Domestic violence ... Ranvj beats Rekha black and blue

Domestic violence (both mental and physical) had been shown in AJ previously but very superficially. Today it was shown in its gory details.

The way the story goes is that Suman sees Rekha in her husband's arms, goes and complains to Ranvijay who comes down and waves a finger at Madhur and follows Rekha into her bedroom where he beats her up.

She has bruises on her face and her body.

Next day Loha is entertaining potential voters in his house with eagerness and excitement, hoping to entice them to vote for him so he can become the village sarpanch.

Sumitra sees Rekha's condition and encourages her to take some refreshments to the visitors so that they can see what is happening in the Loha house.

In order to be seen as a good leader, Loha is forced to mete out justice to his son, Ranvijay. This after Laali steps in and confronts Loha about his leadership style and casts doubt on whether he can indeed be a good leader when he can't control his own son.

Loha's justice ... 20 lashes. Ranvijay gets about four before Rekha steps in and stops it.

The voters return with doubts in their minds about Loha.

Previously, Ranvijay had also physically and mentally abused Nandini. Later Nandini had stood up to him.

In my opinion, the story angle was one of the best among the recent ones, and very rarely seen in Indian dramas, although it is very much a fact of life.

Great acting by Ranvijay (although viewers would be very angry about him beating nice girl Rekha.)

I really don't like to see women being abuse on these soaps. Yes, it is things that happens alot and it should not, but to actually show it being done, it is hurtful.
There have to be a balance, so why don't they show that the women gets stronger and more powerful...why don't the wife turn around and beat the husband...stand up to him and say an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
No one wants to see a woman beat her husband but it is okay to show a husband beating his wife.
As much as it happens today, women are becoming stronger and standing up for their rights..show some of that from time to time.
Women are not weak, but we need to move away from this long ago thing...where the man is supposed to be superior to women...not in this day and age.

Actually, we do see a lot of it in the form of Laali who stands up to the likes of Loha and Ranvijay. Sumitra is standing up to Loha now. Nandini also stood up to her husband ...

Remember, domestic violence (physical and mental) happens all over the world - both in developed and undeveloped countries - it is an age old problem. Even with all laws in place, it continues to happen.

It is good that some real gory details were shown in this story, just to highlight the issue. A superficial story would not have carried the same weight.

I am dreading to see Rekha be abused by Ranvijay, she should have let Loha give him the 20 lashes.

I agree that we need to move away from the higher than might attitude as far as men are considered. Things have improved for women over the years...but still women still face many obstacles especially in certain countries where they have NO rights.
Unfortunately we still live in a man's world where women are paid less and considered the weaker sex,..😡 Women also need to work together and not against each other which is sometimes the worse. But we stay positive and believe women will be in much better positions one day...😆

.In the show the powerful woman all along who has continued to fight for the women has been Laali. She was always aware of the injustice that existed for women and tried her best to overcome these obstacles though she was constantly told that she is a mistress, low class, worthless etc etc....😡😡. The thing with Laali which is a great thing that the show brought out is her ability to fight all the injustices she faced and her persistence to not give up. She has definately been a role model that young girl's can aspire to be. No matter what she never gave up her respect as a woman...for that I admire her....👏👏👏. She is one of the strongest and bravest female characters on the serials we have. 👏

Fortunately for Laali, she had a compassionate, kind and caring husband who never stopped her from doing or saying anything. He gave her a voice by his gentle consideration. It was his love and support that gave her the backbone that she needed to fight injustice.

Unfortunately for Laali, her sister Rekha is not made of the same mould that she is, particularly when her husband is danger man Ranvijay.

Yes having a good husband was important for helping her because he provided her with lots of support, but I also think it has a lot to do with Laali's personality.
She is a fighter and as a result she used that to help her throughout her bad situations. I also think with maturity and experience she grew into a strong woman.
It is a shame that Rekha ended up married to such a jerk and abuse man.
She did not have much power at all.

Mmmm ... hopefully Laali's fighting spirit will help inspire weak, insipid women to stand up for their own rights.
