New Delhi, June 14 (IANS) Veteran actress Farida Jalal, who will make a comeback on the small screen with the forthcoming comedy show 'Ammaji Ki Galli', believes that Indian television has become repetitive with its scripts but has grown technically strong.

'Technically Indian television has covered many milestones but an intelligent script is missing. I don't believe in scripts which Indian television is showing nowadays. One will see the same stereotype vamp, 'saas-bahu' fights. Creativity is missing and that's why I don't recall any series which I am following nowdays,' Farida told IANS.

The actress will play the lead character of Ammaji in the show, to be aired on SAB TV from June 20. This is her lead role on the small screen after a long time.

'Yes, I have been away from the screen for a long time but I don't want to engage myself with a project just for the sake of doing it. I got many offers but I was not impressed with the kind of roles I was offered,' said the 62-year-old actress.

The actress, popularly known as Suhasini, Balraj's wife in 'Dekh Bhai Dekh' in 1993, also appeared in 'Shararat' in 2003 and made a cameo in 'Balika Vadhu' in 2009.

She is known more for her comic roles as compared to serious ones. 'I don't think it was intentionally done. But yes, I am fortunate enough to do such roles at this age. Also I thank god that I am bringing smiles to the faces of Indian audience when they are flooded with emotional serials,' she said.

The actress started her acting career in films as a child artist with the 1960-hit 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand' and essayed varied roles thereafter. She has played on-screen mother to many stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Akshay Kumar.

When asked about her Bollywood projects, she said: 'I am busy shooting for a few films. First is with Suhaib Ilyasi, who is directing '498A'. I am also doing 'Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai', directed by Shakti Samant. The movie will see the acting debut of his son Ashim opposite a new girl,' she added.
