Karisma Kapoor returns to Mumbai after ex-husband Sunjay Kapur's funeral; keeps it sombre with kids & family

Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor has returned to Mumbai with her children, Samaira and Kiaan, after bidding a final farewell to her former husband, Sunjay Kapur. The family was seen exiting the private Mumbai airport late Thursday evening, keeping a low profile after a deeply emotional day. Karisma’s sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan were also present by her side during the entire journey, offering support throughout the somber occasion.

Sunjay Kapur, a well-known businessman and polo enthusiast, passed away on June 12 in England. Initial reports indicate he suffered a heart attack during a polo match, possibly triggered by a rare bee sting. Though unconfirmed officially, this sudden and tragic turn of events has left his loved ones in shock. He was 53.

The funeral was held in New Delhi on June 19. Karisma, along with her children, attended the last rites. Both Samaira and Kiaan were visibly emotional, standing quietly through the rituals. The bond between Sunjay and his children remained strong, even after his separation from Karisma in 2016. Despite their divorce, the former couple had maintained a cordial relationship while co-parenting their children.

Interestingly, while the official funeral statement released by the Kapoor family carried the signatures of Samaira and Kiaan, Karisma’s name was not mentioned. The statement also announced a prayer meeting scheduled for Sunday, June 22, at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi, between 4 to 5 PM. The gathering is expected to include close friends, family members, and well-known personalities from the business and film industry.

Photos from the funeral and airport showed Kareena Kapoor offering silent but steady support to her sister during this emotionally heavy time. Saif Ali Khan was also seen with the family, quietly accompanying them without drawing attention.

Sunjay Kapur is survived by his children, Samaira and Kiaan. His passing has left behind a void for many who knew him closely, both in the corporate circuit and within his family circle.
