I am very much pro-choice.

That said, our Indian shows are pretty conservative and will not depict an abortion so easily. Don't worry.

It's not about pro-choice or pro-abortion.If a pregnancy is threatning to a mother's health or life she has the right to take her decision. No one is against her decision. But having sex for fun and then abortion or sucide does not make sence.
Plz answer my question:Say a child is born to a poor family and the parents realised that they can not afford to raise her.So if now they kill the one year old baby will it still be considered a personal choice? As per law it won't be.Because as far as I know according to law you will be punished if you mercilessly beat your child. Is harming a human personal choice irrespective of whether he is related to us or not?

tha tis outrageous thing to say. Nitu wants to keep the baby and let us nnot jump to conclusion as yet we do not know she is keeping baby or not.. She may very well keep the baby.

JONali let us not go off the subject here. Nitu has neither aborted child yet nor she has given birth. So why discuss one year old child here. It is better to stay focused on issue at hand and that is should Notu keep the abbyor not under the circumstances. aborting unborn and killing 1 year old child is totally different thing. Both Nitu and vicky prob was out of mind at the time and never thougth this wil happen in their wildest dream.
If they would have thought and planned then this would not happen. Vicky went out with her without protection and Nitu did even bother to use any means afterwards so she won't get pregnent.
This shows the naiveness or lack of knowledge of our younger generation and I wish kids were told what can happen if you do not exercise precaution before having physical relationsip or take measures afterwards to avoid unwanted preganancy.

I agree...these are examples of what results with the lack of education on protection.

All im gonna say is that you cant be judgmental without being in the situation yourself :)
So i always try to put myself in the other persons shoes before i make up my mind about something

whoa..
to the linux 2.6 person..GET A LIFE !!!neetu must be killed!!! really!!
how much of a sin-free life does one get to lead in order to pass a grand decision of THAT magnitude...
me is totally aware that this is a serial..but this reflects an attitude to life in general....
neetu is a young girl who has made a mistake...the onus was on vicky to take precautions...a man who does not protect a woman..IMHO..is a cad...and that is what vicky is turning out to be...he is shedding off his responsibility to her in the guise of his "problems"..that , in his own words of being a kleptomaniac..so..he is caught..but that does not absolve him from his right to take...as it were ..from neetu..
telling her he loves her is pointless..he needs to stand by her and support her..either in marriage or in the decision to abort..which is , in my opinion, the painful but correct choice, as both of them are in no position to raise a child..vicky has no social support/so job, neetu can only count on simi..and face it..society ostracizes a woman far more than a men anyways
TO JONAKI....do move away from these antiquated views...a life has to be nurtured, no just given birth to..that is what animals do..its the quality that we give to each life that makes us human..
WAKE UP...in more ways than 1..
subaah ho gayi maamu...ab to jaago!!!

This kind of inflammatory language is what makes this debate so contentious. Jonaki, why do you bother to apologize, yet continue to use the same kind of hateful language and post links that promote your agenda (which you do have)? Your apology is empty if you continue to refer to those who have had, plan to have, or would have abortions as being murderous or killers.

I am pro choice because I do not believe parenthood stops at giving birth. I also believe in the autonomy and wisdom of women to make the best decisions they can, without me or anyone else initializing them by telling them what they can or cannot do.

India is not a country where people talk openly about sex. It is very possible that despite being educated, Neetu wouldn't know her options regarding contraception. She lives in a very conservative and gossipy community. At any rate, Neetu is human and humans make mistakes. If you have lived your life without making a single stupid mistake, congratulations. But most of us have. For some of us, the consequence might be monetary debt. For others, it might be a health-related problem. For Neetu, it is an unwanted pregnancy. I'm so tired of this uppity self righteousness and constant passing of judgment. Some of it sounds exactly like the kind of snarky remarks those gossipy neighbors make.

Personally, in a country where millions of children are living in such poor conditions, eating garbage off the street, and forced to live like street rats, I would rather see THOSE children taken care of than adding more to the pile. Our existing children are suffering so much. Some are in orphanages others in slums. And yet there are so many people promoting that we continue breeding like animals and bringing even more poverty-stricken kids into our already overpopulated world. How about we start adopting the kids that already exist? Parenthood is about raising kids, not giving birth to them.

rainabow,
I should thank you for writing this. I agree to everything you have written.
I exactly felt the same thing that you have written in each and every sentence, to the extent of your very 1st statement.
I hesitated in writing anything lest it should create some more contention.
