Varun Dhawan's Baby John a remake of Thalapathy Vijay's Theri? Hunk says, 'That's not what'

Varun Dhawan, Wamiqa Gabbi and Keerthy Suresh’s action movie Baby John is the big X’Mas release of 2025. It is produced by Atlee and Kalees is the director. Of late, we’re hearing many rumours that it is a remake of the Thalapathy Vijay movie, Theri (2016). Recently, Varun Dhawan addressed all those rumours in a press conference. He said it is more like an adaptation than a remake of the original. Dhawan said that whole geography and storyline of Baby John is different from Theri.

He was quoted as saying, “Like you see, a lot of the frames and a lot of the story angles are different. So, if someone comes in expecting a book-by-book remake, they will be disappointed because that’s not what the film is. It’s an adaptation. We’re not running away from that, but it’s more of an adaptation.” This is not the first time a film is making news of this kind of reason. We had read so much about Prabhas’ Salaar being a version of Prashanth Neel’s film Ugramm.

He said that Baby John is presented in a fresh manner, and has a modern take on parenting. Women’s safety is the theme of the movie. At an event, he said that safety of women should be the responsibility of every citizen of a nation. It seems Baby John is about a big case, and is inspired by a real-life event. His character is fresh and more tailored to meet expectations of the North Indian audience.

Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri was directed by Atlee. It also starred Amy Jackson and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The new movie has a cameo by Salman Khan along with Sanya Malhotra and Diljit Dosanjh. In the trailer, we have seen Varun Dhawan as the father of a little daughter. Jackie Shroff is the mean villain of the movie. This is the massiest avatar ever of Varun Dhawan.
