Why do hindi serials protrait all NRIS as confused ABCDEFG, who drink, gamble womanize , sleep with any one in pants or dress for that matter , and no desi values ,no sharam and no moral character..

LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING... people here are more passionate about preserving culture than people in India . no one wants to be a ghetto guy , which is what youngsters in INdia do . ..every one dresses in desi outfit whenever they get a chance. every one tries to mingle with other desis to keep the cultural values intact

They are very hard working, very goal oriented and very straightforward, as the culture in USA is honesty and straightforwardness. ..we don't lie ,cheat or deciet in our every day lives. children know what sexual harrassment is . and don't make untoward advances.. and they are so hardworking, they don't have time to go out and party /champagne etc

I AM JUST SICK OF STEREOTYPING ALL NRIS ..THIS IS NOT US ..

I somehow feel that this sort of thinking has made an indeliable mark on ppl living in India..........the NRI'S are of loose morals.

As you rightly said,NRI"S are hard working ppl,who are making their presence felt in every field.

We need to feel proud and infact we are proud of them.

As far as black sheep, every society has them.I do understand how you feel.

Totally agree. I have spent a good deal of my life in India and then I moved out and the thing is I find it so annoying when people try to act towards me as though I have changed when I know I haven't not in the sense of values etc.

But at the same time I have met people who move from India who are more ready to adapt to all that prevails here just in order to be called westernized. Some call it adaptability, some refer to it as being taken in by the glitter. But the thing is that these characters do exist. In case of television there are certain stereotypes which all said and done are easily identified by the audience and help in generating the trps and stretching the stories. So I guess take it in the way that it is shown as part of the television and not reality.

That's why i said black sheep are everywhere.

Arey yaar, don't be so taken aback.Iknow you feel hurt by the way NRI"S are portrayed. But I think ppl are hell bent on believing what they are shown on TV.

It is not right to potray all people like that... But the fact is there are all kinds of people everywhere... They are just potraying samay and his family like that, whereas Ajit was from Canada as well, he was not potrayed like that... Similarly, Rusty grew up in London but is shown to carry all the Indian values...

This is a very good post, it's something my brother and I discuss often we came here as kids and have noticed how our parents are more orthodox than our aunts and uncles back home, talking or even oogling at a male species infront of my mother and father is the biggest sin in my household, my mother and I have been here for the past 13 years and we have never drank, I am a 21 year old who has never entered a club in my entire life in the US

I was appalled at the way they depicted NRI's it is so disgusting 🤢

You are absolutely right. Most are more traditional. I became more attached to my culture after coming here. But I am also seen many people trying very hard to be the opposite because they are "Modern"

You know what's funny shags?? I had met two guys who were family friends from UK, and they were only in LA for a week and then in Houston, where I'm from, for about 4 days. Anywayz, the elder brother said that us Indo-Americans live in some fantasy world and that we're not cultured!!! And on top of that, he was like, I can find a blue-eyed indian girl in UK much easier, than a cultured indian girl over here in the States!😡 I wanted to beat him up so badly!! I know there are some ppl that have blended in with the American culture, but there are many Indians who haven't. A prime example is in NY. Lots of desis over there are proud of their roots, and others get lost in the crowd. At the end of the day, it all depends on your mentality; sad, but true. I wish NRIs weren't stereotyped this way, but that's what most people think that wherever you go, you'll adapt the kind of culture of that society and perhaps, forget your own as well.
