Indian billionaire Sunjay Kapur, the chairman of Sona Comstar passed away on June 12, 2025 due to a cardiac arrest. His company is valued at Rs 39,000 crore making him one of the richest men in the country. He is assessed to be wealthier than Shah Rukh Khan. It seems he swallowed a bee while playing polo in London. It got stuck in the windpipe and he suffered a cardiac arrest despite efforts to revive him on the ground. Now, everyone is wondering who will inherit the company Sona Comstar founded by Surinder Kapur, his father. It is located in Gurugram.
He is survived by three children, Sameira Kapoor, Kiaan Raj Kapoor and Azarias Sachdev Kapur. Sameira is 18 years of age. However, none of them are equipped enough to take up any role in the firm. It is reported that Sameira is an exceptional student and she might join the business later. As per a report in BollywoodLife, his sisters will now manage the company. Sunjay Kapur has two sisters Superna Kapur Motwane and Mandira Kapur Koirala. The former is an editor of a fashion cum lifestyle magazine while Mandira is the founder of Sona Mandira Pvt Ltd (SMPL), which builds auto components. Sunjay had a legal dispute with his sister over using the ‘Sona’ name.
Sunjay Kapur studied in The Doon School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Business School. The billionaire was a part of the board of The Doon School. Sunjay Kapur’s demise happened on the same day as the Ahmedabad Plane Crash that killed over 242 passengers and 75 resident doctors of a medical college.
