would not have come to me, no matter what I did. These alterations are actually only a manifestation of an actor's insecurity, which is so rampant in an unpredictable industry like ours."
Sudhanshu Pandey:Nikkhil's line of thought is reiterated by Suddhaunshu Pandey and Anita Hasanandani, both, who despite having gone in for a spelling change; feel that ultimately, it's your fate that matters. Says Suddhaunshu, "Though I have changed my spelling and have also got a fair amount of success after I did that, I'd like to believe that the success is more a product of my hard work and good karma, rather than the spelling change. If only by altering one's spelling, one could get success, what would be the need to work? One would just alter the spelling and wait for success to come to him without doing anything."
Anita:Anita, who reverted back to her original name after a brief stint with the name Natassha, says that she feels good to be back to her old name. "A new name makes you feel as if you have lost your identity. Also, to begin with, I was never a believer in numerology. I went in for the change, just for a lark – I did get some great offers during that
stint, but then even after reverting back to being Anita, I am doing fine enough. "
Mouli Ganguly:As for Moulli Ganguly, the story related to her spelling change is quite amusing. Mouli, who now spells her name as Moulli insists that, that was what her spelling actually was to begin with! "I'm having a tough time explaining to people that I have not altered my spelling; Moulli is my original spelling. After coming into the industry, my name was spelt in various ways and I would not be very bothered about it till the time I read a few books on numerology, which suggested that it is better to stick to one spelling, preferably, that which gives you good vibrations. I also had been encountering problems due to my name being spelt differently in different documents. So, essentially, to overcome that problem, I decided to stick to my original spelling," says Moulli.
"Though what has to happen will always happen, small remedies like numerology give us the strength to behave in a manner that will mitigate the intensity of tough times. So, if by inculcating such small remedies in our lives, we are able to better it in some way, why not do it?" she adds.
