Sanjay Dutt’s Lung Cancer is on Stage 4; Heartbreaking Sequence of Events of How Dutt Was Informed About His Illness

The news of actor Sanjay Dutt being diagnosed with lung cancer comes as a big blow to his family, friends and fans. Last week, Dutt was rushed to Mumbai’s  Lilavati Hospital after he complained of breathlessness. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and also underwent tests for COVID-19. He tested negative for Coronavirus and was discharged after two days on Monday evening.

Later, Sanju was advised to undergo a CT scan, followed by a PET scan post which it was learnt that he was diagnosed with lung cancer and the hospital officials have confirmed that it is on Stage 4. Right from his hospitalisation to breaking the news to Sanjay Dutt, here are the heartbreaking sequence of events. 

As reported by the Times of India, after Sanjay Dutt complained of breathlessness, he was anxious to know if he had contracted COVID-19 because he had found on his oximeter at home that his oxygen levels had dropped. Dutt was advised to visit the Lilavati Hospital and get tested for COVID-19. He informed the authorities that he had undergone a test and the result was negative but the symptoms were still bothering him. The actor was then accompanied by sister Priya Dutt to the hospital. 

"Upon reaching the hospital, it was detected that air entry was not happening from his right lung. A CT scan further revealed that there was fluid accumulation in his right lung (pleural effusion) accompanied by two lesions, one on each lung. 

Sanjay was told that it could be a bacterial infection, tuberculosis, an adverse effect of strenuous exercise wherein he might have hurt himself, or cancer. The fluid was removed, the volume was as high as 1.5 litres. A 2-day hospitalisation followed. Sanju kept asking a lot of questions especially when he was told that the extracted fluid was about to be sent for detailed diagnosis," a source informed the daily.

Next, Dutt was asked to undergo a PET scan, where it was confirmed that the fluid had cancer cells. The PET scan also confirmed cancer. Soon a counselling session was held where the actor was informed about his illness.

After breaking the sad news to him, Sanjay was sent to an oncologist who gave him a detailed explanation of the Plan Of Action. He was given the choice to get treated abroad and was advised chemotherapy.  “Chemotherapy is the only line of treatment, no surgery can be done at this juncture in this case. It's Stage 4 and depending on the medicines, the treatment (chemotherapy) will be broken down into a certain number of cycles” the source added.

Reportedly, Sanjay Dutt will be flying to either the US or Singapore for his treatment.
