Varun Dhawan’s recent film Baby John failed to make an impact at the box office, leaving fans and critics disappointed. Despite its big-budget production and star-studded cast, the film struggled to recover its ?180 crore budget, earning less than ?50 crore domestically. While Varun has remained silent about the film's performance, co-star Rajpal Yadav shared his thoughts on the matter.
Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal called Baby John a well-made film but attributed its failure to being a remake of the Tamil hit Theri. He said, “If this wasn’t a remake, then this would have been the most well-made film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay had already done it, the audience had seen the story. Because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film.”
Baby John was helmed by Kalees and produced by Atlee, who had also directed the original Tamil version. The film starred Varun Dhawan as DCP Satya Verma, with Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav in prominent roles. Despite the hype, the film failed to connect with audiences, leaving its cast and crew disappointed.
Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking. He has always tried to do something different, and his attempts must be appreciated because it’s a big deal to take risks.

Although Baby John did not perform as expected, Rajpal Yadav’s candid remarks reflect the challenges of remakes and the risks actors like Varun Dhawan take to experiment with new genres.
