Suniel Shetty, known for his down-to-earth demeanor, shares a heartfelt reflection on his journey into grandfatherhood. In a LinkedIn post, he expresses the profound joy of becoming a grandfather and how simple moments in life bring true happiness.
It’s funny how life works. You spend years chasing things you think will make you happy. The right roles, the right deals, a larger office, more money, the perfect comeback, more recognition. More everything. But you know what I’ve learned? That real joy, mainly comes from the simplest of things

“Becoming a grandfather recently - is a feeling I can’t even describe. It’s a happiness that’s pure and untouched by anything the world can give or take away. I’ve spent decades building and running businesses, making films, trying to create something meaningful. And I’m proud of that. But when I hold my granddaughter, none of that matters. The race to have more kind of fades when you come to that point in life where you realise what truly matters,” he shared.
Suniel Shetty, reflecting on his childhood in Mangalore, cherishes the simplicity of barefoot games in open fields and meals made with love. These memories hold a deeper significance now, as he witnesses his daughter Athiya embrace motherhood and his mother hold her great-granddaughter.
“And seeing my Amma hold her great granddaughter in her arms is the kind of moment that is now a core memory. I’ll never get over the beauty of such moments,” he wrote.
He continued, "Off late, my mind keeps going back to my childhood in Mangalore. The simplicity of those summers. Running around barefoot, playing in the open fields, eating the freshest meals made with nothing but love. The joy came from being with family, from nature, from laughter that didn’t cost a thing. Somewhere along the way, I got caught up in the chase. It happens to all of us at some stage in life. But with age, the more you experience, the clearer it becomes. It’s not about giving up ambition or working hard. It’s about understanding what truly brings you joy. I remain driven. There’s still so much left to achieve. But it’s just one part of me. I operate with far more clarity now. I’m clear now about what’s closest to my heart. I’ve seen the weight of always wanting more. It can steal your peace, bit by bit. You don’t even realise it’s happening until you pause and look around."
Suniel Shetty, known for his successful careers in film and business, acknowledges that the relentless pursuit of "more" can erode one's sense of peace. However, becoming a grandfather has brought him a newfound grounding. He finds joy and contentment in witnessing his daughter Athiya embrace motherhood and cherishing his role as a grandfather.
“It’s like a reminder from life, telling me to keep things simple. To cherish the everyday. To be free from the weight of wanting more. For me, that’s the luxury I’m truly grateful for," he concluded.
Athiya Shetty, daughter of actor Suniel Shetty, and cricketer KL Rahul welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on March 24, 2025. The couple shared the joyous news on Instagram with a heartwarming post featuring two swans and a caption that read, “Blessed with a baby girl,” along with the date and a baby angel emoji.
Suniel Shetty's recent acting credits include a role as Khushi Kapoor's father in Karan Johar's "Naadaniyan." He is currently filming "Welcome to the Jungle," a comedy directed by Ahmed Khan, alongside a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Sanjay Dutt, Disha Patani, and Jacqueline Fernandez. The film is set for release later this year. Shetty is also slated to appear in Priyadarshan's "Hera Pheri 3."
