A major on-screen showdown is brewing as Aamir Khan joins Rajinikanth in Coolie for a high-octane 15-minute cameo. The sequence, described by insiders as a pivotal moment in the film, features intense dialogues and stylised action. While Khan’s role is brief, the makers emphasise that it goes beyond a simple guest appearance.
According to a Pinkvilla report, sources from the set shared that Aamir had a dedicated 10-day shooting schedule to complete this crucial climax portion. “Coolie will feature a power-packed action and confrontation sequence between Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan. The two icons will share screen space in a mass-loaded face-off,” a source was quoted as saying. The climax, shot extensively in Rajasthan, is expected to be one of the film’s biggest highlights. This marks a reunion between Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth nearly 30 years after they last shared screen space in the 1995 film Aatank Hi Aatank. Their return together is generating major buzz, especially as their intense face-off is expected to be a turning point in the film.
This also marks Rajinikanth’s first collaboration with director Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his gritty and immersive storytelling. Unlike previous fan theories, Kanagaraj has clarified that Coolie is not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), making it a standalone spectacle. The film also features actors Nagarjuna, Upendra Rao, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir. Pooja Hegde appears in a special dance number.
As anticipation builds, the Hindi version of Coolie has reportedly been renamed Majadoor. The change was necessary as the title Coolie is already associated with three Bollywood films—Amitabh Bachchan’s 1983 classic, and Coolie No. 1 remakes starring Govinda and Varun Dhawan. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is also involved in Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, which picks up after the events of Jailer. While Shah Rukh Khan is no longer part of the project, the sequel still boasts a strong lineup. Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff are expected to return, and casting discussions are ongoing with Telugu stars like Nandamuri Balakrishna and Nagarjuna Akkineni.
With a reported budget of 350 crore, Coolie is slated to hit theatres on August 14, 2025, targeting the Independence Day weekend. Backed by record-breaking pre-release business, the film is poised to be one of Tamil cinema’s biggest releases of the year.
